Analyze data quickly and share insights easily with data visualization for your desktop. SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is the fastest, most engaging way to get answers from your data
SAP Lumira capability of cleansing data and working with large amounts of data to have an real-time analysis of what's going on in business with and enjoyable UI, that is extendable thanks to their open source tools to create new visualization extensions makes SAP Lumira an favorite to explore your enterprise information. Working in projects with SAP Lumira helped me to solve old issues with other tools that didn’t allowed me to create new measures or make more precise filter on my data.
There are a few things to dislike about it, I would have liked that it worked with google maps by default, also as I’m used to create dynamic text based on user selection when I make reports in other tools I would like to it to be possible in future releases.
If you're looking for a software easy to use that allows you to explore your data and report your insights of it with an friendly UI this one is for you
Replacing old dashboards and also taking advantage of the new resources of SAP Lumira that allows me to create simple or complex stories coming from any data source and allowing me to create new calculated measures and dimensions without having to make any modification to the original source and also with an UI that makes the final users feel more comfortable with the data they are manipulating has been one of the best results I’ve had using this software
The best thing about SAP BusinessObjects Lumira tool is that it is very easy to use. It's self service BI capabilities are just awesome. To my experience, I just learned the entire tool within few days and that is what makes it different from any other similar products available in the market.
The only thing which i did not like about SAP BusinessObjects Lumira tool is the limitations related to standard graph and charts available. Some times we need to take technical help to implement custom graphs and chart. This should be improved and functional users can drag and drop charts or plug in to use new charts and graphs.
If the business need is self service BI. I will 100% recommend SAP Lumira.
Users will love to work in SAP Lumira for their daily and meeting requirements of reports.
This product has reduced the cost of ad hoc reporting for our client. And due to better visual representation user acceptance has been improved.
As an ABAP consultant, what I like best is that it is easy to create dashboards without coding. The data bindings are very much easy to implement and the data needed is also easy to set-up.
As of now, I don't see any major part of the package being not so useful to me.
I would like to recommend the usage of SAP Lumira to my managers so that he could see the at a glance the information he needs to see when starting a day. It could be very useful to him since the data is already processed and ready to consumed. He can focused more on the other task he needs to accomplish. It could also save him time in decision making.
It could also be recommended to the finance department since they deal heavily with a lot of numbers. It could be useful if the budget, expenses and the income of the company are being presented in a way that everybody would understand.
Currently, I'm not doing any problems but I do realized a lot of benefits in using Lumira. It is very easy to used. Training costs would be very minimum yet the possibilities of returns are great. It can provide real-time knowledge in a very easy-to-consumed formats such as graphs, probabilities and etc. It is very useful to the Decision Makers of the company. It can also see the data that are not consistent with the others,
This is a great program to do initial visualization and analysis. Its simple enough that almost anyone can use it but able to tease out some of the more detailed complexities of a dataset. It should cover all but the most complicated business scenarios and it has the advantage of close integration with SAP data sources. Certainly worth a look by anyone considering a new visualization option.
Seems a bit limited in some of the options available. I'd like to see more geographic options. It also is a bit slow on my machine which is surprising considering that it is an i7 with 24GB memory and running off an SSD. It was running under a VM emulation but that should only impact it some 5% at most. However, other similar products are a bit slow as well.
This is a good start for self-service analytics. It does seem to require a lot of memory, so run it on a system with at least 8GB or 16GB would be better.
This was used to do an initial data exploration for a classroom/seminar.
I like very much interested on Data visualization and how to show the raw data into visualization with easy analysis for the business users and they can Improve business direct/indirectly and this tool like as spoon feeding for who are learning dedication I this tool. this tool i have worked in my current project.
I was very much tried to build user prompts in the SAP Lumira but I cant. I have tried many ways to build user prompts and copy the paste & duplicate is not available in story board room.
I created many reports in Data visualization and I have show the forecasting where the business low/high.
I think in SAP LUMIRA tool we can improve UI and add some features easy to catch the developers to build the reports
Easy to pick up and use immediately with minimal training required whatsoever. Lumira is much simpler than Tableau, which is an advantage for quick value, and minimal training requirements.
If Lumira were available for Mac OS, it could attract a larger following, especially among designers, writers, consultants, developers etc who typically are using Macbooks.
#1 choice for SAP & SAP BusinessObjects customers. If you already have invested in Universes, Data Warehouse, BW, etc. then save yourself time and headache, and potential data governance nightmare from choosing any other DV vendor.
