"Modules individually might be good for some companies"

What do you like best?

I felt the functionality for the Learning (formerly Greenlight) and Performance (formerly Wingspan) modules was fairly comprehensive. There was a decent degree of configuration options and flexibility, Overall, I think you can "get the job done" within each individual module.

What do you dislike?

The modules could not share data between each other (at least not when we used them ...2012-2016). The user interfaces were not the same between the two modules and thus not consistent in how you would navigate and interact with them. It was obvious they were designed by different companies. The UI/UX was dated and in the Learning module, there were multiple pop-up windows that you could get lost in (potentially having 6 open configuring some aspect of a learning).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Certainly look at other vendors. SilkRoad will surely compete well in price and if budget is a number one concern, if you have a decent technical person to go through implementation and act as an ongoing administrator, then they might be the right choice. Otherwise, there are other vendors offering more comprehensive, all-in-one solutions with superior UI/UX.

We needed a system to manage Learning and Performance and wanted it all in one tool. Compliant learning was able to be managed as well as goals and some aspects of Performance, however the lack of strong, 100% shared data and workflows between modules led us to eventually move to another vendor.

"Great partner"

What do you like best?

Our key selection criteria was a software product that provided flexibility. We are a mid-sized organization without a lot of controls and rules in place when it comes to the people side of things. We needed a product that matched our culture and SilkRoad has absolutely been a great partner for us. The implementation team has been fantastic. All highly competent and helpful people. They made the process as painless as possible.

What do you dislike?

The different products don't talk to one another. SilkRoad seems to be working on this through their Connect product. Currently it's not a fully integrated suite. Reporting is fairly basic.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider using their innovative consulting service. It's additional cost but well worth it. It's extremely hard to make configuration decisions when you're not an expert user of the system. The consultants bridge the gap between the system and your needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Move manual processes and reporting to enterprise software suite. We had no software for recruiting, training, and performance. We've realized a huge benefit from implementing SilkRoad.

"User friendly experience!"

What do you like best?

Silkroad's talent management solutions somehow manage to be both robust and user friendly. This is an amazing accomplishment in an industry that seems to pride itself on either being so complex you need a degree in computer science to use or being so simple that you have no real functionality. If I can get a 70 year old technical recruiter using the system and still provide a tier 1 experience for my users then sign me up.

What do you dislike?

While they have made great strides in reporting there is still a ways to go to make it a true source of analytic information. I'm hoping that they add a reporting module at some point to allow full use of the data possibilities of the system.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Relax a little. Implementation is a breeze. Trust your consultant and be open to new ideas and you won't have any problems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were totally paper before these systems. Through our use of these products we have streamlined onboarding, improved our applicant experience with the ATS, and improved our performance management processes. All in all it has been a huge success.

"SilkRoad Suite of Products"

What do you like best?

We use the SilkRoad products - HRIS, Onboarding, Performance and Recruiting... we like the ease of use of the products - very user friendly.

What do you dislike?

In HeartBeat, reporting functionality is limited. And, permissions can be tricky if you don't participate in the training to understand what the permission rules are (for all the suite).

It does not integrate well with ADP WorkforceNow.

Make sure the implementation projects are staffed appropriately from the business perspective and make sure that the stakeholders for the product are "bought in."

"User-friendly but the reporting tools are not comprehensive enough"

What do you like best?

The reporting tool is not flexible and not comprehensive enough. It is not user-friendly either. The format of the exported data is also disrupted. The quality of the customer support team is very far from the satisfaction level. The response is very slow and sometimes even not relevant. We, as the customer, need to proactively ask for updates all the time.

"SilkRoad Technology Review"

What do you like best?

The OpenHire (recruiting) product is very user friendly, customizable and has great manager features. The business that I was a part of also used WingSpan (performance management/comp.), RedCarpet (onboarding) and HeartBeat (HRMS). They have a wide array of products and a few of them have the capability to exchange information back and forth (OpenHire & RedCarpet). The implementation teams were always very helpful and provided great realistic timelines.

What do you dislike?

When we first signed up their customer service was much better. Now they have gotten to big and their customer service is lacking or they don't have enough resources or they aren't well informed. Their HeartBeat system doesn't have a lot of capabilities and many things are still very manual. The reporting is awful and there is no ability to do custom reports (which we weren't aware of). We were under the understanding that the products talked to each other so we could cut down on multiple entry and passwords and this wasn't the case, you had to implement a separate program that you could do data exchanges (but this was still manual).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Do your due diligence and ask a lot of questions. Don't just have them show you what they want to show you in the demos. Get a list of customers to do interviews with so you get a real taste of the systems you are looking to buy. And if implementing multiple systems don't do all at once, take your time and involve the business so they buy into the product as well.

Cutting down on multiple entry into multiple systems and one platform to have a similar look and feel for end users as well as save money.

We really didn't see any benefits as we kept having to shell out money and spend money on additional modules to help enhance our portfolio.

"SilkRoad's Greenlight has helped move us into the 21st Century"

What do you like best?

The functionality and user friendly/intuitive nature of GreenLight have been a tremendous asset for our organization and have provided us with tools we've never had before that provide limitless developmental opportunities for our employees.

What do you dislike?

The interface between GreenLight and another SilkRoad product we have, WingSpan, could be much better. The 2 systems are very different from one another and we currently are not utilizing a single sign on which would be helpful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Almost immediately upon implementation we started to see employees utilizing the training material within GreenLight. It has added an entirely new level of training options for our employees which they seem to appreciate. In addition, company-wide training/development is now created, tracked and maintained in ways that weren't possible before we had GreenLight.

