"Great Way to test Apps"

What do you like best?

The ability to test apps from various developers and being able to test our own internal apps. You get a notification as soon as a new test build is available and you are told what to test. Plus you can set-up an email address so testers can email you about bugs or issues with your app. You can now also add groups to various tests so I can have one group testing one version of our app while another group tests another version.

What do you dislike?

You are not told when a test is over or if a newer build is available for public release. Sometimes builds in the App Store are newer than the TestFlight builds because no new test builds were released. There are also no notifications before builds expire so developers know it's time to release a newer build or can end the test.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great way to test future builds of apps. A reminder you must sign-up with the developers in order to test builds. And if testing your own builds, you must publish TestFlight for the first time within iTunes Connect before they will appear and you must at least sign-up your own email address.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We test our own app within TestFlight before we release the app to the public. We recently updated for iPhone X and opened up to a small group who could sign-up to test our latest app before public release.

"Great Product for testing App on iOS only"

What do you like best?

Great integration with iTunes connect and apple developer connection. You can easily send updated of the App to users and it will automatically install them on the device. Testers can also send feedback through the app easily. You can also set a time limit on the pre-released app so when it comes time to release the production version user can switch over to that.

What do you dislike?

The removal of Android was a bit annoying when Apple bought them. This means that for our Android Apps we are having to use another product and can no longer keep them together.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Move to hockey app if you want Android support. But Apple have made it free.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Providing pre-released builds for clients and testers. This can be useful also when needing to gather feedback on the app.

"TestFlight"

What do you like best?

TestFlight is an online service for over-the-air installation and testing of mobile applications, currently owned by Apple Inc and only offered to developers within the iOS Developer Program. Developers signed up with the service to distribute applications to internal or external beta testers, who could subsequently send feedback about the application to developers. The TestFlight SDK additionally allowed developers to receive remote logs, crash reports and tester feedback

What do you dislike?

the only thing I can see that I do not like though not hurt me because I have IOS is that TestFlight initially supported testing of Android and iOS applications, but since March 2014, Apple has retracted support for Android.[8][9] As of 2015, applications must be published for TestFlight using Xcode, and testers must be invited using iTunes Connect

"Streamlines Beta Testing for iOS"

What do you like best?

It makes it easy for me to test beta application releases that are not yet available to the public. It's a free quick install from their website or the App Store. Even there are in-app purchases, they are free to me as a tester. TestFligt can be installed on multiple iOS devices to perform unlimited simultaneous tests from any developer. When providing feedback, valuable information about my device and the app is auto-populated for me to save me some time and allow me to focus solely on my feedback.

What do you dislike?

It can't be used on devices that are not running iOS. It's not available to Android devices either.

Recommendations to others considering the product

TestFlight is the simplest way to test beta applications on iOS devices. It can be used to simultaneously test on up to 10 devices and doesn't require a lot from you as a tester. You don't need to deal with UDIDs or provisioning profiles at all so it streamlines the process. Also, if you currently have the app installed, the beta version will automatically replace the version on your device and you can begin testing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

TestFlight helps developers to fine tune their applications and notice issues that they may have been blind to as the creator or ones they simply didn't think of. TestFlight also helps users to have a better user experience with these applications once released because they have been tested extensively to avoid common issues.

"Great way to test iOS app for public use"

What do you like best?

I've worked on the product testing end of TestFlight and it was great to see our app actually work and be able to navigate as if it were live. Whenever an update was available, TestFlight would send you an e-mail alerting you so you could have the most up to date experience with the app you were developing. Because of the nature of the software, it just supported the app you were using and you didn't have to use it as a portal.

What do you dislike?

Was a difficult process of getting connected with our app and test flight. I remember having to sign up for a couple things and having to click though a lot of e-mails to access the app.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Good for app development

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were able to try the app and make improvements to it's navigation and service.

"Great access to test iOS Apps in development"

What do you like best?

The ease of assigning internal and external alpha and beta testers for application evaluation is great.

What do you dislike?

The iOS app for Test Flight has no administration features. all admin tasks need to be managed via web. iTune Connect app does not support Test Flight admin either.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Please consider that all administration needs to be done in iTunes Connect on the web. Neither the Test Flight app nor the iTunes Connect app allow for administration of internal or external beta testing users or information. Aside from this it is a well rounded product that could use a few improvements just like any other app.