For net new customers, be sure to evaluate the full breadth of your requirements, not just DV, but also Data Governance, Metadata management, data quality & integration.
80% of a typical analytics project is spent on Data Integration, and that is where SAP is continuing to invest, and already has market leading ETL, Data Quality & Management.
In addition, as part of the SAP BI Edge bundle, Lumira is extremley price competitive and better bang for the buck than other DV vendors, especially if you require Data Integration, management, reporting, etc. All of this is included in BI Edge.
Super easy to download and analyze excel data sets. Additional configuration is required in order to connect to an SAP Universe for example.
1. Easy to use interface of SAP Lumira is a big plus.
2. Tools to alter data are appropriately positioned in toolbar.
3. Overview of data in PREPARE tab gives very good overview of the data.
4.Easy to create detailed overview and slides for presentation.
5. Dashboards can be easily created and are simple yet attractive.
1. Creating custom measure is a bit time consuming.
2. Sometimes automatically created measures by SAP Lumira are not sufficient( but very rare).
SAP Lumira is easy to use tool, packed full of amazing and easy to use features. If you are looking for a tool to do the analysis of raw data for you in an easy way, I think Lumira is then the best product for you. Automatic selection of measures and dimensions by lumira does half of the work. You can also edit and refine your data easily.
Solved the problem for overview of sales data which is not very easy to get from the raw excel data.
1. Easy comparisons and analysis from the graph.
2. Quicker decisions.
The great features within the tool.
1. Data Preparation once you import into the tool l we can do some basic cleansing combine the data sets, like append merge the data sets
2. Creation of the dashboard is very easy and intuitive
3. Composing the a great clides also very easy we can start with predefined templates or we can make our own
4. Sharing features like publishing to team, BI platform and before publishing giving rights like controlling whether the receiver is only to view or edit to collaborate etc
I do not see any dislikes, but the version of software i have installed on my PC some time stuck when I read the data from excel spreadsheets even its like 20 rows, but I believe that's something else causing it, not the problem with the product itself.
Better dashboard and virtualization reporting tool
It is very easy to train end user, who do not have IT background or SQL knowledge, this tool will take care of everything.
- Predictive Analysis (best part of Lumira)
- Cost Effective
- Easy to use in terms of configuration, As add-on, good connectivity with various DS
- Implementation time is also very less as compared to SAP dashboard
- It is very easy to learn, you can learn lumira just by viewing lumira tutorial on youtube, you don't have to be technically very strong if your good at functional side than it is your cup of tea
- Visualization in the form of story ( To get complete insight of a KPI)
- Auto scheduling of story
- You get 30 days trial version, So before making the purchase you can get an idea whether it is suitable for your need or not
- More economical tools are available in the market such as Microsoft Power BI, Sisence which offer good and in-depth data visualization as good as Lumira
- Embedding your visualization on a website with real time data is not that easy
- Biggest dislike about Lumira is that we can download the complete story in the interactive PDF form that is available in SAP Dashboard
- You need Lumira rich client to view the interactive story if you are having Lumira enterprise
- Easy to install
- Has good connective with all most all types of data source, if you are having SAP BW, SAP BO and it will be very easy to create visualization
- Less technical person can also use Lumira and make suitable changes if required
- Cost is also low with SAP brand
- You can create Meta data with in lumira and use the same for your visualization
- Presenting business data in more interactive way and easy to understand for a non technical person
- You can view data in different dimension which help you to identify your week strategies

I really like that SAP Business Objects Lumira is a straight forward software that lets you create visualizations that are easy to interpret and yet can have a big impact. Prior to acquiring this software we had a much more difficult time making certain strategic decisions because it was difficult to convey some of the figures and impact that those decisions would have, but now this has greatly improved. The users are also happy that the program is fairly intuitive and easy to use.
SAP Business Objects Lumira does not have all the functionality that some of the other visualizations programs have, which allow you to make more edits, but for the needs of our company this software is perfect as is. In the future if we decide that we need a more complicated solution then we will evaluate other options at that time.
Try to trial this software before purchasing to make sure that it meets your specific needs and that the users are comfortable with the software. If you have issues using it, or spend too much time trying to get it to do something that is difficult to do with this software, then you might be better off finding a different software to work with.
SAP Business Objects Lumira allows us to create impactful visualizations that we use in reports and presentations. Having SAP BusinessObjects Lumira has helped us make better decisions because it is now simpler to convey and understand data.
Thumbs up for performance and features. Easily recognized from the moment we installed the tool. Installation process is very easy, and also the access for trial, even the support from SAP. After we did download, we started to receive tips about how to improve our fist experience with the tool. Another important thing to recognize is the advanced analytics models.
