SAP EPM meets my expectations with its nice to have features

What do you like best?

SAP EPM has made it very easy to access all the important information and deep insights for the business areas from various sources and has been presented beautifully by using graphical interface formats. It is very flexible to use and the upgrades are easily installable as there is very minimal downtime required for server maintenance for patches installation.

Deriving information from market competitors has helped in growing the business better and assists in making quick decisions for growth of the company. Its features include Strategic management and planning, solution integrations and disclosure management.

What do you dislike?

There is a scope of improvement in the data entry as it is not fully automated yet and for moving the data from our legacy system to SAP EPM requires a lot of effort. Also since it has been backed by large organization like SAP, the cost of the product is pretty high.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Surely if you have been using SAP tools beforehand, then this SAP EPM tool is a pretty handy one and doesn’t need much guidance as it is self-explanatory.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SAP EPM has been of great help with its capability to load location wise data within a certain region and then integrating it from various sources. It also offers to create dashboards for better management and quickly view the trends and analyze them.

10 years & counting administering SAP-BPC

What do you like best?

Extremely easy to maintain 16 dimensions across 5 models.

The report writer is very user friendly allowing users to create adhoc reports for their own analysis.

What do you dislike?

The security module for user ID, task and data access profiles is somewhat cumbersome with 'data access profiles' being the most tedious to setup.

Populating the Ownership model for new legal entities is also tedious as 5 entity hierarchies.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

A full consolidation of monthly actual data in under 10 minutes. Consolidated financial statements are issued on work day 10 after closing the general ledgers on work day 5.

What Corporate Performance Management (CPM) solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

EPM/BPC - Old school budget and planning

What do you like best?

The potential exists for very high performance - for a price. The product is extremely flexible. The upgrade from version 7.5 to version 10 was like night and day. The product appears to be under active development. Comparable to Oracle Hyperion Planning, but integrates very thoroughly with SAP Business Warehouse and makes exceptional use of HANA. If you are already using SAP products, this is a slam dunk.

What do you dislike?

EXPENSIVE!!! And they push HANA down your throat. If you aren't using the full SAP ecosystem, the support is lacking. We purchased the product before SAP bought it and are still running it, but since we aren't running all the other SAP products, we don't get the support that we might want for what we are paying. Finally the technology is old-school compared with online products such as Tidemark or Adaptive Planning.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you aren't using the full SAP ERP and business warehouse, think really carefully. This product is expensive but it works best in that ecosystem.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This product supports position level and in depth budgeting for the largest public university in the country, as well as supporting analysis year-round for the budget office.

SAP BPC is a powerful tool but needs deep development to be used efficiently

What do you like best?

Very versatile and allows any level of granularity you desire to implement. The UI is Microsoft Excel so users feel comfortable and confident beginning to use it.

What do you dislike?

The devil is in the details. Every implementation is custom and the quality of your final product will be directly related to the quality of your implementation project. Pick your partners carefully, their shortcomings may haunt you for a long time. Devote the right resources and GET EXECUTIVE LEVEL SPONSORSHIP!! When reading the feature questions in any review remember the implementation affects all of them. BPC itself is quite powerful and stable, Implementations are often the cause of dissatisfaction.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use BPC for financial consolidations of a global company, external reporting and internal management reporting. We have a repository for our plans / forecasts to enable reporting.

Useful but Archaic

What do you like best?

The best part about SAP EPM is the potential for reports users should be able to run from the system. Once the data is entered into the system, the reports have the potential to be manipulated in a variety of ways to best suit the user.

What do you dislike?

From my experience, the biggest downside of this application is how data needs to be entered. I feel that the process is a largely manual one, and that the system overall lacks the ability of automation (at least at the onset of using the system). I also have run into a number of issues with the functionality of the system (i.e. when entering percentages, the percent signs will not appear as they are supposed to.)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our main business problem that we are trying to diminish is to create an easier process of recording employee hours and running client profitability based on the Direct Labor expenses (i.e. the amount of time an employee is spending on a client vs. how much revenue the client is actually bringing in).

Lots of functions and capabilities of use

What do you like best?

Lots of functions and capabilities to use for various users within the organization.

What do you dislike?

With the vast amount of user functions and capabilities, the screens can get overwhelming.

Recommendations to others considering the product

There are lots of functions available within the SAP program, and can be fully integrated with each other. I would recommend the user interface to be more user friendly as there are lots of functions that can be overwhelming to a first time new user.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The amount of data sharing capabilities have increased so that more users can see the data entered.
