"Spectrum - Simply the best."

What do you like best?

We converted to Spectrum from MAS90, we needed a software with job costing and a service module. Spectrum has not disappointed. User friendly. The help files are a click away. The document imaging is a plus! We have been able to go paperless! The custom report writing options are endless. All of our employees enter their time through the Employee Kiosk directly to a job or work order which flows into the payroll module. They also can pull their direct deposit stubs and yearly tax statement. Plus, all the outside vendors that integrate with the software. Definitely worth the money spent.

What do you dislike?

The lack of a good project management module. You can purchase outside of Spectrum, with integration but it will cost you. Sometimes it can be difficult to fix an issue but customer service is 100%.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A true GAAP system. Good custom report writing. You can go paperless! A good cloud based software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

No more paper service tickets! PMs have a better handle on their jobs. We now have an invoice approval process, too. The ease the information flows between the modules.

"The Full Spectrum"

What do you like best?

I moved to Spectrum from Timberline, and from an accounting point of view, the difference is leaps and bounds. There are certain things that are more constraining in Spectrum than in Timberline, but overall I would prefer a more rigid program that actually works like it's supposed to, as opposed to a program that frequently decides that it doesn't NEED to post things properly to the GL.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that I have to exit completely out of an invoice entry function if I have made an error with the vendor or invoice number (something that is extremely easy to do when you are processing higher volumes).

Recommendations to others considering the product

I strongly recommend looking seriously at the Spectrum software. It can be overwhelming at first, but it is very easy to pick up, and as long as you know what you want the system to do, it will be able to do it for you. We still have a little ways to go to tweak it right to our requirements, but as we've grown our team, getting new colleagues up to speed on Spectrum has been a very easy aspect.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The benefits of Spectrum are having both costing & accounting modules that work the same way, with the same general outlines. We're able to train our on-site admin staff very easily to complete entry-level tasks that alleviate some of the pressure on our head office team.

"Good construction based accounting software"

What do you like best?

I appreciate how the software is constantly being improved upon and that the developers take into consideration the feed back of the users. I have had a great relationship with the sales people and they are quick to respond with any questions.

What do you dislike?

The program has a steep learning curve, it at times doesn't seem to be that intuitive and until you have learnt the unique quirks of the program it can be difficult to get the information you wanted. I have not been overly impressed with the training at times as it seems like they are just reading from a tutorial and not actually well versed in the programs usage. I have had better success using the tutorials myself and not bothering with the actual training,.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend Spectrum to other users but at the same time they should be prepared for a steep learning curve. The benefits won't be realized immediately but this is true with any system conversion.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We switched from Sage 50 to Spectrum so we could have better job costing and reports available to us. Another key feature was the online approvals system which allows us to better operate our multiple sites from the head office.

"Powerful software package"

What do you like best?

The software is user friendly. There are help menus if you're unsure how to enter something or which report options to select. One of the nice features is the ability to save your selections so you don't have to remember the details of each report you run. Get the report the way you want, set the defaults and move on. The program is constantly updated. Not just with the latest tax tables, but with additional features. Document imaging is worth it's weight in gold. We hardly print any reports. They're all archived in the system. Very handy for someone like myself who works from home at odd hours!

What do you dislike?

My only dislike is that the program can get pricey. There's a certain fee for the core module and additional fees for other modules that are quite necessary to efficiently operate the business. Then there are additional modules that aren't necessary, but definitely cost or time-saving that work well with the core modules.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've used Spectrum for over 10 years. The information that is readily available in a variety of reports has made a huge difference. The project managers can see job cost compared to estimates, open purchase orders or jobs with unbilled retainage.

"Great Accounting Construction Software"

What do you like best?

Great software for analyzing data and trends while still being pretty easy to use. The ability to create custom infolink reports enable you to create virtually report using the data you have in Spectrum that will auto refresh with just one click of a button.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was a way to sort the canned Spectrum reports a bit easier. I am quite comfortable using infolink, so it is easy for me to create a quick variation of the Spectrum reports, formatted the way I want it to look. But unless you have knowledge of infolink, there is no way to easily rearrange Spectrum reports to show the data in the way you want it

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use PowerTrack in the field for time collection which integrates with Spectrum. Iit's nice that jobs/phases added in Spectrum are synced multiple times a day to PowerTrack so there is no need to manually give employees access to phases anymore. Huge time saver

"One Stop Accounting"

What do you like best?

