"Developing a multiplatform hybrid app for mobiles and desktop for field data capture on oil industry"

What do you like best?

Very complete platform as you can test through simulator or add emulators to test and view results, pause and add breaks to use chromium dev tools, and even a lot of flexibility to build and release for more realistic testing purposes or go out to production as well.

What do you dislike?

There are some opportunity areas on simulator to approach better to reality on iOS mainly, few bugs to fix but to be honest in general terms is a great tool I would say 95% accomplished to be excellent.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great platform great tool, definitely to consider!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

innovation for end clients & time saving for en d users, innovation for my employer and lots of learning for me as developer in the mobile world. Great extension for VS and by adding electron we can build also for Windows or MacOS on the same base code. Lots of learning not only on "responsive" development but also on multi-platform perspective. Just fantastic!

"Issues with Appbuilder"

What do you like best?

The MBaaS for push notifications and data storage.

What do you dislike?

Currently I have a few issues with Appbuilder, its version is behind cordova and even though the apps still run, there are improves I'd like to have sooner.

Appbuilder doesn't offer the ability to sign android debug versions with a custom keystore. This is functionality I can do with native android.

Appbuilder doesn't seem to have a mechanism to limit the android versions and prevent certain versions from using the apk. I could manage the xml file myself but this should be part of the platform.

Appbuilder doesn't work nicely with all cordova plugins. I understand there's a lot of changes under the hood but if the usage of 3rd party plugins was seamless I'd like this product a lot more.

Appbuilder's MBaaS doesn't have a good way to separate development from production without creating two separate projects. That said, if I create a second project, there's nothing to export my backend structure and Appbuilder doesn't show me the relations of my data so I need to document everything manually.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Keep up with the cordova versions. Give more experienced developers more control over the release configurations. Expose backend table relations or create a mechanism to export a database structure from a dev environment to a production environment.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Currently Appbuilder's MBaaS has saved me a lot of time in setting up project and getting ready to go.

"Good platform for cross-platform mobile development"

What do you like best?

Code developed on Telerik can be deployed to three different type of mobile platforms (iOS, Android and Windows).

The license is for development and not for run time. It has helped us in improving developer productivity and also in building professional user interfaces.

What do you dislike?

No significant concerns at this time. Telerik is fairly reliable platform for Mobile development. Telerik needs to build a better partner program. At present it is difficult to register as a partner.

The mobile platform is not very well known. So more marketing is required,

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for a cross-platform mobile development tool then take a look at Telerik as a possible solution. It is a development license so you can build multiple apps and launch them to play stores

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have Salesforce functionality at the backend. We have multiple clients that want to expose this functionality on iOS and Android with less development effort.

"AppBuilder for all"

What do you like best?

The best things that can be found in the software highlights:

Do it once, deploy anywhere.

It can develop native applications, hybrid with kendo, hybrid with apache cordova, in the same environment without additional downloads.

It has an emulator where you can preview the app.

The compilation of the project is done in the cloud, so it is not necessary to have a mac to generate the app.

What do you dislike?

There are some points against as:

Internet connection to compile the project is necessary.

The emulator is not native, is a simple web viewer, where you can not try all the desired features.

The documentation despite being extensive, has gaps, mainly in basic functionality. For example, you do not have documentation on using social networking api.

The community around the product is low.

Its UI has not been updated to Google's material design.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Before purchasing the license, I recommend trying the software, or common tasks according to the needs of each case, to finally acquire or not the software. There are frameworks that do the same and better, but buying other hardware is required to reach the same point.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am currently developing a hybrid mobile application where access to a restful couple information service business system.

One of the requirements was that work on phones with android and ios operating system.

In this part Telerik AppBuilder met its goal and could develop the app. However, it was desired to add login using facebook api and not integration was achieved since the official documentation is too poor to fix it.

"Hyper productive mobile development well supported platform"

What do you like best?

1. Easy to use in the 1st hour itself

2. Curated Cordova plugin's which are well documented make it easy for us to consume them, saving time and adding to quality of the build.

3. Well supported by the staff of Telerik who respond fast and are programmers themselves, so many a times we get working samples.

3. The free trail which is fully functional and support available during trail.

4. Screen builder which helps us in building prototypes faster..

What do you dislike?

1. Cost of procurement.. this is a bottle neck considering our customers are exposed to lot of 'free' alternatives.. selling App builder to a business user is difficult.. we will have to many a time absorb the licensing cost.

2. Backend services - similar issue like above, when compared to Firebase, we loose out..

(App developer in my opinion is user to suggest and be accepted with a B2B client than a B2C client who wants to take their app to market on a smaller budget)..

Recommendations to others considering the product

We have used AppBuilder with JQuery and Angular.js and have reaped benifit from the platform. We recommend it. We have not used NativeScript, so we dont have an opinion on it.

If you are looking at Javascript based development environment, our recommendation is please go for Telerik Appbuilder.. we do not have any complaints except the price points at which the developmetn enviroment and backend services are offered at.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

1. Delivery solutions.

2. Taxi hailing apps

3. Rental apps

4. Workflow management apps

"Mobile Development Made Easy"

What do you like best?