"Performance products are a lot of work"

Structured nature of the product provided ease of use.

What do you dislike?

It's a difficult product to implement if there are no prior values to convert.

If you are a first time implementer of a performance product, be sure to request a project manager with lots of experience with the product.

The need to manage performance is extremely important in today's litigious business environment. A performance management product assists with that need.

"Very Poor Experience"

What do you like best?

At first the customer service was great. It quickly went down hill with all of the products that we have. We had many consultants from SilkRoad who worked very hard to get us where we needed to be but unfortunately we were never able to get there.

What do you dislike?

We were billed for services we did not make use of. We did not receive the help we needed to set up the products.

"On the fence on this one!"

What do you like best?

The silkroad system itself seem pretty easy to set up information and for the end user to use. The employees found the system pretty simple and easy to use. The system was simple to navigate for the end user. Kicking of the process was simple and we had no major issues with bugs in the system. Overall I would say the easy of the system was a success.

What do you dislike?

The customer support team was not helpful to us when we were trying to set up our information. We had several issues when we were trying to set up the system for our goal setting process. We had a great deal of difficutly being able to get assistance and answers to our questions. We had to threaten the cancellation of our contract before we were able to find someone who was willing to assist us. There were many unreturned phone calls and emails. My company felt that what we were promised was not delivered to us. We had difficulty getting the system to do what we wanted it to. We were very detailed in what we wanted out of a system before we purchased it. We overall did not feel we got good customer service.

Make sure you get a contact for a support person who will be able to assist you and return you calls and emails.

"Good product"

What do you like best?

Their training sessions and IT support were amazing

What do you dislike?

Customer service was not great and the product, although easy to use, it was difficult to find things and took much more time then it should to find HR information in an HR database

"SilkRoad - we utilize HeartBeat and WingSpan, and have found SilkRoad to be the right solution."

What do you like best?

User-friendly, right-size for a small to mid-size organization with capability to grow with the organization. Integraion of the modules and data flow between them is very helpful.

What do you dislike?

Because of all the capabilities in WingSpan, I find myself relying on the HelpDesk for answers.

The benefits of using the SilkRoad products are endless! We have been able to pull a variety of data reports from HeartBeat to enhance strategic planning, HR analysis, reporting to Managers, etc. WingSpan is a great automation of the Performance Management process for both goal setting and annual performance reviews. The tracking mechanisms are great, and the customizing capabiliites have matched our organization perfectly.

"SilkRoad WingSpan (Performance Management Tool) Review"

What do you like best?

Tool is very user friendly. As long as you understand English, you are set!

What do you dislike?

Customization. We are a global company and implemented the use of offering multiple-lingual versions of our performance management appraisal form. Assuming Silkroad WingSpan had the capability to do so...it did not. We were responsible for translating the template ourselves..which has me puzzled. You offer the tool in different languages, but yet cannot assist us with the translations (both the appraisal form itself as well as the feedback that is written in the employees' & managers' respective language).

Recommendations to others considering the product

As a suggestion, If you have the bandwidth and resources, consider doing the performance management system in-house. When you use a third party provider, there will be limitations in what you can do in the system and features. The succession planning and compensation planning modules work (sort of) for us. We have had to tailor our processes a bit to accommodate for that. We certainly wish we could do more with them, but alas...system limitations.

Trying to capitalize on our current employee staff. Using the tool to adequately assess talent. Who are our future leaders? And how do we groom and retain them until that day comes?

All of the history and archiving of data is refreshing. No more having to chase down old performance reviews, this system takes it to a whole other level.

"Wingspan - We've had a great experience with Wingspan. "

What do you like best?

I like the analytics involved in the tool. It's easy to monitor and track performance management activity.

What do you dislike?

I wish the tool were slightly more intuitive when trying to send mass e-mails to employees.

Before, our performance management system was very subjective. Now our employees feel better about a rating system and diary system to capture content.

What do you like best?

The writing library and the legal scan functionality.

What do you dislike?

Customer service has been troublesome over the years. We have a dedicated individual to help now but the answers we get are still often off base and way too slow.

What do you like best?

Efficiency, user friendliness of Open Hire, functionality

Level of effort, complexity and time taken during the implementation stage especially in reference to Wingspan

They have some great modules such as Open Hire that can work well especially on a global scale but the implementation process for the wingspan product was not as seamless as the open hire implementation and took a lot more time and effort than originally expected. Wingspan is user friendly but not necessarily administrator friendly

I particularly like the integration amongst applications; my organization requires several layers of data and we are able to recruit, onboard and train more efficiently!

"Marginal at best..."

What do you like best?

I like that we actually have products that catalog all of our information in one place.

What do you dislike?

The back end set up was extremely painful and arduous.

I would make sure that the implanting team understands the time commitment to developing and rolling out a silkroad product.

"SilkRoad's WingSpan is wonderful."

What do you like best?

I appreciate the ability to use 360 Feedback for appraisals and simultaneously cascade annual goals from the same platform.

What do you dislike?

I would prefer that all suites be available as one package instead of On-Boarding, ATS, Appraisals, Core HRMS, etc.

What do you like best?

I like that the trainers we have worked with have been very nice.

What do you dislike?

This program is not user friendly at all. The steps you must follow to complete any task are disjointed and redundant.

Fairly straight forward to configure and administer. Employees and managers find it easy to use.
