"Star Chapter can't be beat for your association's needs"

What do you like best?

Star Chapter offers the most comprehensive and affordable association management software system available today for organizations of all sizes.

What do you dislike?

There are a few features Star Chapter has not implemented yet that would make it even better, such as the ability to draft customized email messages and set them up on a distribution schedule by specific dates and times. Collecting event RSVP's via email, with a "Yes" or "No" option is another feature that would be extremely helpful.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are struggling and need to find one system that does it all for you, your board and your members at large - look no more! Star Chapter does it all at an affordable price, no contracts and the best customer service and tech support available.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The biggest problem we were able to solve with Star Chapter was eliminating the need for separate systems to manage member data, events, payments and communications with, which were not compatible, expensive and required separate data entry in each system.

"Most User Friendly Association Website"

What do you like best?

I love the support! The support team is open to feedback, work hard to answer your questions and implement user improvements.

What do you dislike?

The current WYSIWYG is small and a little challenging to work inside of, but that is a small minus. The new interface is updating this issue.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a fully integrated platform you can...

- send emails to people that attended an event or a few events

- set up promo codes for events and limit the number of times it is used or who can use it

- set up groups to allow access to web pages, email directly or display on a content page

- sell items such as promotional merchandise, classified ads and sponsorships

- set up surveys for members or nonmembers to complete and get reporting data right out of the system

- set up free or paid meetings for 1 to 5000

- post event photos

- manage forms for speaker submissions or anything you need a special form for!

You can do everything you need to do in one place. No more emails over here, membership over there, meetings in a third system. You can have your membership processed right away so someone can sign up for an event that day and also automatically get a welcome email upon completion of the transaction. It is easy to use and all of our staff works on it. We have groups that have 100 members and groups that have 4000+ members and they can all use the system. We have 20 of our clients on the platform and recommend to all.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is our membership database, registration system, handles job postings, email manager, survey manager, photo gallery, blog, newsletter manager and general website for the organization.

Overall it has the ease of having everything in one place. That has made it much easier to do our job.

"Pros and Cons"

What do you like best?

Easy to see in a snapshot what our revenue collection is looking like.

What do you dislike?

It is not easy to navigate in the area of creating meetings/events.

I do like the end product of StarChapter. It's even fairly easy to use from a user standpoint. It's the administrator functions relating to the initial set up of our meetings each year that are extremely difficult. That part of the system is not intuitive whatsoever; very difficult to navigate.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm part of a group of volunteers who plan an annual payroll conference associated with the American Payroll Association. Our website is held within StarChapter. Our web address is mwpayrollconf.org. Our attendee database is housed within StarChapter. We are able to send blasts to all who are interested in attending our conference; we're able to track all payments, revenue and such as well as send invoices to those who have not yet paid.

"Pluses and Minuses with Star Chapter"

What do you like best?

This new system now enables us to email groups of our members efficiently and track the open/bounce stats. Our members are getting more familiar with registering and renewing online so that system is increasingly efficient.

What do you dislike?

The inability to filter lists easily by group/member type;

the inability to remove an order from the system (the system generates countless duplicate invoices which result in the inaccurate appearance of balances due);

The inability to search by name when registering a colleague - you must select the name from a dropdown of 800 names;

the member directory does NOT work for us - the Member COMPANY should be searchable, rather than the individual member. The best way for a consumer to search is by zip code but the results remove the company name, making the search results unusable.

the lack of an API. Due to above difficulties with the member directory, we will need to develop our own member directory and link it to SC somehow. An API would make this much more efficient.

Evaluate whether the member directory and accounting features are what you need.

Registration, renewal, membership retention seem to be improved with the new system.

"Pretty easy to use, but doesn't quite meet our needs"

What do you like best?

Easy user interface, configurable, great support and ticketing system, lots of available online guides and tutorials, affordable for our small association (industry user group), easy email content creator, badge printing great, lots of great initial templates to use or edit as desired for pages, forms and badges, easy to create new forms and add to website.

What do you dislike?