For while, that is no concerns about the software. Our complains is about how user friendly is this software considering those persons how never had a chance to use a Business Intelligence Tools. The main importance to clarify details as how to connect to data warehouse or to data mining, is very important for the whole process of implementation. Our team, as usual, have a very nice first contact with the tool, but sometime, we realized some difficulties about the potencial of the tool when considered big datas.
Consider how important is to build new dashboards aligned with the most important key performance indicators. It is highly recommend to use the main principles of Business Intelligence as a science to better extract all the potencial.
Our company realized how competitive we can be with the analytical tool as we recognized at SAP Lumira. It foments the way we starts to se informations, not data. Improve is the main word, that better defines our delightful business analytics moment. Identify main indicators and make it clear for the board to he company was a nice achievement for our IT members.
I did a POC on SAP Lumira and its capabilities. Lumira is a perfect tool for the end-users as it is easy to use and the built-in functions can manipulate data as well. Lumira has a lot in store for the developers as well. It is a power-packed tool.
I faced some problems while using geographic dimensions brought in from Hadoop platform. Also, I miss some built-in functions which could help me better prepare my data.
One of the major advantages of SAP BO Lumira is that the server edition integrates perfectly with SAP BO Business Intelligence Platform.
I am discovering Lumira's capabilities by doing a case study to visualize the data about employee satisfaction obtained from Hadoop platform. It integrates easily with Hadoop and performs well on large volume of data. It is a powerful tool.
I can really say that SAP Lumira gives us analytics to convey and share insights with minimal time and effort. SAP Lumira is intuitive, learning how to use them takes a few whiles only. Using the vizualization in SAP Lumira, even the most complex strategy might become easily-understandable if only it's presented in a transparent way. And most importantly with SAP Lumira, business users can create predefined or custom queries and reports using a self-service approach, so there is no need for IT to do that.
Lack of data and vizualization editing functionality comparing it with SAP Dashboard or Design Studio. Different formula syntax comparing it with WebI.
I have realized that SAP Lumira can help to maximize business knowledge with big-picture insights and granular details. Access and acquire data without any scripting. Visualize any amount of data.
The ease of use of SAP Lumira and flexibility of Lumira make it easy for my managers to use. I also love that I can merge data from many different sources to get a full understanding of my data.
refreshing data with a direct sql connection takes way too long, however exporting it to a csv file is extremely fast
download and play with it to see what it can do
We can easily see our Product data and trend lines associated with sales increases/decreases and return trends. We also see our marketing trends and sales trends associated with the data. I can look at the data at a very detailed level (individual product lines) or at a higher level (order level) to look at sales and marketing trends.
i appreciate the nice self-service capabilities, thanks to really easy handling of the tool
also the possibility to limit the access to prepare tab - f.e. some end users should be able to change just visualizations and stories, not the data set
apart of many smaller disadvantages and the standard slow start of the desktop client
i dont like that Lumira doesnt have the calculation capabilities which f.e. webi had
another limiting thing is that Lumira desktop client 1.31 takes SAP connection details from saplogon. ini and not from the SAP XML files...
wait for more advanced version...
i would say that the main advantage is the self-service capability
Simple interface. Easy to build stories.
Runs slower than molasses!!! Crashes my system! Doesn't work well in our environment. As compared to Tableau, Lumira is lacking. It's a shame that we are set up for Lumira but can't use it. It is so slow and buggy that I can't get it to work. I assume it is due to laptop resources. Can't justify a Lumira dedicated server if I can't get it to work locally.
I am responsible for big data analysis of all QA metric. We have millions of records in warranty, sales, and service that need to be married and analyzed.
With SAP Lumira it is easy to download and install the application.
You can build your first dashboard in minutes.
It even took minutes to connect to the HANA system as a data source.
The information and setup needed to connect to Lumira server versions does require work from technical teams. Lumira configuration, SSL, HTTPS setting to be completed before you have the Desktop version work with the server versions. but even this is quickly.
Our customers are using the Lumira tool set for data exploration by business users. The intent is to explore the data and then formalize requirements for the more "enterprise reporting tools" at a lower cost.
We are also using it create dashboards on the fly from the data in SAP HANA.
Ease of use, speed, visuals' trasnformations
Sort on date attributes is out of order. For example, a sort on month would go as: 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 8, 9). This
is a bog problem that has been around since the beginning, and nobody seems to be taking a note.