In construction, capturing data from the field to the office is vital. With the Payroll module integrating with Procore and the HR module tracking all personnel items (i.e. training, drug screen results, injuries etc) we can truly pull any report or information with a few key strokes.

What do you dislike?

When using Manual Credit Card Payment Entry, the system automatically takes any discount indicated even if I'm paying after the due date and the discount is not valid. I have to manually enter a zero, and then re-enter the total invoice amount to get it fully paid. This is time consuming when paying many invoices.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are starting to track all of our training records in the HR module, and developing a customized report to give us information particular to specific jobsites and required training so we can place the correct employees with that site.

"Spectrum Gets the Job Done"

What do you like best?

The web-based application that allows you to have multiple tabs open. Very helpful when in the middle of a process and someone has a question you don't have to get out of your work. User friendly and has the ability for our IT group to write and implement specific reports for our organization using crystal reports.

What do you dislike?

The lack of a good quality project management module without having to use an outside source. Some of the aspects do not work in Chrome or vice versa in Explorer. Other than that, no complaints!

This is a great program with the best customer support when needed, however, that need is dwindling with the great programs and updates provided.

The benefits have been great in the accountability of work processes and being able to get the field the information they need quickly.

"Perfect for the Job Costing Company! Highly Recommended"

What do you like best?

Spectrum has job costing and is easy to use. The in-software filing system is unmatched.

What do you dislike?

Mistakes can be difficult to fix, however Spectrum support is wonderful to work with.

Don't be overwhelmed by the installation and building of your software. It's a true GAAP software. QuickBooks and other software applications allow you to make changes easily. Spectrum does require a process and that's a good thing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our biggest business problem we are solving with Spectrum is the ability to job cost and analyze costs associated with jobs. Being able to drill down into labor, equipment, material, subcontractors, etc. has been educational. We are able to see a seamless workflow from module to module/department to department. It has given us great data for operational decision making - from purchasing new vehicles/selling vehicles to working in different locations to moving forward with new work. One of the greatest benefits has been having all of the departments using one software, which leaves less room for error and less transactions to enter/process in multiple systems. Another great benefit is ease of use. We have 450 users of the software - from employees just checking their pay/hour information in the Employee Kiosk to employees who are using the software daily for billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, etc. Spectrum is setup as a filing system, which was one of the deciding factors in the purchase of the software. The scanned in documents has been one of the greatest assets so far. Being able to have information readily at your fingertips is important. It allows us to provide information, make decisions, and see what we need more timely. All around, Spectrum is a software packed with great tools for any person in any department. I highly recommend this software to any company who is looking for more comprehensive data, increased information at its fingertips, and a stronger workflow between departments.

"A step in the right direction"

What do you like best?

This upgrade was much needed for our growing companies. The document imaging has been by far the best feature and has improved our efficiency. No more running around searching for paper documents. The user interface is great on the dashboard, being able to setup the summary/snapshot of data you need to see upon login - i.e. receivable aging, negative cash flow jobs, etc.

What do you dislike?

We bought this software to be able to integrate easier with project management, the shop and field personnel, instead of merely using a software for accounting purposes. We are still struggling with implementing this to those outside accounting. Undoubtedly, this is not solely the software's issue. The dislike stems from how cumbersome it is to setup any module and those outside of accounting don't see the value is spending that much time to get it setup right from the start.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to spend the time during implementation to set the software up correctly. Put a team together and take the time to make decisions on how to best utilize the software. Make a priority list of modules and follow through with the 2nd and 3rd round of module implementations. If you try to do all modules at once, it will be overwhelming.

We have been successful in getting some project managers more engaged in timely information.

Additionally, the amount of time saved by having information scanned and stored in the system is wonderful.

"One of the best ERP systems I have been on"

What do you like best?