Sales said yes to all of our detailed requirements, but we found after implementation there were some major gaps. While they agree to add them as enhancement requests, there's no way to know if they'll ever be done. There is no option to pay for a customization. In these areas, processes are still mostly manual. Needs better company/member management with a member admin who can maintain it's own members and register self and other members of that company. More ticket type options (print/email an actual ticket not just a confirmation), force profile updates at meeting registration, better file management system for internal file management.

Do a proof of concept before fully committing. Consider a customizable product to fill gaps.

Automation of our association activities around member/non-member contact info, new member join, annual renewals, meeting registration, payment activities, email marketing, website hosting.

"Easy to use, affordable and reliable."

What do you like best?

Nice looking templates and quick to add events.

What do you dislike?

When you have a change to your events, you have a report that has a million collumns instead of having them combined into one collumn. Also, all my members have designations after their name and a special character always appears, which I have to remove one by one when printing badges. This is time consuming. I would also like an event app integrated into the system one day. Lastly, the email system is not very easy to use and is not template friendly like Constant Contact or Mail Chimp. Therefore, we still use Constant Contact to have great looking emails.

Seeing who attends what and when, or not. More members renew because if they are not in the system, they cant register as a member- saving us money double checking the reg list and getting members to renew on their own more frequently. Also, board members can access anytime anywhere- maybe one day they will do this too (for now it is just nice to know they can.)

"Star Chapter Superfam"

What do you like best?

I use Star Chapter for multiple associations of different sizes. I consistently recommend Star Chapter to other association executive directors and administrators as the most comprehensive and affordable association management system available. Tech support and ongoing training are also outstanding.

What do you dislike?

I would like to have added functionality such as scheduling email distributions for customized messages and by date and time. I have suggested these improvements to the system, but they have not been added yet.

"easy to use system and very user-friendly"

What do you like best?

Easy to use and very user-friendly. Customer Service is excellent.

What do you dislike?

Thank you for asking! #1) Not able to list a member with two designations, have to account for them as two separate members. #2) Also, one other thing - would be nice if when scheduling out event emails for the future - you have the ability to choose specific days "from a calendar" instead of a number of days prior to the event. It's a bit ambiguous for not knowing if you are counting the event day as day 1 or day 0 "from" the event. Having a drop-down calendar option for choosing the date/days would be nice.

"AFP Chapter President recommends StarChapter"

What do you like best?

It's an intuitive and user-friendly admin process and we can have multiple admins so it works well for a group or board whose officers change annually.

What do you dislike?

Nothing. The smaller company size has meant better customer relations for us.

Determine what you need and your budget. Research your options, host a StarChapter preview with your decision makers, talk to the StarChapter marketing rep and see if StarChapter fits your criteria.

"Good program with a few challenges"

What do you like best?

I really like the ability to make all changes, to automatically send emails and to work with member data in one place.

What do you dislike?

The limited ability to be creative with newsletters or announcements.

Really understand what you want done prior to set-up. Once set-up starts with the Star Chapter team it is pretty faced paced until launch time , and then you are basically on your own!

Having all records in one place that can be accessed by other leaders and not just staff, is really helpful. I see smoother transitions when staffing and leaders change.

"Star Chapter has made my Job so much easier!"

What do you like best?

This software cuts down on some of the daunting tasks of being a chapter leader all of the behind the scene. It allows the leaders to focus on growing the membership and providing professional quality education to their members.

What do you dislike?

The email verification that members have to go thru when they are loaded into the database. the email is nondescript and members tend to ignore it.

StarChapter has worked with our IT department to get a daily upload of new members, this cuts out the step of the administrator having to upload the list.

"Good value - always room for improvement"

What do you like best?

I like that there is a modern clean cut look to the sites. Most of it is intuitive and easy to use.

What do you dislike?

There seems to be an all or one approach to access for admins. This is difficult to manage considering the various “hats” many volunteers wear. Also making groups appears to be a little cumbersome especially if you are adding people to groups who aren’t already part of your organization. Makes it difficult to market your organization.

I think they are more modern than many other affiliate management systems and are on the right track.

"Great affordable non-profit web software"

What do you like best?

