I do not give out a top score for a review freely.
That being said, Square has been the most user-friendly, most honest, and most upfront merchant service provider I've used. While their rates are slightly higher than others, the services provided for free more than make up for the roughly half-a-percent difference. Everything is spelled out in their terms of service, everything is explained in plain speak, from the rates to the marketing to their loan program.
What I enjoy most about Square is the ability to monitor and if needed access sales and transactions when I am away from the shop. If there is a concern or a refund needed and my employees have a question, I can access the interface easily from my tablet, my phone, or my laptop, depending on the availability. This also makes it easier to accept payments on-site as for consultations and deliveries.
We have tried four different merchant services in the three years we have owned our shop, and each time we had an issue, whether not receiving our batch in a timely manner, horrid customer service, or giving us a hard time about services and equipment, Square has always been hassle-free.
My only complaint with Square is the lack of phone support; while I am technologically savvy enough to figure out the system, some of my contemporaries are not so much, and get frustrated by this.
If you're looking for straight-up, plain-speak, up-front about everything in a merchant service provider, Square is the way to go. No hidden fees, everything is spelled out, and their email support is top notch.