Beta testers get a clear outline of what is to be tested with each build of the app. They can submit reports of issues or other concerns directly by email. This allows you to track the quality testers as well as make the necessary improvements or changes to the app.

Test Flight lets you track which testers are performing tests on which devices. This is another way to identify the good testers and eliminate the less productive beta testers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main problem is the need for beta testers to test all aspects of apps and report any problems in an organized manner. Test Flight allows this to happen is a very smooth way that is directly integrated into iOS. I could not really ask for a better way to do this, but there could always be improvements.

"Easy easy easy beta testing for developers"

What do you like best?

I've been doing iOS development long enough that I know the troubles and hoops you used to have to jump through for beta testing. Test Flight makes it much, much easier. It's not painless, but it is fast and simple.

The things I like the best are that I can add internal testers for beta testing, upload an archive and within an hour have my app in my testers hands all over the world! Usually.

You also get feedback within the iTunes Connect site as far as who has tested it, and you can give them notes on what changed and what to test.

Test Flight can also facilitate external beta testing in the same manner, however you are held to the beta app review process. Practically gone are the headaches of UDID management and calling over the phone to help some poor person who has no idea what a UDID is or how to get this to you.

What do you dislike?

The main things I dislike are sometimes having to sign out of your regular store account for iTunes to use this, or being limited on the numbers of devices a single testing account can be signed in on. However, it is easy enough to remedy these issues and I understand Apple's position on this.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You really don't have an option here with the walled garden!

"Test Flight was awesome product but not anymore since apple took over it "

What do you like best?

Before Apple took over it, It was awesome product and was easy to add/delete new/existing member in the team. It was an email which was required to kick the process.

What do you dislike?

Since Apple took over it, I used it only once in my current project but had to get rid of this because of very confusing UI for adding members (in two group: Internal and external). Internal member again can be of two type: Technical and others. It sends an email of membership to even existing customer and deleting the existing app on tester device.

But I will advise every iOS developer to use test flight before app store submission. Apple recommends the same. Apple validates the build in advance.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use Test Flight to avoid app store rejection but for distribution use third party product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using test flight in current form validates the developer build in advance which helps individual/business to avoid rejection from Apple.

"Simple and reliable!"

What do you like best?

TestFlight makes it very easy to distribute your iOS applications to beta testers on their iOS devices. It is simple for the developer or admin to make applications available on TestFlight and simple for testers to access them. Apps are made available quickly after submitting them for TestFlight. I have not encountered any errors with TestFlight. The service has been easy and reliable.

What do you dislike?

I have no significant complaints with TestFlight. A bit of a distant annoyance in the process of using TestFlight is first setting up beta testers in the Developer iTunes Connect admin panel. I had to return to the panel several times after waiting for testers to click the verification link in their email. It's also a possibility that some testers did not receive notifications from Apple when they were invited to be testers, or that the notifications were delayed, or that the notification email did not make its purpose obvious. I had to reinvite several testers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

TestFlight is a convenient way to beta test your iOS applications. I recommend it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We need to be able to test our software on as many real devices as possible before putting our iOS apps and updates into production. It is great to be able to easily distribute our apps and updates, especially in a way that is very alike the real app store. The closer the testing experience is to a production launch, the more confident we can feel when we do the real thing.

"The best way to share the application build"

What do you like best?

1 ) Test Flight allows classification of testers as internal or external testers.

2 ) Test Flight doesn't require the UDID of the devices in which the application is supposed to be installed. Test flight just need the email id of the testers for sharing the application build to them,

3 ) When an application build is shared to a tester, he/she would be receiving an email notification for the same.

4 ) We can distribute the build to a maximum of 1000 users at a time.

5 ) The installation of test flight application in a device is also very easy.

6 ) The testers can send their feedbacks back to the developers.

7 ) Test Flight also provides a crash log to the developers.

What do you dislike?

Before it was taken over by Apple, we were able to use it for both android and iOS application. And after Apple takes the ownership of Test flight, they limited test flight only for the iOS applications.

Recommendations to others considering the product

And now, the test flight comes with the heavy brand name label "Apple".

So expect the same level of quality as in iOS devices.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use test flight for sharing the build between the team mates as well as the customers.

The end to end users as well as the team mates test the build shared through test flight and figure out the issues before submitting the build to the app store. This helps us in preventing the issues being faced by the end to end users of the application.

"Test Your Apps Immediately Outside the App Store"

What do you like best?