I think the best thing I like about Spectrum would be the speed and the ease of use. Spectrum is the fastest system I have used, I no longer need to sit and wait for reports it is definitely a time saver.

What do you dislike?

There is really very little I dislike about it. If I had to say something I guess I would say the AR process when having to revise invoices, you can't revise invoices at all really, you need to reverse the original draw which then creates a credit memo you need to apply to the original invoice and then just start over with the new revised invoice you need to create. You can't keep invoice #'s and or invoice dates. Kind of stinks.

We used to be on the slowest system ever, so I guess we have sped things up quite a bit and we are no longer on two separate systems, all of us are in Spectrum and it has really helped our field employees and our project managers have more access to information.

"User friendly cloud based software"

What do you like best?

I like that the software is very user friendly and, being cloud based, it is accessible anywhere you have an internet connection. I also love the document imaging function which allows us to reduce the amount of paper files we need to save.

What do you dislike?

I wish the software had more "canned" reports available. It can be frustrating writing custom reports to get the information you want in the format you need it.

The cloud based program helps us to bring together employees working in different locations. That, plus the document imaging capability, allows us to access information whenever & wherever we need it, even out in the field.

"Straight forward construction software"

What do you like best?

The ease of use is awesome! Entering data, attaching supporting detail, and running reports are done quickly.

What do you dislike?

The invoice approval function is bittersweet. It is convenient to have management approve invoices online. However, when changes need to be made, the process is a bit time consuming. If the invoice is in an unapproved/unposted status, you should be able to change the original invoice instead of creating offsetting invoices to reflect the change.

This module based software is easy to use and has capability of designing reports for your specific needs. The support team is very helpful in answering any questions.

We are able to accurately capture our job costs with Spectrum. The functionality of the job cost module works great for our business. We are also utlizing the equipment module in more depth to get a better overall grasp of what assets we have.

"Spectrum Web Services."

What do you like best?

Spectrum has a great core software but also gives you the ability to make the software work for you. The ability to bring information into the system with Web services has been invaluable for our company and has allowed us to integrate our job cost software eliminating a number of double entries.

What do you dislike?

Accounts receivable data is not date specific. It would be nice to be able to have a cutoff with Accounts Receivable to run a report for a certain date as we have in other modules. This is always a challenge when going through our yearly audit.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With the ability to use the web services to bring data back and forth with our job cost software has help streamlined our business. We are able to have a better understanding of where our projects are at.

"Overall Good Software"

What do you like best?

Viewpoint seems to be working on their software a lot and keeping up with industry trends and there are some core pieces of the software that make it really valuable (job cost, job and GL analysis, etc.).

What do you dislike?

Users locking tables when working on data in the system can be a major issue. It seems like Spectrum has been improving a lot on the backbones that they built the system on and need to replace what it was built on to be able to truly move things forward.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The company I've worked for has been using spectrum for decades. It works for what we need it to do. It's nimble enough to allow us to change thing when needed, but still handles everything we ask of it without too many issues.

"Spectrum Review"

What do you like best?

I love the many different module options to choose from. There really isn't much that the software can't do. It covers all of the basic needs of our company and then some.

What do you dislike?

Spectrum has a pretty good built-in equipment and preventive maintenance module already. However, it seems that the developers don't pay as much attention to these modules during updates as other modules. I'd like to see a couple of things improved in these modules, but it seems like they've been the same for years.

Spectrum has really solved reporting problems within our company. The number of stock reports, as well as customized reports, has allowed our company to better communicate with one another and to send the right information to the right people in a timely manner.

"Spectrum Software"

What do you like best?

The ability to export information so that it can be tailored for various users. The ability to do queries is very helpful when analyzing information. The Spectrum team has been great to work with as they are able to solve any issues that arrive in a timely manner.

What do you dislike?

That we cannot charge equipment direct to a work order. We are also not able to charge salaried time direct to a work order. Currently are doing work around to get these costs where they need to be.

"Great all around software"

What do you like best?

This software has allowed our project management group and accounting group to integrate data for a better real time view of how our projects are progressing. Data is accurate and easily accessible. Reports are easy to customize so we are able to see exactly what we want.

