"Taking our data platform to the next level!"

What do you like best?

1. API/Connectors to a number of different business systems

2. Easy to use analytical database

3. Great customer support (direct chat, etc.)

What do you dislike?

Does not integrate directly with our BI system (Looker) yet

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Treasure Data is being used as an ETL platform and analytical database across the organization at Silvercar. Treasure Data supports three different business units within the company (our B2C airport car rental business, our B2B dealership hardware/software business and our B2B2C corporate product). At Silvercar we use Treasure Data to ingest data directly from our business systems (GA, AppAnnie, Salesforce, NetSuite, JIRA, etc.) and internal databases (MySQL) to create a data lake and run all our data transformation jobs accordingly. We also use Treasure Data as an analytical database to process our largest jobs.

We choose to use Treasure Data for this process because we can create, manage and schedule these jobs without the need for a data engineer or developer to create these custom scripts for us.

"Treasure Data allowed my team to build quick and flexible big data pipelines"

What do you like best?

Flexible schema on read data storage, quick and robust data ingestion with fluentD and embulk, integratjons with data science tools such as R and Python Pandas, Presto and Hive support and Google tag manager integration to track users behaviour. Great support.

What do you dislike?

Limited support with Python Luigi workflow magement solution, although they offer alternative solution called dig dag which might be even better. Admin dashboard could be improved to see data limits based on existing contract so that you can manage better data ingestion and avoid going above limit. More concrete business cases and mkre technical examples on how to design pipelines in hive or presto would be useful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Big Data pipeline to get insight for the business and generate report in Shiny.

Storing unstructured data which are then pulled using Python Pandas to train and test machine learning solutions used in the company.

Treasure data Google tag manager integration to build marketing attribution models and support product analytics.

"Comprehensive data analytics platform"

What do you like best?

Treasure Data is packaging several powerful open source software very well and providing it with amazing customer support. Their product is easy to use and almost maintenance free, but if I have a problem, their customer support helps me to solve the problem almost 24/7.

What do you dislike?

Since their product is open-source based, their documentation is old or incomplete often times. Also, they are upgrading their system very frequently, but not providing the release note each time. It's fine as long as their change doesn't cause any issues, but once it causes an issue, it's very frustrating to figure out the root cause of the issue without the release note.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Treasure Data is very powerful data analytics platform which is coming with a comprehensive toolset such as data connector, bulk importer, and workflow engine. Also, their customer support is amazing. I highly recommend it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We hit the capacity limit of the relational database and migrated our data analytics platform to Treasure Data. Since Treasure Data is providing tons of data connectors, the migration was smooth. Also, it's super easy to feed more data from 3rd party software such as Zendesk to Treasure Data.

We don't have to have a dedicated data engineer in Analytics team because Treasure Data is almost maintenance free.

"Do it – Find the Treasure in your Data"

What do you like best?

I like the ease and simplicity of storing and accessing vast amounts of data.

What do you dislike?

There's not much to dislike. Only criticism I can offer would be that Presto is often a version or two behind, but that's largely due to how fast the Presto community is developing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Treasure Data is well suited for anyone looking for a managed solution for dealing with massive amounts of data. Trying to roll your own Hadoop/Presto farm takes lots of time and resources, so leveraging a firm who deal with these sorts of things is a no-brainer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're using Treasure Data to store inconceivable amounts of data and building near real time reporting to influence the decision making for our business and our customers. We've been able to offload the massive overhead of data management and focus squarely on our reporting needs.

"Treasure Data Review"

What do you like best?

It saves queries so they can be reused in the future.. The API is pretty fast when downloading relatively sizeable amounts of data.

What do you dislike?

When I'm inspecting a table, and I want to query it, the UI forces me to go through an unnatural path. There should be a button to query a table from the table page (maybe writing a SELECT * FROM table ?).

When I download data through the API, there should be a way to get the names of the columns that are being pulled. In some instances, the tuples have 100+ items, and I've had to download the query in a different way just to get the names of the columns and paste them in the interpreter to build a "dictionary" between indices and columns

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It's our main source for logging. It is also the intermediate step between our production DB and the DB that our less technical users have access to.

"Implemented A Data Lake Repository On The Treasure Data Platform"

What do you like best?

Very easy to get up to speed on the platform, the web interface was simple and easy to use and we were quickly able to leverage our teams existing SQL based skill set without having to know a ton about the underlying HDFS based platform Treasure Data sits on top of. Speed of development was great and built-in connectors for various cloud data sources and destinations were excellent. The ability to write directly to data sets for Tableau Online was a nice feature.

What do you dislike?

The workflow scheduling piece, while very robust was still too code/script heavy for what other integration platforms do easily in a simple UI. The UI will need to improve here to accommodate all the underlying features and functionality that can be implemented via the scripting language. Updating data does not exist as part of the platform features so you just have to know what you want to use the platform for before implementation. This would be a nice feature enhancement.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Time to market for getting data in the hands of users and easily integrating into other platforms to centralize this data in a single place was a huge win for us. The ability to then query across data sets from different source systems at a large scale was great. The performance on very large data sets (billions of rows) was pretty good as well.

"Easy access to cloud data"

What do you like best?