Some basic calculations missing like the average, while some I have no use for are supported like moving average.
P.S. About this survey: I think it's too limiting, so I can't choose my real profession (professor) and relationship with vendor (using it
as for deming in teaching).
I just used SAP Lumira on a Global Bike case for teaching (the input is an Excel file with a dozen of cilumns and over 36000 rows.
Lumira is a great fit for my organization because we really need governance and integration with our enterprise business intelligence platform. I can make the same content my users have access to in other reporting tools in a sexy new tool.
The only real issue with Lumira is that if someone is already used to another visualization tool they don't want to switch (which is really less about Lumira coming up short than it is about people avoiding change).
You should definitely try it if your'e looking for a viz tool, especially if you've already got BusinessObjects. You can't bet the price.
We do a lot with the tool currently in our clinical performance improvement area, so it really maps directly to patient care.
The tool is very easy to use and it has very good visualisations.
I have been working in SAP Business Objects from quite some time now and I felt their can be some improvements in the tool like we could use some sql functions also in the tool so that it can be used by the developers, as I felt the tools is more likely for end users and not for developers. Also while using filters I felt their should be a button where we can remove the filters because sometimes its very hard to think how to remove the applied filter condition.
Creation of Infographics is very easy and clients just like them.
I have just done POC on Lumira and I felt the visualisations are really good.
Sap Lumira is one of the bes programs that i used to manage data. It bring a lot of posibilities of views that can be interpretated in different ways. Also is easy to use, has a free demo and has a friendly UI. All the graphics tht u can made are very awesome and it works in real time so you cant have to wait a lot of time to see the results.
One of the things that people dislike of programs is the pay to use, i think if the program was free it could be have more like reviews and put content that you need pay o use, not all the program. This program is very complete, so there are a few thinks that u can be better for us.
please guys you can bring free this software and put some content pay to use, is more benefical to the users and for you.
The principal Business problems that i solved was problems for my carrer. I'm computer engineer and i think this program help me a lot for passs my subjets. The benefits that i realized was a lot that i cant write. In BI, Data mining, etc. this programs helps a lot to solve the problems.
Th excellent data analytic and reporting Tool boxed with all data visualization features when our data is coming from SAP BI, Hana and when data coming from various other applications where sources like SQL e.t.c. It gave all in one solution to analyze and produce decision making reports.
With SAP Lumira We extracted the reports coming form various in house solutions where data is from SQL,SAP HANA and Even excel modified data.
Certain features of Lumira was so impressing beacuse of its speed in processing the data and dynamic data visualization when data is altered.
Certail restriction when connected to direct HANA Dataset
Best reporting tool for DATA source from Various platform Especially from SAP
To produce and visualize decision making reports in organisation
The first time I was exposed to Lumira was during a data analysis workshop. I was very impressed by the powerful visualization. Basically, it is easy to use and you can create your own story. Then I used it in my class, after playing ERPsim game, I demo how to use it with some basic features, then ask students to analyze their ERPsim performance and create illustrative dashboard by themselves. They all feel positive toward this software in terms of ease of use and power.
Overall, I am pretty satisfied with it. However, it seems a little inconvenient when you want to modify a dashboard, even just change a little bit, you need to connect the server from very begging.
I use it for teaching. And my students use it for analyzing their own ERPsim data. It help both of us for teaching and learning. My students start to show interests on data analysis and motivated to explore data.
Very easy to learn. I used the training videos on saplumira.com to get started and within 2 hours I was able to create a basic report (story).
I like that it is simple and the end users love the visualizations because they are beautiful.
We have previously invested in a Microsoft OLAP solution. It would be nice to be able to leverage this from Lumira. At the moment connections to a Microsoft cube are not supported.
Try it out. It is very easy to use.
The need for advanced users to perform adhoc analysis (and data discovery).
The biggest benefit is they can use the same universe that is used for the enterprise reports so the data is trusted.
Also, giving advanced end users such a tool frees up the IT department / technical resources as users have the power to source their own data and create their own user stories.
- Continuous updates with significant improvements to the tool
- Storyboarding is more intuitive compared to Tableau
- Slow start up times.
- other visualization tools have more capabilities to fine tune dashboard designs, but SAP is catching up quickly
- We had a ticket open with SAP for more than 3 months with no clear indication why Lumira crashed all the time or took about 5 minutes boot up time - finally we determined that the problem was on our side with our McAfee antivirus setup but more early guidance would have been great since this had a big impact on our go live timeline where we ultimately descoped it from the first BI release. I assume this is an issue many customers are facing, but it felt like we were uncovering this issue for the first time when we worked with SAP support (they did put a lot of effort in to help). This could have been fast tracked...
