SolidWorks Electrical Professional

Embedded electrical systems planning requires a unified electrical toolset that provides single- and multi-line schematic tools. Embedded system design also requires all work in 2D and 3D to be synchronized with integrated Bills of Materials (BOMs) for both mechanical and electrical parts

"It is a product with a great variety of functions that allow an excellent integration."

What do you like best?

It is ideal to achieve a perfect operation and integration of tools that allow to improve the design of mechanical and electrical parts. We can set many parameters thanks to the list of materials. SolidWorks Electrical Professional is ideal for your environment because it has an excellent integration and operation for all designs that need a product with a variety of functions.

What do you dislike?

It is a product that requires a very powerful computer. But taking into account the capabilities and the large number of tools that allow improving the aspects of mechanical and electrical designs I think it is not a problem.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The most basic and most complex functions are in SolidWorks. For this reason I am very convinced that it is a very functional and completely robust product perfect for all levels than any design.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Before SolidWorks Electrical Professional was implemented, we could not perform any variables in the designs. We always had mistakes and it cost us time and money when a design did not have the correct dimensions and characteristics. SolidWorks Electrical Professional solved many of our errors for design constructions.

"Better features at a higher cost"

What do you like best?

Its ability to schematize and plan in an orderly manner the electrical planes to be used place it in the forefront of software of this type in addition to its multiple tools that come with this package. It also has an excellent 3d visualization tool. The catalog of components to be used is very broad thus giving a huge margin of use of the program.

What do you dislike?

The price is somewhat expensive compared to other programs in the market including the same company so if the company is small it is not recommendable to start with this software. The transition from one state of the drawing to another is usually a bit slow and requires computers with large capacity to be able to use all the tools that Solidworks Electrical Professional has.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is advisable to perform the renderings separately due to the great capacity of resources that requires the computer, outside of this is a fantastic software which can be taken advantage of and although it is somewhat expensive the benefits and profits are appreciated in a very short time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It helped us to digitalize all the plans that we have in physical and to be able to access them in a simpler, faster and safer way, also now the new electrical installations are made from there providing a significant improvement in the speed of creation of new products and being able to modify them in real time.

"Excellent software for electrical designs"

What do you like best?

Solidwork Electrical has an incredible gamma of components that can be adjusted to any job within the Company, besides the integration with the other software of the brand (Solidworks, Solidworks Simulation, Solidworks Electrical 3D) makes it a robust software with many applications inside of the company

What do you dislike?

Often the change from one software to another causes that design properties are lost and have to be modified constantly to correct, in addition the rendering tools tend to be very tedious and heavy so their use will always take away precious time, outside of this software is great and has no faults.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The software has great advantages and can be adapted to many uses within the company, its integration with other software of the mara make it an incredible set when using it, the ability to create simulations of the behavior of the components is simply great. is a software that any company of the eletric branch would be useful

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Solidworks electrical professional did not help much in the implementation and design of electrical systems, thus creating the schemes that would be used in the future and can even simulate their behavior, in addition to integrate it with the other products of the solidworks line we could interpret how we would do the system electrical in parts and models that were still in the design process within the company.

"Getting there"

What do you like best?

SWE takes away the tedious task of inputting repeated information on various drawings and tables. Along with that comes the benefit of changing multiple locations of the same information in one quick step.

What do you dislike?

The product is not where it need to be. There are issues with commands and functions that do not behave as they should (as with any software). But it seems to take SW a long time to resolve issues, even when major. There is no way to keep a fully functional backup and there is no way to lock down drawings in an active project. Any entities on the drawing not containing metadata are lost if SWE crashed or you have to rebuild your drawing through the database for any reason.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Check out ALL aspects before buying - not just the dog and pony show. If you need back-ups, steer clear (for now anyway), If revision control is a key, you must use their PDM (maybe it will work)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It has helped organize our drawings and the information contained in them - even with the pitfalls and occasional corrupt file. Across the board changes are easy.
