What do you like best?

Solarwinds LEM, has help us a lot to compliance with our company controls. Also, is very easy get information from the reports that come with the tool. We can create custom reports depending the information and platforms that we are needing in the moment.

Solarwind community is very big, he really help you if you have a problem. You have a lot information on solarwinds website, also you can get free online trainings.

What do you dislike?

The initial configuration is not to easy and you need to understand what your company need. So you need to do a careful plan and look for expert help from solarwinds engineers. So to have the information that you need is not to easy but doing a good plan you will get all that you need from a single dashboard.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You will get a lot information from this software but to get the best you need to do a good planning before the implementation, so you will need a expert help if you not sure of what you need. So you need to start with the essential and then you go with the difficult .

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

You can see in real time the log and correlative with a particular event. Also do the forense analysis is very easy and help you a lot to realize what happened in your infrastructure. "Powerful SIEM with great functionality "

What do you like best?

It has connectors that allows you to get alerts that are proprietary to certain types of equipment and vendors. Great Reporting and alerts.

What do you dislike?

Building the filters is pretty tough. We get so many alerts that it is hard to deal with. It would be nice if the filter building would be a little easier. We are a small department and it is hard to be an expert at everything.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very powerful and will give you a lot of info. It takes a lot to tune it so you won't get so many alerts that you won't be able to see the important ones. For me the, filter building for alerts is a little cumbersome. You should get some training to learn it. You really need to have someone that is an expert on this and it takes a good portion of someone's time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Requirements for PCI and managing alerts on the network.

What Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Not a SIEM, but a good logging product"

What do you like best?

Once setup, it's effective and works well. And surprisingly it's cost effective compared to other software we demo'd

What do you dislike?

Not completely intuitive, and somewhat difficult to setup.

Recommendations to others considering the product

We compared this to Splunk and QRadar. Splunk is a good product, but is based on size of logs--not number of devices monitored. This makes LEM attractive--although not as robust. And Solarwinds was great about demo'ing it and helping us in initial setup.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

LEM allows us to monitor a variety of servers, from Windows and Linux, and view variances and anomalies in events. It's especially effective for excessive login attempts (AD, firewall).

"SolarWinds Coming thru again in a big way"

What do you like best?

When we initially deployed this product we were looking for something to fill many roles to include a syslog server to archive sensitive logs, event detection and alerting for common issues like failed circuits and password lockouts, attempts to log in with privileged accounts, and any infrastructure changes such as changes to Microsoft AD. It has done all of this and more

What do you dislike?

I could not ask for more from this vendor. Updates are clearly communicated. We have had very few reasons to contact support

Recommendations to others considering the product

Develop a comprehensive list of what you want to watch so you can make sure this or any other product can handle it. With this product, if they do not currently do it they can usually develop something for you.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SolarWinds is acting for us like a Super Charged Syslog server. It has so many possibilities that we now are using one central product for something we used many.

"The Luxury car software"

What do you like best?

SolarWinds is easy to read and organize your dashboard in a pleasing and simple view.

What do you dislike?

This is a nickel and dime you software, everything is an additional cost and everything has multiple levels of licensing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You will need a blank check to afford all of the modules and licensing levels for this software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SolarWinds currently used as network monitoring software for a large wireless deployment used for traffic signals.

"Powerful Tool"

What do you like best?

I like the amount of things you can monitor and get reports on from the LEM tool. There are multiple platforms, including virtualized that are available. The LEM puts it all in one place and you can generate reports based on events, device type, platform, etc. It makes managing connectivity and resources easier. I also went through their user training and it was painless and the instructor was very helpful.

What do you dislike?

At first it's not intuitive unless you monitor devices for a living. I've been in IT over 10 years but until I started using LEM I'd never had the opportunity to use a similar tool. I was a little overwhelmed by the enormousness and volume of the items you can monitor for the different types of nodes/platforms/events, especially in our large organization. However, as soon as I was able to see how quickly I could find out information about our data center, it made the benefits immediately visible.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use many SolarWinds products, so this component simply allows us to monitor logs on any node we want. We avoid unnecessary browsing through devices to find logs that could be troublesome.

"SolarWinds Informational Review"

What do you like best?

It is good for SIEM software and for pulling event data against networks for small businesses. It is also easy to pick up and use for all even those with little to no prior experience. I think it also is good and easy to set up and doesn't require much time at all.

What do you dislike?

It needs some tweaking to get data configured, but once that is handled it is beneficial for the user.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It helps limiting the amount of data needed in terms of business need without a full dump.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Setting up and organizing alerts is compatible with this type of software.

"Solarwinds LEM "

What do you like best?

I like the simplicity of the LEM running on a Unix console. Updates are very easy to apply to the console and then pushing them out to the client via the GUI is very easily accomplished.

What do you dislike?

So far I have not found any dislikes, other then I would like the hardware based version and not the virtual version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use this primary to stop the use of non-authorized USB devices.

"SolarWinds - The power of the sun"

What do you like best?

From my perspective I really like the ease of use and how it fits in so well with other SolarWinds products. It makes monitoring our systems that much easier

What do you dislike?

Not much, the product like most of SolarWinds products has been well thought out and meshes well with most systems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use the event manager and log to track issues that occur primarily within our network, but we have found use for it in other areas like watching our hosts and virtual environment.