- Lumira is tied into SAPs roadmap
- Security setup for business object applies to Lumira also - no dual maintenance required
- BI self service
- prototyping of dashboards
Data acquisition - quick and painless:
- Importing data source - pipe-delimited file 531MB, 1.3M rows, 80 columns wide took approx 8 mins.
- Acquired second dataset (comparable size) ~ 5min.
- Allows select Excel, delimited, HANA, SQL, Oracle, column Date, number format, etc.
- Automatically determines measures, dimensions in imported data
- Can append or merge two or more datasets. Can work with data sets separately. Merging two large datasets (mentined above) took about 5 mins
- Charts can be edited in Compose room
- Can create continuous scrolling infographics if presentation is too wide
- After deleting multiple columns from data source not used in visualizations I didn't have to recreate visualizations
- After filtering out records in feeding dataset all visualizations remained intact, however compositions needed to be changed
- Can apply different filters to diff visualizations, however compositions needed to be changed
- Can create...
- Poor formula selection in create custom measure window, eg Concatenate allows two values only. To Concat multiple I had to do nested Concat
- Hierarchies do not allow custom Measures
- Data Labels on Charts are not Editable - can create labels clutter in chart body - this is done in Compose room
- No option to zoom in Visualization room
- Exporting to Excel does not create extra tabs if data set is larger than 1M rows
Download a free trial, test it functionality and compare whether it meets your expectations. Compare it to other BI and data visualization tool competition has to offer.
Data visualizatin and BI analytics for finance in Healthcare industry. Lumira stories can be created easily and visually are very appealing, with some limitations (see dislike section)
Now Lumira supports Key Figure hierarchies.
I wasted so much time loading Latitude/Longitude values for our facilities. Lumira does not load negative longitudes. they load as ZERO. Bex, WEBI and RSRT reports the negative longitude. But Lumira loads zeros. Only when I change them to positive, the values loaded and within Lumira I make them negative.
The charts are better, but I will look for better plug ins that allow me to edit (put a rule) to the legends. I am using a Profit center hierarchy and the legend accumulates the level values: Level 0 / Level 1 / Level 2 ... so by the time that I am in level 3, I can not read the text in thee graphic.
I am okay with the Maps objects, but I will try other plug ins.
Also, a little disappointed with the "testing" phase. During "Visualize" I can play with the amps and they refresh well... In the Compose, all objects are integrated... but then clicking on the maps or graphics, they do not allow me to drill down. Maybe because it si the "Compose" mode. So, where can I fully test...
I think Microsoft Query viewer is much powerful than Lumira, the final product looks nicer (That is the strong of Microsoft). MS has problems with hierarchies, but I am willing to flat the hierarchies and use MS instead of Lumira.
Dashboard with mapping functionality. there is so much potential. We want to catch the top management level instead of the analysis level.
I like that I can finally get all of the spreadsheets and data sources and visualize the data. In the past this was impossible for me to do. I would get the spreadsheets and my stomach would instantly fall. Going through the data manually was a headache. But wit Lumina I am able to see the data visually. After the first time of seeing the charts I actually keyed in on an issue which had gone hidden in numbers for months.
There sis a bit of a learning curve to using it. But once I dedicated a few days over a long weekend to delve into the product it became a lot easier to work with.
Give it a try the trial is easy to install and use.
I am solving issues with productivity. I know that my department is effective but I cannot tell for sure. The spreadsheets had the data in them I just needed a tool to help me make sense of it all. And then tell the story.
I think the UI looks really cool. Connection to different servers is quite easy.Drag and drop features are really awesome. the analyical tools provided are really useful and all the charts give us some different information and so the experience of using lumira was quite good.
I think some seamaless movement should be provided to the user when he is trying to load data from different servers. I found that feature to be little cumbersome as well as confusing for the user. You have to work on the speed of the analytical tools and it takes a lot of time to process requests
I think it is a good tool for data visualization and business intelligence purpose
I was trying to simulate an ERP game and i found Lumira reports to be very useful and i was able to outperform other teams due to lumira reports generated by me.
Manage massive amount of data. As we use a good amount of data, it's nice to have a software that is able to manage it, use it and filter it.
It should offer more documentation about the software itself, how it works, some modeling of the software, its composition in term of structure.
keep up the good work !
It has become our main software to generate visualizations and BI documents for our meetings. We use this software to generate some good exercises for our students but also to use our student database for BI presentation and analysis.