I can quickly demonstrate new features and functions in my IOS apps to my clients. It is easy for my clients to review and approve new changes without having to add the app to the Apple Store.

What do you dislike?

Email notifications to my clients is sporadic and sometimes are not sent via ITunes. This means I have to notify my clients that a new version of the app is available via TestFlight.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Very easy to use. Just archive from Xcode to the Itunes Store . Users love it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This solves the problem of feedback delays from clients when evaluating a new relase of the App.

"Awesome (Free) way to send beta builds to testers! "

What do you like best?

I have been using TestFlight for many years, and now that it has been acquired by Apple, it is tightly integrated in the development and release flow of iOS apps. I like that it is officially owned and developed by Apple themselves. Having TestFight in the same portal that every developer is used to working with (iTunes Connect) is a great addition!

What do you dislike?

There is now some verification required to be made by Apple before releasing beta builds. This might be a blocker for some that might want to look at using Fabric to send out their builds. When TestFlight was their own company, there was no review process, so builds could be sent literally in a matter of seconds (after the set up is complete).

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is great to use FastLane as a proxy to TestFlight. FastLane is an open source too that is great to deploy your app whether it's in beta or production through the command line

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problems we are solving by using TestFlight are very clear. When we develop iOS applications, we need external testers to play with our apps and find bugs that our internal team hasn't been able to find. It is also a great way to show clients the progress made on the app. Having TestFlight enables us to not have to send an archive (.ipa) of the application to each tester, with the provisioning profile containing their phone's UUID.

"Manage Beta Testing with Test Flight"

What do you like best?

The biggest advantage of using Test Flight is that is solves the problem most developers were complaining about, which is UUID (unique device identifiers). With Test Flight, you don't need to deal with UUID or provisioning profiles. Just use their email address and boom! Done.

What do you dislike?

The biggest disadvantage is that its not cross-platform. You'll need to find a different tool if you need to test any platform outside of iOS. Also, only iOS 8 and later are supported. Another thing that I find limiting is that builds are only good for 30 days, after which you must issue a "fix" or an update, eventhough it may not be much of a "fix" to your app.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It supports only 3 builds per day and builds are good for 30 days. If that works for you, then this is an excellent tool!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a good and competent crash reporting service and we are happy to find Test Flight handle that really well. Users needs to opt-in though.

"Easy to view and use apps as a tester"

What do you like best?

When you're user-testing an app on an iOS device, it is extremely easy to use TestFlight to download, install, and work on the app in each new version. It works seamlessly.

What do you dislike?

There is no built-in feedback form to submit feedback to developers. Any kind of feedback from a beta-tester prospective must be done externally. If there was a way to contact developers from within the TestFlight system while beta testing, it would make things go much more smoothly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The benefit of working with the TestFlight system to beta test software is that it puts a fresh set of eyes on any apps a developer is working on to provide valuable feedback to improve the apps.

"Testing in masses"

What do you like best?

With TestFlight our company delivers their digital products to the in-house team as well as to future customers or business partners. Especially the external-testing feature is a big help here. Simply add a persons email address into a list and he/she can already start evaluating our app. Before TestFlight this way of evaluating sometimes was more a bad experience on both parties than a good one.

What do you dislike?

Managing multiple versions of your apps for both internal and external testers is sometimes not convenient. One improvement here would be to provide the test configuration (e.g. what to test) while uploading the new version to Apple. There is an open source solution (fastlane, pilot) out there that provides additional features when uploading new versions but it is not that easy to use and requires to be always up-to-date.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are developing apps for the AppStore market then I suggest to take a look into TestFlight. The earlier you start the earlier your product gets evaluated and tested. Currently, you can add up to 1000 testers for each app. In most case szenarios this should be way more than enough.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have mobile apps which are both in development and production state. To reach our in-house testers and external business partners we provide test versions on a regular basis. With the introduction of TestFlight this is way more easier to accomplish than any solution before.

"A great product that pivoted when acquired by Apple "

What do you like best?

With Test Flight you are able to involve third parties in Beta testing without the complexity of collecting peoples device UUIDs.

What do you dislike?

For testing to happen outside of people with iTunes connect access you must have the app reviewed by Apple making it hard to share work in progress with clients or other externals who will not be hosting the application under their own team.

Since Test Flight has been acquired by Apple however Android testing has been removed causing fragmentation in the tooling that we use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Test Flight - Beta / Bug Testing Made Easy"

What do you like best?

