"Great tool for managing volunteer across several locations."

What do you like best?

It is very advantageous to our organization that volunteers access to their own volunteer portal to manage their own schedule and hour tracking. We do not have to worry about getting in contact with individuals in order to build a schedule. We create listings and volunteers are responsible for signing up. Also, when they have served, we do not ask them to sign in and out. They are also responsible for logging into their portal and logging their own hours.

What do you dislike?

We piloted the use of Volgistics within one department of our institution and are trying to roll it out to additional departments. Some of the features are not conducive to use by multiple departments, each with unique needs. We may need to begin a whole separate subscription.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Requires a little bit of time investment in the beginning for users with no database experience. However, even inexperienced admins can probably figure out set-up thanks to the elaborate help tutorials and videos.

This is a great tool that has enabled great success for our new volunteer program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tedious data entry and scheduling has been eliminated! We created this great informative resource in a a volunteer portal for our volunteers so we no longer have to wrangle schedules and ensure coverage at multiple sites for multiple positions. Volunteers log in, see open shifts and sign themselves up!

Also, we are able to share links to position-related resources in this portal so it's basically a nice landing platform to send our volunteers for most things.

It is also very easy for volunteers to use. We demonstrate a brief training and orientation for how to use it as a volunteer and they seem to grasp it pretty quickly.

"Helpful in managing volunteer program - limited support available "

What do you like best?

We have 2,000+ volunteers a year at our organization and Volgistics has helped us in managing those relationships fairly seamlessly. The database is pretty easy to use and update as needed. Before signing up with Volgistics we did research many options available and Volgistics seemed to be the best fit for what was available.

What do you dislike?

The reporting capabilities are so-so and contacting support is practically impossible. We have had multiple occasions where we really need to be walked through a major issue and we either get no response or one many days later.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a decent database for managing volunteers. It definitely gets the job done but doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles and the support is really lacking. Many of our other databases have phone numbers and chat features. Volgistics only has an email option which really isn't that helpful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Managing such a large number of volunteers without a database is practically impossible. It has been nice to be able to easily communicate with and schedule so many volunteers at our agency! We have opportunities available 24-7 and with only one staff person managing the volunteer program the database has been such a huge help.

"Fabulous for Tracking Hundreds of Volunteers"

What do you like best?

Volgistics allows me to communicate easily and quickly with current and potential volunteers. I can also track their training, volunteer assignments, how active they are, etc. VicNet give them access to a personal account where they can update contact info, view their service, schedule themselves to volunteer, and even enter volunteer hours done from home or off-site.

What do you dislike?

There is just SO much to do and learn, even with the extensive and helpful resources they provide I sometimes feel overwhelmed. I learned the most when someone who is more experienced with Volgistics was able to teach me in person.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be prepared to commit some time to learning the ins and outs, but if you do, you'll love it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Most of all it saves time. I can email all 900 currently active volunteers at once, tag multiple volunteers who just took a class and give them all new assignments based on what they learned, etc. I have more time for other things and I can feel confident everything is organized!

"Love the ease of use, management of volunteer records!"

What do you like best?

Volgistics helped my organization move away from paper files and applications and into the digital space, providing us with a concise, easy to use, powerful volunteer database.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes a little clunky to use and there is a learning curve, but the help videos are useful. Other than the videos and articles, support doesn't seem to be readily available. Can sometimes take quite some time (more than two days) to hear back from support when we have a questions about how to use Volgistics in a particular way. Reporting capabilities are fine for our purposes, but could be more powerful and can sometimes be tricky - we have had to play around with the settings to get the information we actually want.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have used Volgistics to move away from paper files and applications for our volunteers, keep detailed notes on interactions and incidents that have occurred with our volunteers, and have been able to better handle the flow of onboarding volunteers. With Volgistics, we have streamlined our administrative work and been able to accomplish more with less - most notably, we have been able to eliminate much of our departmental data entry, and are in the process of exploring new ways that we can use Volgistics.