In Lumira , to display data of country wise hierarchy is very good I l ike the concept of showing the data in drill down by creating hierarchy like country-state-city and selection of data even if I choose whole data from database I can easily choose in the prieview section which column you want with lots of filter option at different level and input controls.
I would love to share my .lums report in cloud , even I did it in past now the feature is unabled don't know why,
Sahring your data in BI Workspace is bit messy it can't connect properly by entering the desired credentials .
I would Consider sap Lumira to my friends because its features are very good ease of use with setup to creation of reports.
Some of the financial data I am able to solve or show using lumira , along with some pharmaceutical data with different features.
SAP Lumira manages to strike a balance between overwhelming functionality for the typical super user/analyst likely to use it as a self-reporting tool, while still providing the data manipulation, merging, metric defining, and strong visuals expected by the same set of users. Most importantly, it integrates with SAP universes allowing centralized governance of organization wide metric standards. The end user can still manipulate measures and dimensions as needed, especially when integrating third party information, but in addition to, not instead of, the work already invested in designing and centralizing organization-wide universes.
The flexibility in sharing Lumira output lags behind its competitors such as Tableau. Although one can technically leverage online presentations via BI Launchpad, the options to consume the data with minimal resources are somewhat limited beyond generating a pdf, from the end user's perspective.
As is the case with other SAP business intelligence products, there's a right place for it in the enterprise's reporting platform. It cannot replace a well thought out and implemented data governance process nor can it take the place of a well-designed data warehouse and universes, but it will encourage super users to build unto the organization's framework and liberate them from technical constraints in consuming their data and designing their own highly-visual presentations.
We are looking to close the gap for those high analytics needs end users for whom there wasn't a tool which could both leverage all the information available in the organizational data warehouse, via the SAP platform, and also meet the ad-hoc reporting needs with sophisticated visual presentations commonly accomplished with tools like Tableau. A big benefit for us is that instead of introducing yet another vendor and additional expenses and maintenance for tools from other parties, we could meet the user's needs while continuing to leverage our investment in a centralized platform, the SAP BI 4 platform, and maintain the integrity of our data governance process.
I love how you can easily view multiple charts and graphs that make data analytics easier. We were able to see real-time data and be able to make business decisions based on our progress.
Some of the graphs and charts require a lot of steps, and a manual or guide is required. Some of the graphs require a lot of steps to process. Maybe making the process to create data graphs easier would make the product better.
This product is very useful for visualization of the company's progress and its fairly easy to use! My group and I used SAP Lumira to keep track of our company's sales and our inventory supplies.
I was trying to analyze my progress on the ERP simulation game. My group and I were running an ERP Simulation and were a Muesli Manufacturing Company. We had to predict demand, order raw materials, produce finished goods, control marketing expense, and be able to make a profit for the company all at the same time. This product was extremely useful for keeping track of our sales and inventory. It allowed us to make managerial decisions for our company using the graphing features. SAP Lumira is pretty easy to use and that allowed us to get a better understanding of our simulation and how to use to the product as well. I would definitely like to use this product in the future for other business needs.
The SAP Lumira program is probably one of the best data analysis tools out there. I just recently started using the product so I'm still playing around with it. However, the amount of features that it contains are amazing and it provides multiple visual analysis tools to help with data. In addition, it is easy to navigate and control. I love that you can save your progress and return back to it. The dashboard feature is probably one of my favorites as well. Love that it allows to put several different visuals on one page to look at it as a whole.
One thing that I disliked about it is that it is often hard to use. If you do not go through training, you probably would have a really hard time using it. When I first started off using it, I was really frustrated with it and it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to exactly use it.
I would recommend spending some time exploring all the features of it. It will take some time but it is worth it because there might be something that you are doing but it might take you a really long time to do it however chances are theres probably an easier way to do it.
One of the things that I used it for was forecasting and cost analysis. It also helped with seeing sales on a quarterly basis. One of the key benefits of it is how comprehensive the visuals are and how easy they are to read. In addition, being able to customize it to my needs.
Easy to use and connect to different data sources
Very easy to do Adhoc Analysis
Targeted to all kind of users
Visualizations are Great
You can a great stories with ease.
Will not fit to screen in most of the cases
Filters appear not so great
End users always have confusion between the terms Lumira Cloud, Lumira Server, Lumira Desktop, Lumira BIP, Lumira Server for Teams
End users face confusion how to share the Story Boards.
No Bullet Chart.
Yes it is a easy tool and can be used for Adhoc Analysis. When a end user wants to analyse the data quickly I refer this tool.
