What do you like best?
TeamworkPM is very affordable, even for non-profits, with unlimited users across all our client projects.
Easy to use, especially for team members not familiar with project management jargon and processes.
Excellent integration with email for those who "do everything" by email.
Good separation (via privacy settings) for consultants with multiple client projects.
Multi-level Sub-task structure supports wide range of project plan methodologies.
Thorough Search function spans tasks, comments, files, messages, time log (but not file contents).
Gantt Chart view convenient for major reshaping of project plan as well as minor edits.
Time logging function records time spent against each individual activity, and reports against budget.
All data is easily exportable to Excel for more detailed analysis or reporting.
Every time I have emailed TeamworkPM support (from Australia) I have received an answer within the hour!
What do you dislike?
Most users initially experience a flood of email - this requires managing settings and expectations.
Risk register functionality falls well short of risk management standards - needs extra fields and attachments.
Lacks overall project status report showing a % of completed tasks or workload against target - still waiting!
Reports are basic and don't provide many options - usually requires exporting to Excel.
Recommendations to others considering the product
As a basic project management tool for those with little project experience, TeamworkPM strikes the right balance between capability, usability and affordability, especially if you work with multiple clients or project teams. You will need to manage expectations initially about the volume of emails until everyone learns to set the right level of notifications, then they will wonder how they ever got things done without it!
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
As consultants in the non-profit sector focused on small-medium implementation projects, most of our clients are not familiar with project methodologies and many team members have never been involved in a significant project before. TeamworkPM enables us to engage client team members directly in contributing to the project success by:
- having clear instructions on their allocated tasks,
- visibility across what others are doing,
- a place to capture all their comments and questions,
- store their working files and results.
Because they can report on their own work and progress, they enjoy much greater ownership of the project and the project administrator's workload is reduced.
