"useful and strong data analysis and data mining tools"

What do you like best?

1 SAS Business Intelligence provides EM,EG,SMC,MM and so on.It's all the application about model building together.

2 It's very convient for building models and deploying models.

3 SAS provides restful statistical examples and easily IT support through the IT support service.

4 SAS is easy doing business with but need to master sas program language and model building progress.

5 SAS Business Intelligence with guided analytics capabilities to broaden the reach of advanced analytics for us. It's very useful for us to master sas.

What do you dislike?

1 SAS Business Intelligence cost much.

2 Also it's not so popular like python or R. It provides Big data solution through 9.4 which is not convient for us.

3 It didn't provides software edition for Mac OS.

4 To some extent this was the truth that it is not easy to master for the students compared to R or python.

5 Can it do distributed computation? I am not sure about this.

"New User to SAS"

What do you like best?

We primarily use SAS Base as our analtyical tool and I found with some basic SQL knowledge that the tool was very easy to learn. The documentation online is extremely useful. The tool is extremely powerful and you are often able to execute complex business questions. with just a few lines of code. The ability to build out macros is great.

What do you dislike?

I find the UI to be outdated and clunky compared with more modern tools. It could be easily improved by allowing the windows to snap or re-arrange automatically. On occasion the log will also cease to update and it is necessary to restart. Additionally the tool is not cheap so migrating to a newer version is often not economically feasible.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you have some SQL background. It makes the tool much easier to pick up and much more powerful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use SAS for data management and analysis for sales, product, and marketing teams.

"An Intelligent software for Business Intelligance"

What do you like best?

The user interface is quite impressive. The Data visualization along with greater flexibility are unique factors.

There are various modules under this software and are all connected.

What do you dislike?

The cost of the software is a bit higher than expected. Free courses are not generally offered with the package. SAS coding becomes vital on advance level of data preparation.

Recommendations to others considering the product

With better understanding in SAS coding, exceptional results can be achieved.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using it for many statistical problems and specially using for forecasting customer demand based on different dependent and independent variables.

"Very useful and simple"

What do you like best?

I like the fact that it is well integrated with other SAS software and results can be made accessible to someone with almost no statistical background.

What do you dislike?

It can be pricey if you want the complete suite to prepare your data and share with numerous users.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You have to know what your are going to use this product for. It meshes well with the other SAS tools. It can be cloud based if you do not wish to buy physical servers or have no control on your IT services.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am analyzing datasets with a few million records from web servers and I can prepare more custom and faster reports that the project manager can "play" with.

"SAS Business"

What do you like best?

SAS has a wide range of products, making it kind of complex, but at the same time powerful and adaptive. now they're moving to the cloud, and that it's going to make things faster, and lighter. I 've worked with them for many years, and I wouldn't change.

What do you dislike?

Considering the costs, maybe not so accessible (quite high license price) compared to other statistical software but anyway the quality of the tools is really high.

Recommendations to others considering the product

SAP does help get the right information to anyone who needs it, and to Integrate and discover data as well as creating report

"Decent Tool for BI"

What do you like best?

SAS Business Intelligence deploy real-time analytics directly to mobile devices and Microsoft applications

What do you dislike?

User interface is not very attractive, it seems a bit oldish. Also price is high relatively. Also less support online as compared to other "famous" BI tools like Tableau.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Spend some time and you'll be used to the UI and it will seem much easier and user friendly than initial impression

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Very good software to use for Big Data."

What do you like best?

The UI of the program is very easy to learn. Once you learn the basics, you can get right into the software. If you have previous data or statistics background, the learning curve is even shorter.

What do you dislike?

The installation process is a bit long and requires technical information from IT such as server information and ports.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend SAS BI to others because it is very efficient when you work with a lot of data. It allows you to query efficiently multiple databases and join them together for all you analytic needs. In addition, it is super fast and trump other softwares such as SMART.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Have to perform analytic on large volume of customer data in house. With SAS, data queries and manipulation is much more efficient than MS Access.

Depending on how your system is set up SAP can be extremely useful tool that provides insight into your supply chain processes

What do you dislike?

As with any SAP product it is only as useful as the money you put into it. Unfortunately our company does not have the financial resources to continually update and improve SAP therefore we are left with a sub optimal product

"SAS Business Intelligence & Analytics"

What do you like best?

SAS solution is robust and comprehensive as compared to other products in the Business Intelligence industry. The end to end solution offered by SAS BI, which includes platforms ranging from performing bulky ETL work to providing power users to create informative dashboards, packs a neat punch. Further on SAS Business Intelligence platforms does a great job to use robust metadata management, effectively screening out the semantic layer from actual data structures.

What do you dislike?

High licensing costs can be a disincentive for small to medium level enterprises trying to build sustainable Business Intelligence solutions. As with most businesses, talent shortage sometimes does play a role as skilled SAS Business Intelligence workforce is scarce to find. Installation and administration of SAS Business Intelligence environment can prove to be a daunting task vis a vis other too business intelligence products available in the market.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Plan ahead to harness the power of SAS analytics to fully realize the potential of SAS Business Intelligence as a product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are provide customers with a cutting edge SAS Financial dashboard with crucial analytics to help fund managers gauge their investment strategies and make those informed decisions for their portfolios. The unique ability of SAS Business Intelligence products to help fund managers drill down across multiple custodians and legal entities , while keeping an eye out for their performance numbers is a real shot in the arm. "Steep Learning Curve"

What do you like best?