When I create any HANA view< I check with Lumira its functionality and also shows the customer how the KPI are looking.
Before developing Design Studio Dashboard I create mock up in Lumira and show it to Customer.
The SAP Lumira is easy to install and learn. When I downloaded it and installed it I got 30 days trial version.
The connection with SAP BW system which I tried was simple to use I installed a plugin and then I could access BE queries and infoareas.
Creating different charts and diagrams are easy and finally preparing story board and exporting it to pdf was good.
There should be more charts availabme. The overall tool should give more tool box visible on design area also there should be flooring tool box options available.
Connections to other system takes much time at least in my case. Charts are grouped with drop downs which creates confusion for user that where are the other charts? Make more free add-ins available for users it will add more value to end customer.
Use this product as stand alone using excel as database it's quick and can create story boards in minutes.
1. Slow connection speed with BW system
2. Lumira 1.30 takes lot of time to load very slow starting
3. GUI needs to be more user friendly.
The ease of use and quick charts and graph making functionality, look and feel and freshness of SAP BusinessObjects Lumira.
wide number of options available for naive users.
nothing to dislike.
excellent and handy tool
Ease of use and can solve business problems by looking at charts and truly converts raw data into use follow so that we can take the best decisions for our customers and drive profit margins to get ahead of competition.
I am try to find pout which of products in different market segments are doing well and which are not:
I can see that, product type, Coffee yields the maximum profit of $ 53,130 in Major market size and Herbal Tea yields the maximum profit of $34,229 in Small market size.
SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is simply the best tool I can work with because it has a visually pleasing, exciting interface, is simple to know and operate, and easy to multiply knowledge fully integrated into all the programmed functions and each module is easier to work with , Share reports really facilitating our decision making and the smoothly of all your tasks being that I trust and recommend SAP BusinessObjects Lumira.
Yes, there are disadvantages like:
- It is necessary to foresee the addition of fields to solve unexpected situations such as the regulatory modifiers that appear without warning and are of force majeure, tax as tax changes of government and I believe that already has these forecasts but not according to the most diverse scenarios Such as senators of crisis and recession mainly in emerging markets or even in the most diverse global markets.
SAP Business Objects Lumira has helped us do much better and I commend its acquisition to those who need tools that promote integration across the most diverse business segments.
Integration, ability to respond quickly to various types of demands that come from various departments ie everything has been resolved satisfactorily and in quick time.
Great for business users not wanting to rely on IT for report creation
Ad-hoc analysis that’s easily shared across users
Story boards can be published to HANA cloud platform and BI Platform.
Limited layout possibilities via storyboards
Limited dashboard interactivity
Limited cross-component interaction
Lacks input controls for what-if analysis
Play around with the tool first to really understand the capabilities and/or limitations of Lumira.
Benefits I've realized:
Visualized data with Interactive user experience.
Discovered trends, outliers and areas of interest in your business
Adapted to business scenarios by combining, manipulating, and enriching data.
Told stories with self-service visualizations and analytics.
Lumira's strengths lie in its simplicity and ease of use. It is a terrific tool to teach core BI concepts - dimensional modelling (facts and dimensions) and visualization techniques. My experience is that students react very favourably to the tool. I have used the product now for 5 projects where senior Information Systems students use Lumira (connected to a relational DB) to construct functioning BI prototypes for clients. Clients also react very favourably to Lumira.
The product is evolving quickly, and some features that I had been relying on (e.g., Lumira Cloud) have been phased out after having been available for only a short time. The available visualizations have been somewhat limited, but are getting better (e.g., cross tab reports introduced within the last year).
Needs to be employed for right 'use cases' - rapid prototyping, end user self service, etc.
As I mentioned, I use Lumira in the classroom to demonstrate key concepts. On projects, we have addressed problems, for example, in Healthcare (resource utilization) and Education (recruiting, advancement and retention analysis)
Lumira is very intuitive and easy to use and the Lumira server makes it very easy to share my Lumira creations with my work colleagues
Some of the capabilities of Lumira are limited, especially vs. competitor products such as Tableau. For example, simple things like taking the medians of an aggregated data set, are not possible in Lumira whereas they are a piece of cake in Tableau.
I think Lumira is a good start and I am sure it will get better. Given it's integration with the rest of SAP's portfolio, I think it will ultimately be a very powerful tool.
Lumira has allowed us to easily visualize and explore an extremely large data set. Whereas before there was not way to easily explore the data set to examine different business scenarios, now it is a piece of cake. This has allowed us to focus on which areas of our business process to define as we can now track the variability easier.