What do you dislike?

Some area have some quirks that you just have to get used to.

"Great Software"

What do you like best?

The fact I can get real time cost on projects and I can enter payroll on daily basis. The amount of information that I can pull from Spectrum is amazing. Being able to access the system regardless of where i am located is also a huge plus.

What do you dislike?

I wish I could have the system pull Quarterly reports already of the approved from either the federal or state. The same goes for the certified reports, we have to retype all of the information on to the approved forms.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Not forgetting about change orders, logging them directly into the jobs and sending along the report with the bills each month gets us to collect on them faster.

"Love Spectrum/Viewpoint "

What do you like best?

I can find anything with a touch of only a few buttons - need the invoice - got it - need a copy of the quote - got it. We use the document tracking to track everything - no check goes out of the building without the proper paperwork being turned in. Contact - I love that there are so many options - I can put multiple people, addresses, phone number, direct numbers and misc. information

What do you dislike?

I would like there to be options to change column names there are some columns I would like to see and some that I wish I didn't see on the purchase order main screen and the purchase order entry screen. I also don't like on the document tracking when somebody changes the information it should automatically put their initials and a new date when the change was made not keep the old information

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I think we have only begun - we are beginning to integrate with the field and their cell phone aps - unfortunately right now this is thru a 3rd party

"Specialty Contractor uses Spectrum Software"

What do you like best?

I'm a project accountant and this software is great for processing our weekly union payrolls, handling A/P and tracking A/R.

What do you dislike?

Just minor things - like when reviewing the cost code details in Pre-Time Card entry, the columns I need to see are not visible unless I move the columns around, but Spectrum doesn't have a way to save my preferences. It works in other modules.

Overall, this is excellent software for our specialty subcontracting company.

The Weekly Job Cost reports are such a valuable tool for the Project Managers and upper management. Our Operations review their reports to spot trends on their projects and make adjustments quickly to keep projects on track.

What do you like best?

Spectrum covers all aspects of our accounting needs with its wide reaching, well developed platform

What do you dislike?

It can be clunky due to all of its options- some items don't let you delete even if its a true need. It can be confusing for new hires to navigate due to all the different levels.

"Strong Software"

What do you like best?

Spectrum is a powerful tool for reporting costs with the extremely strong ability to measure almost any factor one can imagine.

What do you dislike?

I dislike some intercompany functionality as well as the AR invoicing/invoices.

Not necessarily built for spec homes. Evaluate pros and cons first - can be a powerful software.

"Accounting supervisor"

What do you like best?

No software solution satisfies every need of every company, but Spectrum is very diversified and gave us the Construction and Service support that we need. Spectrum is very user-friendly and intuitive. And once you bring up a record, the Infobar gives you easy access to nearly everything you might want to know related to that record.

What do you dislike?

There is always room for improvement, and Spectrum does offer frequent updates. We would like to see some upgrades to the Inventory module, including simplification of the Physical Inventory process.

Document Imaging and the ease of data-recall have been very useful.

"Best Construction AP Software"

What do you like best?

I love how user friendly Spectrum is and how easy it is to find something if I need to. Essentially I feel like it is dummy proof for me.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that when you are in a job or subcontract that the tab you are in doesn't tell you at the top the subcontract or job number, it just tells you what area you are in.

I have realized that it solves all my AP problems when it come to knowing whether a job is complete or not. It makes it simple to see if something is complete or not.

What do you like best?

The API capabilities, the SQL platform, and the fact that its web based.

What do you dislike?

Leftover shrapnel from its growth path. Fix that and it gets a 10.

Don't just add onto your old processes and ways of doing things. Use the opportunity to find the best way. You will definitely recognize efficiencies if you do.

"All-inclusive Construction ERP"

What do you like best?

Spectrum will meet or exceed your every need from accounting to project management.

What do you dislike?

Document imaging doesn't seem to operate as fast as it should. The images tend to take a minute to load, and sometimes appear glitchy.

"Spectrum has been amazing."

What do you like best?

I like that Spectrum is user-friendly and easy to navigate. Being able to favorite tabs, makes getting things done a lot quicker.