SAS is a very well though out peace of software and with an incredible variety of tools for Analytic, it is undeniably one of the best tool on the market.

If you are a mathematician or a statisticians, learning SAS programming is a must to make you marketable in the Data Science realm. One of the most powerful tool I have used by far.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve is very very steep, in college an entire class was just about SAS programming.

Though the syntax is close to most programming language it is not super intuitive, the sheer number of macros and functions is very overwhelming.

The other thing is the price, extremely over-priced, making almost inaccessible to certain business or very hard to justify the cost when statistical software like R are completely free

Recommendations to others considering the product

Very pricey software for Data Analytics. Use R it is free and much easier to learn.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I mostly use this in college for class projects or thesis work. Again a very powerful software for optimization, statistical analysis, data mining and even to create UI for the people using your models and other SAS creations.

"I have been using SAS BI for last 6 years as a Developer and Administrator"

What do you like best?

SAS BI has a very strong analytiks capability along with data mining and predictive analytiks tools, I like the features/functionalities of Enterprise Guide, Enterprise Miner, OLAP Cube Studio, Information Map Studio, Web Report, BI Dashboard and In Memory Statistics tools like Visual Analytiks and Visual Statistics

What do you dislike?

SAS/Access Interface to Hadoop. Since Hadoop is a relatively new technology SAS/Access to Hadoop is not stable. I had personally guinea ping for them as we were the first in industry to implement this product.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend complete SAS BI suite because it has a bunch of tools and each tool is designed for a specific purpose and work

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using SAS for detailed Analytiks or Ad-hoc analysis on large volume of data. SAS Enterprise Guide and Information Map Studio are excellent tool for non SAS savvy especially business people who can get along with it really quick and perform the analysis in a short time.

"SAS BI suite is a gateway to the analytics world"

What do you like best?

SAS has a wide variety of built in programs which makes bootstrapping quick and easy. The huge community provides a very good support in case of troubleshooting. Also, seem less integration with other BI stages up to the end stage of visualization is very convenient.

What do you dislike?

It comes with a hefty price tag and has a steep learning curve. Also, one product leads to another and for inter-operability reasons, you have to use end to end SAS suite.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would suggest first check out the support community and get used to the terminologies and syntax. Features are plenty, so focus one at a time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using it for data management tasks like extraction and cleansing. The most important use case for us is querying and reports. With addition of OLAP, it makes a compelling business value.

"Fast and great data processing and statistical analysis tool"

What do you like best?

Base SAS along with other packages cover almost the whole gamut of statistical analysis and techniques.SAS programming syntax can be considered as a high level language which is intuitive and easy to learn compared to other softwares like R.The extensive library of pre defined functions and user defined gives it an edge over other softwares. Further , Macro programming adds a massive scope with both global and local variables.

What do you dislike?

Though great with statistical analysis, SAS is not as good with data extraction and manipulation compared to say SQL. Say in order to merge two datasets, we have to sort both the datasets on the fields we are merging and sorting a large dataset takes a long time in SAS.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Though there are other open source and cheaper alternative available, SAS is going to rule for coming years with the kind of support it provides to the enterprises, continuous improvements with latest versions and validated and ever increasing functions library

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I handle large volumes of retail transactions and need SAS for various statistical procedures like univariate , multivariate, ANOVA, ANCOVA and lots of others for various analyses. The benefits of working with SAS are in terms of time saved if no data manipulation is required and a huge library of pre defined and optimized functions to be used in data and procedure steps. We are able to connect SAS with Exadata to utilized the best of both the technologies and it is a WIN situation for us.

"6 Months Employment as SAS Programmer + 2 College Courses"

What do you like best?

My favorite aspect of SAS was the power behind it. Macros were extremely useful while working for a contract research organization. A listing that needed to be generated hundreds of times could be called in just a few lines of code

What do you dislike?

Although it is powerful, there is a steep learning curve and the syntax is slightly more difficult than other languages. Another issue is that SAS is not a free software. Without a company that is willing to pay for the service, it is difficult to learn on ones own time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Solid Business Intelligence System with User Flexibility"

What do you like best?

The SAS BI suite of clients work well together to set up an accessible BI framework. In my experience users have been able to make modifications easily, reducing the burden on the BI staff. The ability to use both web reports and stored processes gives our analysts choices in what to deliver and how to deliver it.

What do you dislike?

It is a small thing, but with a series of separate clients I need to provide my credentials again and again.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure to consider Visual Analytics also. It looks like it would complement the rest of the BI clients, especially in the first stages of an analysis. It is very important, as it is with any BI system, to carefully develop the granularity of the objects made available to users. It can become very easy to generate garbage results if this isn't done.

"UNIX System Administrator review of SAS BI"

What do you like best?

SAS BI combined with the underlying SAS compute engine makes the tool a jack of all trades. Using the stored process feature combined with information maps and the portal, I can build a web-site to do just about anything.

What do you dislike?

As a system administrator, I dislike the lack of an established work-flow for managing content and data in SAS BI. Aside from the built-in security of the Metadata and the underlying OS security, there seems to be very little to help promote governance, consistency and 'a single view' of data and information. The SAS-user mentality has traditionally been every-man-for-himself, and this seems to translate into SAS BI as well.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you design well, document your design, and plan for portability. If you can pick up your stored process and run it, with little-to-no modification, in any of the SAS App Servers in your environment, you have maximized the availability of your business process to as many users as possible.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm doing some minimal system usage reporting, auditing UNIX processes, etc. This allows me some degree of visibility into what SAS users are doing.
