Eh.

What do you like best?

I have used Tumblr to post artwork for around five years, and it is fairly easy to build up a following there so long as you post things that are popular. People tend to interact with posts a lot more than on other websites (particularly with leaving tags on things giving their thoughts on whatever it is you posted, whether positive or constructive criticism).

What do you dislike?

Tumblr has a whole lot of drama that probably isn't worth it to the average company. Its users have a unique sense of humor that, unless you (like me) are a millennial who is well acquainted with that kind of humor, can be confusing and prohibitive to gaining any following on Tumblr.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tumblr is my main source to post my artwork. Unlike other websites such as Twitter and Facebook, it has no expectation of being social as well if you only use it for art — meaning you can post artwork whenever you complete a piece and then dedicate the rest of your time elsewhere.

I love tumblr! Great API and flexibility

What do you like best?

Tumblr has an absolutely massive community. For starting a new blog and sustaining and old one, tumblr makes a lot of sense. You can get absolutely absurd reach with even just a few hundred followers. I love using Tumblr to run my blog New Old Stock, and I use IFTTT to queue up posts.

What do you dislike?

It is impossible to customize themes. Theme customization and working on the front end leaves so much to be desired. Luckily the API is really strong and easy to use. I built out a simple front end in a half hour using React because theme customization was such headache.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Tumblr has a huge community and tons of free themes to get you up and running quickly. Don't waste time building a massive custom wordpress theme if all you need is a simple place to post photos or journal entries. Tumblr gives you a somewhat unique URL and you can customize a ton of stuff out of the box.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm trying to grow a big community and following. Tumblr was perfect for that. My starter theme got me up and running.

Tumblr Makes it Easy to Have a Blog

What do you like best?

Tumblr has an easy interface and it is easy to sign up. One does not have to be an expert in coding and design to have a beautiful blog. This would be easy to have a blog about your business or office and quickly share it to others to promote your office or business.

What do you dislike?

Be aware that much of Tumblr is used for people's personal accounts and thus there can be lots of non-business like information and pictures on the Tumblr site (i.e. not safe for work photos on some Tumblr blog sites).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be aware of all the social media site, Tumblr is one of the least popular but it is still very popular. It is not unheard of but it is not nearly as popular as Facebook or Instagram. It is pretty easy to use and one could quickly develop the site/blog they want.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tumblr is mostly used for people's personal accounts and is not often used as a business platform (think of Facebook 'Pages'). This does make it difficult to get a business set up on the site but if the business or office uses Instagram or Facebook and those are successful, the business could also use Tumblr to quickly write blogs and post photos for their customers/clients to see.

Simple, easy, but falling behind

What do you like best?

Super easy. You can be up and running with your own 'blog' very quickly.

Custom URLs are not too hard to do.

I suggest Tumblr to my friends who want to start a blog, but don't want to get to deep into issues like hosting, software, updates, etc.

A few tech blogs use Tumblr as their blogging solution.

What do you dislike?

Tumblr is lagging in features. You can add popups, or lead capture pages. You can't add any plugins at all. The API is pretty good, but not many people are building cool things with it.

It is very easy to do a few clicks and end up in the darker corners of the internet on Tumblr.

And it is REALLY hard to generate an audience on Tumblr. Anyone participating on Instagram can gain a few hundred followers, Tumblr you can participate the same amount and have no followers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great easy way to get started. If you want to add any functionality, you will have to move away from Tumblr.

For example, if you want someone to enter their email address to get a coupon, this will be very hard to do in Tumblr, while you could easily add a plugin on Wordpress.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

If you need an easy blog, you can use Tumblr. If you get the right skin and a custom URL people won't even know it is Tumblr if not for the reblog or follow floating button that Tumblr places everywhere.

Quick blogging tool that has relevance

What do you like best?

I like that you can customize your Tumblr page quickly and get something posted without having to do a lot of formatting. It's a powerful tool to get you started with your blog.

What do you dislike?

I do not like the process of switching from the editing mode to the WYSIWYG mode. They seem to be too different. I also thought that there would be more free templates.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take a tutorial on how to use it so you don't get too far along in building your pages and then find that you have to go backwards and rebuild.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I needed a way to get a blog up and running quickly and inexpensively and this was the perfect product for that.

Good platform

What do you like best?

It's easy to use and I like the big photos that I can post, and videos etc.

What do you dislike?

I find it a bit difficult to remember how to do certain things - there seem to be too many options of screens or something.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are trying to increase our SEO. We haven't noticed any differences as yet.....