What do you dislike?

One thing I dislike is that there is no search bar. So, if you are unsure about where to find a specific "entry" or "inquiry" tab, it can be difficult to find.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Spectrum to cross-check incoming invoices and vendor statements with those on file to ensure we have everything squared away. One major benefit is being able to reconcile our bank through Spectrum; saves a great deal of time.

What do you like best?

I love how integrated the software is from operations, management and accounting.

It is not friendly with mistakes, they have to be "rewound" and then re-entered.

I like the speed probably the most, you can pretty much pull a report with tons of data and it will be loaded and ready in less than a minute.

What do you dislike?

Maybe the depth? It seems as if it has many layers with isn't necessarily a negative thing, it just means you have more to learn and understand.

We had a lot of papers going around the office in file folders waiting on PM approval and such, now we have gone paperless and everything is moving simply in smoothly.

"First experience with an Accounting Software and impressed with ease of use."

What do you like best?

Spectrum was the first Accounting Software I have used and I am impressed with how easy it is to use.

What do you dislike?

There are some quirks with different reports. For example I have noticed some differences from what the data tells me in a Spectrum screen vs. what comes out on the Contract Status Report.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Spectrum for all different business problems. One of those problems I deal with day to day is using the AR Aging Report and tracking down payment from our Customers.

"User friendly, and easy to pull reports."

What do you like best?

Lots of reports available! Home screen is able to be customized in a variety of ways. Great for storing client and vendor information and creating AR/AP documents, like invoices, Change Orders, and CTC estimates.

What do you dislike?

A little challenging to navigate at times; hard to find the exact screen you need for certain tasks.

"Solid Software with Good Support Staff"

What do you like best?

The support team is very easy to work with and able to answer most low level questions right away. Higher level questions may require a call back but is typically resolved in a timely manner.

What do you dislike?

Unfortunately at this time while the platform is browser-based, it does not have a great experience on a mobile device without the use of additional mobile modules.

The various accounting modules tie together well and provide some good reporting options.

"user friendly"

What do you like best?

It is easy to manuever around in and find what you are looking for. Images are attached to almost all aspects. Easy to track invoices.

What do you dislike?

Once an invoice is rejected the image disappears. This would be a crucial part of our research.

I do statement reconciliation so it is great for finding when invoices are paid and what hasn't been. If there is an issue it is read for them to put notes into.

"Decent Construction Accounting Software"

What do you like best?

I like that the developers seem to listen to feedback and are constantly making improvements and upgrades.

What do you dislike?

I wish that the software was more intuitive. There is a steep learning curve at the front

the integrated platform easily accessible via web browser to work from anywhere with imaging, and continual upgrades to improve usability

I like that spectrum is always changing to make improvements to their system to keep up with the ever changing industries.

There are not many things that I dislike about Spectrum. All of the issues I've had in the past have improved upon so they are no longer a problem.

The level of restriction you can create.

Integration isn't fully ready yet but the functionality across the board is still stellar without it.

"Great paperless program"

It is accessible to everyone anywhere. The real time data helps people stay on track with the projects and employee hours.

"Easy, user friendly programming. "

What do you like best?

I like that there is a clean, straight-forward layout of this software. Placement and subfolders of this program make sense, which makes it easy to navigate, there are all sorts of ways to customize reports and scanning and saving down documentation in bulk was easy.

What do you dislike?

The program is pretty slow or there servers were often down. That lag time affected us a great deal when trying to be timely in our tasks; quite frustrating.

Centralizing our employee, project and accounting information and having easy software to create detail, custom reports. Spectrum was especially helpful during audits.

"Easy Peasy"

What do you like best?

I like all the shortcuts you can create to get to where you need to go.

What do you dislike?

Very Little. There is some times too many spots for information we do not use for things like entering invoices.

We have enabled ourselves to better control the Accounts Payable process by using Spectrum. We operate over a large land area and Spectrum has enabled better control of more remote areas.

Spectrum has so many different uses that it makes everything about my job so much easier. The reporting you can pull in numerous different ways also gives you great insight on projects.