Apple purchased Test Flight as a way to provide app developers a way to get real world testing of their apps before launching them into the wild. I love that Apple has integrated Test Flight into itunes connect which allows us to simply invite members of our internal team and those that have signed up to be beta testers directly from the dashboard.

What do you dislike?

I don't like the internal 25 tester limit. I assume Apple does this so that developers don't abuse the internal option (as those testers get to test an app that doesn't have to be reviewed by the app store staff).

If you're going to build an app testing in the real world is essential. Test Flight is free and should be given a try!

"Was very nice before Apple's acquisition"

What do you like best?

The provisioning was awesome and worked very well before Apple.

What do you dislike?

After Apple acquired, integration with the Xcode development process is a mess (specially for developers that uses Titanium). Also, having to configure it over iTunes connect is a very unoptimized strategy.

"Beta testing before release"

What do you like best?

I love that this app allows you to beta test software before it is released to a wider audience.

What do you dislike?

Due to the software being in a beta format, there are often glitches that occur and it is difficult to decipher whether those are from the app or the software.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend this app to a friend, and others looking for this type of beta testing for large groups. It's a way to get immediate feedback on your software. This will help you prevent unnecessary bugs from rolling out to a much wider audience.

"Solid solution for iOS Testing"

What do you like best?

Test Flight provides the ability to test iOS applications to various test users. A few years back, it was bought by Apple. It used to support both iOS and Android, but now only supports iOS. I'm a mobile iOS developer, so that doesn't affect me but I know that this upset a lot of users. It is now deeply integrated in the Apple ecosystem - therefore you must use Apple Connect and Xcode to use this service. That is both a good and bad thing.

What do you dislike?

I'm all for variety and choice, so I was happy when it was supporting both the Android and iOS platforms. Now that it has been purchased by Apple, it has been locked down to only support iOS.

Test flight is an easy to use solution for iOS developers. It makes it easy and painless for users to test an iOS based solution. Building an email list is relatively easy and can be done quickly.

What do you dislike?

This solution if for iOS solutions that are going to be sold on the Apple store only. Would be nice to see a version that allows for Enterprise iOS deployments. An additional feature that would be useful would be the ability to add Apple users as beta testers. Building your own email list is cumbersome and can take a long time.

"Very useful way for testing"

What do you like best?

Before Test Flight was hardest to test a mobile app, because I need too much time every new release of software. With this product Apple has created the best way for testing a new mobile with reducing the amount of time between any new release.

What do you dislike?

Generally I like test flight, but sometime I receive too much notifications from it so It's not easy understand what are the real problems or what it works correctly. I think that with right configuration should be complex find the right way to use it, but it's important to learn just more bit information about.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely yes. Everyone wants quickly a new app must use it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It saves me from waste time, so i have more time for spending about the development.

"A great solution for distributing an app in testing"

What do you like best?

Makes it easy to distribute our apps in testing. It is easy for our users to accept our invitation, download the app, and also opt-out if they want to.

What do you dislike?

We do not have any negative experiences with Testflight yet.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Distributing our app to our test users - we used to have to install the app on their phone in person, or through a complicated process that required the user to download the app and install it through iTunes on their computer.

"The best way to invite users to test your iOS app"

What do you like best?

TestFlight is perfectly integrated with Apple ecosystem, your build can be uploaded directly from Xcode. you can invite 25 members of your team for test your app internally or up to 2000 external testers.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes is no so fast to distribute prerelease builds of the app.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It works great but you need to wait Apple approval to release the last version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Collect feedback from internal and external testers.

"Works. "

What do you like best?

It's great to be able to have test users beta testing a iOS product before putting it into the apple store. Test Flight works with apple's other developer products like xcode, so although it isn't perfectly straightforward to get it up and running, there is a lot of support and documentation and it is the intended product to use for beta testing.

What do you dislike?

This is more of a complaint for the way adding beta test users is. It's hard to do in general, I don't think crashlytics beta necessarily does it better.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would say you should use it. It's what apple intends developers to use so I expect it will only get easier.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Beta testing iOs apps. Letting a select group of users try a product to give you feedback.

"A great beta experience"

What do you like best?

Its great because you don't have to release your app to the world. instead you can just release it to a limited number of users. People can provide feedback and share their experiences with the developers.

What do you dislike?

I think that their should be a direct way to provide feedback and draw over screenshots to give more details to the developers embedded into the app.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use it!
