What do you like best?
I have used UltraEdit for several years at my job in aerospace engineering.
We use it for SW engineering, to write code, review code, ensure compliance with issues like internal references to copyright statements and embedded serial numbers.
This tool is nice because it's very straight-forward. You do not have to do any background learning prior to using the tool.
In addition, it is great to use on a multitude of file types.
We also appreciate the ability to bulk open in addition to the bulk search options. This saves a lot of time when ensuring compliance.
I also appreciate the interface & how the tool uses different color indications when it recognizes commands, etc.
What do you dislike?
The tool interface does appear slightly dated, but this is to be expected when you want to keep it simple & universal.
I have not have direct problems with the tool, it has always met my immediate needs without much complaint.
Recommendations to others considering the product
This is a great free tool that is easy to use and conveniently offers a lot of valuable features and options.
It is easy to download and dive right in, but also allows a lot of super user type options throughout, with extended use.
We have not found any problems that I can reiterate here thus far and have used it for years.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
As mentioned above, we are able to use this tool for fast & easy bulk editing, bulk file opening, and bulk search options. This is especially valuable in a commercial engineering code environment where different costumers often have varied and complicated compliance requirements.
This tool is also valuable from a quality audit perspective, for these same reasons.
This tool offers everything that standard text editors offer, in a convenient, free package. But it also offers a lot of engineering specific recognition that is highly valuable.