Ability to use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Kendo UI to create fully functional mobile applications. Our organizations' mobile applications are becoming an integral part of our business model allowing for improved performance and great return on investment.

What do you dislike?

Initially, the learning curve to get acclimated with using the product is moderate. We were unaware of any training or documentation available to make the transition easier.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For general business applications, Telerik AppBuilder gives you the ability to develop and distribute mobile applications that positively impact your organization.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using the mobile applications developed with the Telerik AppBuilder to capture important business data while our employees are working remotely on location. The data is then available for reporting purposes on our website and in the mobile applications, to some degree.

"Easy hands-on tool for developing apps"

What do you like best?

AppBuilder provides you with a hands-on interface with all you need to build your app. As you have a graphical interface there is no need to use command line for building apps. Next to that it also provides you with ways to create certificate signing requests. So it does think about a lot of ways to make app building easy.

What do you dislike?

Though I understand it takes time to build and create, I would like to be able to use the latest cordova version. At this point the last stable version of App Builder uses cordova version 4.0.0 and the highest experimental version is 5.2.0 (By the way I would recoomend 5.4).

Cordova however uses version 6.3.1, so you can imagine it sometimes feels like working around stuff.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a graphical interface which allows you to do almost anything you can think of in app building... this is the tool.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I think the biggest thing we solve is the fact that you have one tool for almost everything. So no need fore separate actions to build the app, add versions like android or ios, no need for VSR requests and no need for command line.

Also an advantage is the support, if we don't see it, or if we find a bug, they can help out.

"It's a pretty good tool for cross platform mobile development"

What do you like best?

Not having to learn objective-C and Java. The git hub integration is very cool.

What do you dislike?

.Very vague error messages sometimes on build fails (see my tickets and/or forum posts for examples).

Debugging on Android is not intuitive and if I haven't done it recently it tends to take me 15-20 minutes to get it working while with IOS it's a matter of plugging in the device. I'm sure there is a good reason but you with how closed Apple is you would expect it to be the other way around.

The simulator is pretty good but could be better. For example emulating the soft keyboard would be really cool.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's worth checking out for sure.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main thing is being able to leverage existing javascript/css skill sets. I dont have any experience writing native apps but lots of experience with webapps so it's great to be able to use those existing skills.

"3 Years experience with Telerik building hybrid commercial apps"

What do you like best?

SIngle dev model, design/build/test on multiple platforms.

What do you dislike?

Large price increase this year (+$100/mo) Some flakiness of IDE tooling. I feel that Telerik has really let down its early developer community through PROGRESS" new policies, pricing and focus. The product seemed more stable a couple years ago, and it was certainly more affordable-- it needs to be more tuned in to the developer community, and help with more examples, better simulations, more stability, quicker support response. I don;t feel that my 3 year history f being an early adopter was valued by them at all through this transition, when it should've been a source of feedback. Instead, I feel we were unfairly singled out as early adopters to be phased out by PROGRESS by adopting a 5 times (5x) price increase. This makes the product and overall platform much less attractive to smaller developers, and , as I've advocated bringing it into 3 Fortune 500 companies, I'm now much , much less likely to advise its adoption. I don;t know what users they were looking for, but it didn't feel like it was me any longer (small developer, architect, advocate to larger IT organizations).

Recommendations to others considering the product

A lot more expensive and uncertain once acquired by PROGRESS..might not be the right way to go now.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"AppBuilder Streamlines Mobile Development Nicely"

What do you like best?

The ease of design, testing, and distribution of an app is convenient and efficient. AppBuilder enabled our product to be released quickly as we continued to grow the product, allowing us to hit the market faster than if we managed the entire process in-house.

What do you dislike?

Most importantly there are some issues with managing builds and merges, this tool could be revisited. There are not enough UI customization options for those with visual impairments or desires, for example dark backgrounds are easier to read over long periods of time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider what package may be right for your company, and work your way up. We started small until we were able to identify what we wanted to use and what we did not need.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are working on a unique platform derived from common business needs that have yet to be met in the fashion we address them. The benefit of AppBuilder is the ease of design and distribution.

"ContentActive AppBuilder Review"

What do you like best?

Online dev environment, build and deploy for test and through apple and Google stores.

What do you dislike?

Testing should be easier, app builder app and online emulator do not support additional plugins. So testing works up to a point, then have to use switch environments to test full apps.

Better ionic framework support

Recommendations to others considering the product

Good knowledge of Javascript, angular and cordova

"My Experience with AppBuilder"

What do you like best?

I am not a frequent user of AppBuilder though I have evaluated in the past for my needs. I was happy with the level of integration provided by AppBuilder and with the ease of use.

What do you dislike?

My initial concern with AppBuilder was that Telerik was perhaps moving away from why I loved Telerik in the first place. As a control vendor, their components (esp web controls) are second to none. They are best of breed controls that allow me to quickly leverage their power to build my web applications. Whether it was RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX or Kendo, they met nearly all of my needs.

With the introduction of AppBuilder, it seemed that Telerik's focus shifted. I can see why they introduced AppBuilder and the Telerik Platform, but as a long time control user, it concerned me.

I also find the costs to be prohibitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are considering AppBuilder, carefully weigh the monthly costs against your goals. Hopefully they will align for you.