Simple, easy to ingest, access, and distribute data. Tasks that would take multiple engineers have been condensed into one, easy to use service. On top of that, support has been amazing in the 2 years we've been using Treasure Data.

What do you dislike?

Not all third parties are supported, for both ingestion and output. Not a deal-breaker and the TD has been receptive to feedback.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Treasure Data as our data lake. One access point to capture all of our log data has been the biggest benefit. The access to that data via hive/presto has proven to be a huge benefit that we didn't anticipate at the time.

"Treasuring your data without much hassle"

What do you like best?

Data ingestion setup can be done by the analysts themselves without troubling the engineers too much. It forms independent data analysts and fasten our project timeline.

Having knowledge on SQL query is sufficient to create ETL job, and it doesn't require steep learning curve.

What do you dislike?

We still find inconvenience on implementing Treasure Workflow, since at the time we assessed it, we could not define the session schedule time parameter on the config - the value follows the default value at 00:00:00 UTC except we run it manually via CLI and add the parameter. Other than that, we find Treasure Data really useful.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Treasure Data allows your team to integrate data from various source, thus make it easier for analyst to work independently without troubling the engineers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Data integration from various sources, creating master data warehouses and data marts for business users

"Awesome querying tool for tecg"

What do you like best?

Very fast querying large datasets. TD utilizes their unique time parsing of tables to achieve this.

What do you dislike?

Some of the user defined functions are fairly different, especially the date parsing and date operation functions. These might take a little effort to get used to.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have done a lot of user path analysis and event sequence analysis that we're impossible to do in MySQL with the datasets are large as ours. We would had to do a bunch of self joins but the window functions in presto combined with powerful engine made these analysis painless.

"From 0 to analyze in a week"

What do you like best?

Powerful toolbox backed by a solid user support experience and available updated documentation.

What do you dislike?

the lack of advance tags, filtering and search option for queries (database of origin, type of output, output name, custom tags ...)

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you have an exhaustive list of all the required data source to connect and validate the aggregation level supported by each API

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Centralizing and normalizing multiple data stream in a central location while having enough power to run queries in single digit minutes.

"Treasure Data provides a great service for startups with lots of data and analytical needs."

What do you like best?

Having a SaaS distributed analytic engine like Presto available for an affordable price.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the interface can be a bit confusing. The user roles system is a bit messy.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ensure you understand how their data structures work and that they align with your needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have many disparate data sources that we're working with to bring data together to inform better business decisions. The Presto engine has allowed us to automate some pretty intense data queries.

"CTO/CIO Private Equity"

What do you like best?

The main reason we looked into Treasure Data was it's ability to handle extremely large amounts of data well. After speaking with their head of engineering and architecture, I was amazing as to how much knowledge they had regarding the technical capabilities of the TD system.

What do you dislike?

At this time, the only thing that we wish we could have with TD is more flexibility with AWS.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We had a unique problem where we were trying to find a solution which could handle approximately 1M columns and 100B rows of data and TD can handle this.

"Good Product, Good Support, Bad Account Management"

What do you like best?

the platform and the features that has been developed

What do you dislike?

After the account manager has changed, I rarely got answers from them whenever I asked questions. Probably because we are small customer, however I just need as simple answer as "yes" or "no" (we are not pushing to develop some features, just want to explore every possibilities that we could have with this platform) but then what I got is just "hold on we will come back to you" and yet never comeback with any answers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

big data platform management, analytics and business intelligence, Extract Transform Load . I realized that those things are hard to tackle by ourselves so we decided to get help from third party that has a lot of capabilities

"Treasure your Data - like Treasure Data"

What do you like best?

The team at Treasure Data is incredibly responsive to requests and provides expert advice on how best to leverage their product/service offering, making the implementation smooth.

What do you dislike?

It would be quite helpful if a request could be prioritized; API requests stay at the front of the queue while web UI requests can be pushed back.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We leverage Treasure Data to store large volumes of unstructured data. Using a provider to handle this peice of infrastructure allows our engineers to focus on improving our product offerings instead.

"Great Service"

What do you like best?

Abstracts out all the complexities of maintaining a data warehouse and makes it easy for any developer to conduct data analysis.

What do you dislike?

Queries can sometimes be too slow, and sometimes there is lack of transparency about issues going on that may result in slow performance.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it as a data warehouse for all of our data needs such as product feature analysis. We have been able to conduct rapid prototyping and A/B testing powered by TD.

"Decent out of the box solution, but benefits degrade as table size grows"

What do you like best?

The ease of set-up and how the data flows in almost live.

What do you dislike?

Querying data on large table takes forever, plus everything flows into one table, which expands indefinitely and data cannot be archived or table shrunk in any way.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Decent for companies with small to medium data tables.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Getting event level data from our mobile games.

"Great technology to get an ETL pipeline up and running quickly"

What do you like best?

The flexibility and power of the platform

What do you dislike?

Ease of misuse if used improperly. Its easy to clog your job queue if you are using up your workers on calculation queries rather than exporting the raw to your warehouse and querying it there. Still trying to retrain team-members on this concept >.<

Recommendations to others considering the product

TD is best used an ETL pipeline not a scheduled query interface. Export results to a warehousing database for scheduled queries or you will clog your job pipeline

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

ETL pipeline for real-time analytics data