I like price, visualizations for charts and graphs, extensions. Compose and Share tabs show great potential. There also some neat visualization types like tag cloud and numeric point that make the visualizations more interesting that just a data crunching tool.
Formatting data is not intuitive in terms of switching between count, average, sum, and other basic manipulations after doing it in another popular BI tool. While there are presentation and sharing features, they are very limited.
Not as intuitive as Tableau but has better extension capabilities.
I needed to quickly visualize several data sets for presentation. I was able to visualize them and take screen shots to share them for presentation.
I like the range of visualisations available and the principle, where you build a dashboard and then simply reuse it. One of the major advantages is also importing multiple different datasets and connecting them later using relations. Also, I love the possibility to make and use multiple dashboards and simple export for the executives.
I dislike quite large learning curve for advanced features. Also, I lack plugins, as they mostly require some programming and SQL knowlede.
SAP Lumira is a great solution for monitoring the same objectives over time, however I don't find it very useful for one-time analysis.
We are monitoring our internal working hours, in relation to weather, season and number of customers. We can monitor and predict workload in advance and take measures toward improving our business processes.
Quick to set up, and self organising for data that only moderately needs preparation. Structured analysis is easy and quick, the tool is well names because it really can illuminate the data to deliver solid insight.
Perhaps more capabilities to select specific subset of data would help - if the data is very badly formatted it is totally useless.
Strongly aligned to the visualisation space, standard reporting is not this tools forte, but quick insight certainly is where its strengths lie.
We are an analytics company working with a range of similar tools including Tableau, Microsoft PowerBI and Qlik, so we are always looking at new options to delight our customers. Lumira certainly has the potential to do that, and can compete on a level playing field with these technologies.
The interface is very pleasing to the eye. Most of the GUI is intuitive and easy to use.
I'm not happy with the integration to BI LaunchPad through Lumira Server. It is very limited yet and doesn't allow for refreshing of the data in LaunchPad or scheduling of FHSQL data. I would like to see more functions available in Lumira Server.
Showing state of the art graphics and analytics of our data to our customers. We are hoping to be able to export to LaunchPad and schedule and deliver customized Lumira dashboards to our business segments.
The segregation of different kinds of reports and categories is the best to use like to get the sales revenue we directly can jump into the sales reports and deduce the visuals based on the dimensions that are readily available.
we need to have options to customize the visuals and reports a bit more if possible like applying reports from different categories.
get all the beneficial visualization without any integration of database or excels. inbuilt categories helps them to review the graphs and create more accurate reports to make enhanced decisions.
currently i am enrolled in a masters program and using it for our simulation games and project purposes. we are trying to visualize our revenue and sales graphically and prepare a report based on the output.
Ready made functionalities that are commonly used by analysts.
Lumira is built in a very methidolic maner forcing the analyst to focus on the important elements in every stage (data acquisition, preparation, creating the right charts, and tayloring the storyboard).
Data acquisition limitations in terms of volumes and performance when working with the BW.
Inability to maintain or change certain trasformation made in the preparation steps, such as enhancing the merge (join) key definition after it done.
Changes on charts are not reflected on story boards.
Make sure that need is for a self service tool and not another dashboarding tool and set your mind accordingly for better implementation.
Adhoc reporting done fast and easy.
High an impressive viz.
After data acquisition, in memory processing of the data performs very good.
Intuitive and ease tools, that you can use since the first moment. With time ando some extra formation, you can get more and more each time you use it.
You can easely find onlive information and videos about hoiw the get the most od SAP Lumira.
Less intuitive create calculated Dimensions. I think is a topic that could be improved.
I'm a SAP System Adminstrators Team Manager. We have a large SAP systems, and large amount of data regarding performance, space managment, etc.
With SAP Lumira I was able to gain better insight about some relations, and improve system managment.
i haved liked the simple steps to connect almost any data source, enrich the data as required and prepare advance visualisations using vector graphics or maps etc., and simple steps to share it it across.
most of the people compare Lumira with tableau. Both have adv & disadvantages, having a SAP self service tool for SAP landscape will be better integration. if you build some custom visualization using d3 etc., this visulizations are not supported by lumira cloud. Lack of documentaiton for new connectivity options like connecting lumira with hadoop.
if you are into SAP landscape, it's always better to have a SAP visulization tool
Self service needs of customers creating the infographoics using vectorgraphics & the most satisfied feature is manupulating the data as required in the data prepration tab