I think the ease of use and that I can quickly teach a new volunteer how to make updates. This is an all in one product for non-profits from managing membership to coordinating events. It has multi functional platform that allows the user to everything in one place - newsletters, blogs, sponsor management, etc.

What do you dislike?

Setting up registration can be a bit challenging, it would be great if it had the ability to build sessions into a registration. As for the membership management piece, it makes things a bit tricky when folks let there memberships lapse and they are moved into the "former member" category none of their membership history is saved, such as their join date. The newsletters are a bit clunky for an online format, when sending through an email they are extremely long and most folks are not taking the time to scroll through them. The restriction of admins make things difficult for volunteer based organizations as you need to upgrade your plan to accommodate this even though your membership may not be at the level that is needed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a small business or a non-profit organization looking for a web platform that can accommodate all your needs, then Star Chapter is defiantly for you. My client choose this option as it saved them money on paying for the additional services their old platform was not providing, mass email, newsletters, blogs, forums, etc. Make the move.

Membership management, registration, news, etc. all in one place. This is truly a one-stop shop that is affordable. There are many web platforms out there, however too many of them charge a crazy amount of money or need constant updates to function properly, this is an affordable option based on your membership base and allows for small businesses to have a professional web platform without the price tag.

"Excellent customer service"

What do you like best?

We are beyond pleased with the customer service we receive from Star Chapter. They always respond quickly to our questions and needs.

What do you dislike?

We do have some issues when we update our member roster that bios have been erased in the past and replaced with the member type description. We are working to correct this.

We would also like to see greater capabilities with the Event Management piece. We are an organization that has to send out certificates after our events and would like to be able to use Star Chapter to do that.

Improved membership management. Our website has a much cleaner look and is less cumbersome to manage on the back end.

What do you like best?

I love the membership management and the simplicity of setting up meetings and the ability for people to register and pay for our events. This was a game changer!

"Registration Process"

What do you like best?

I like the look of the website. Very clean. I like everything about the website EXCEPT THE REGISTRATION PROCESS.

What do you dislike?

I strongly dislike the registration process. 1) the emails that we receive when someone registers if very unclear. You only have the one person's name, no company name, no additional guests that are registered, no payment information. 2) you don't receive email when someone registers that is prepaid. This causes you to miss registrations. 3) I don't see where I can print the registration list from the site. This entire process is terrible.

Be sure to allow significant time for training if you have never worked with a back-end of website before. The support is fantastic, but you need to put in the time too.

"Great software and usability"

What do you like best?

We love the accessibility of the website and how easily and quickly things can be updated and changed. The responsive and adaptive modules that update automatically are great. The meetings are great and provide great reporting

What do you dislike?

I wish the meetings functions would offer more in terms of copying tickets, providing more convenient options for setting up and monitoring breakouts and specific selections within an event.

What do you like best?

CRSMCA likes the simplicity of the to formatting the website content as well as the ease of formatting the registration forms for events.

What do you dislike?

CRSMCA dislikes the lack of reporting options and the limitation and lack of ease to navigate int eh reporting options.

CRSMCA is able now able to provide a website and online registration with one application tool. The biggest benefit at this time is capturing real-time payments for registrations.

"Good but has some basic flaws"

What do you like best?

I like that it is specific to managing associations. Relatively easy to update content. Need follow up training for ADmin users after getting some experience with the site

What do you dislike?

Awful website design. Very dated.

Awful email deliverability. Majority end up in spam filters.

Dated design and poor email deliverability. THe admin portal is extensive but the lay out makes it hard to use.

What do you like best?

How meetings are set up in the system. Member information is automatically uploaded to our chapter's database.

What do you dislike?

Emails/Notifications are not consistently being sent out to participants. Participants have issues with registering for meetings. If an individual is no longer a member of CMSA, their email address/information falls off from the chapter's contact list (instead of individuals moving from member to non-member status)

"Can do almost anything you would want on the membership management side. "

What do you like best?

How it handles our member management and the degree we can control the message. Support staff is helpful although turnaround could be faster

What do you dislike?

Does not have an API to tie into conference software and does not offer conference software. Not an easy system to learn.