It's also very easy for our volunteers to use. Can demonstrate once and everyone seems to pick up on how to do it very quickly after.

"Mostly positive review for volgisitics"

What do you like best?

I like the ability to make an online volunteer application and have all of the information available and searchable. If I need a lunch volunteer, I can create a list for people who are interested in lunch volunteering.

What do you dislike?

It is difficult to use it for volunteer scheduling because volunteers MUST have an application filed. I also wish I could just search based on scheduling or interests through a search bar and not have to make a whole set for it. It takes up a lot of time to make it work to it's full capacity.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This product is especially great if you have volunteers interested in downloading an app or receiving text alerts about their scheduling. If they will appreciate digital sign in forms and their own personal account, this software is for you.

This has helped me to cut down on paper filing and have everything available electronically and without the extra hassle of data entry.

"good alternative for volunteer software"

What do you like best?

I like that you are able to schedule volunteers and that volunteers have their own website where they can go on and log hours m. I also like that you can export reports into excel easily.

What do you dislike?

I dislike they way that hours can be entered. An upload form is greatly needed for this program. It is a lot of work for a larger volunteer organization to get all the hours entered. They have a way to “post” hours but a batch upload would be much easier and take a lot less time. Volhistics also needs a more appealing interface. The website is just not that eye catching.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is great for smaller volunteer operations that record hours. The way to record hours is cumbersome and takes a lot of time and work. The website also is not as attractive and not as modern as other options.

This helps with scheduling and volunteers being able to schedule themselves. We were not able to do that before.

"Powerful Volunteer Management Tool"

What do you like best?

Powerful data tracking based on volunteer activity as well as insight volunteer administrators would have to mark on individuals' files. Reports it can pull are incredibly detailed--including the ability to assign service values in a dollar amount to the various volunteer positions and tasks you have volunteers do.

I even use it to email all my volunteers at once, rather than vertical response or any other listserv. It allows me to create simple emails with a company logo and signature, attachments, functional hyperlinks, and more.

Volunteers can log their hours autonomously, so volunteer coordinators can spend more time actively recruiting & training valuable volunteers and less time doing data entry.

What do you dislike?

There are SO many features that the learning curve is very steep. Not all features will seem relevant at first and you won't use them until you realize the power they can have on your process and data.

I still can't automate the logging of volunteer hours for certain volunteers who predate our use of Volgistics and refuse to manage their profiles, and its often the volunteers who are most active, so that creates a frustrating amount of data entry each month to log their hours. More of a practical/real world problem than fault of the software, but it would make a great feature to add for a limited number of volunteers who won't self-manage.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our organization is able to accurately report on the impact of our volunteer corps. We now know that in the last year we have been served by over 1500 individual (unduplicated) volunteers, where as for years we only knew the number of volunteer visits, but not the aggregate of all volunteers that visited our sites in groups and individually.

"Coordinating Mission Volunteers Using Volgistics"

What do you like best?

I like the ability to be able to have volunteers fill out an online application, which creates a user file in the system and eliminates our need to store paper files on each volunteer.

What do you dislike?

I would like it to integrate with our donor management software, DonorPerfect Online, since there is quite a bit of overlap between volunteers and donors. I'd like to be able to track communication with volunteers using just one system, rather than having to use two.

I recommend this software to anyone who has to manage a large number of volunteers, as I do.

It's allowed us to streamline our volunteer sign-up process and better track volunteer service.

"Volgistics- great for volunteer management!"

What do you like best?

The system is very intuitive, and setup is extremely easy.

What do you dislike?

Does not connect to Donor CRMs, so relationship management across-organization is difficult.

What do you like best?

Volgistics is extremely easy to use and helps a non-profit organization effectively track their volunteers.

What do you dislike?

Honestly? There wasn't anything I didn't like about the software.

"Good volunteer management software"

What do you like best?

It has just the right amount of customization available. Any more so and it would get increasing complex and more difficult to use.

What do you dislike?

You can't have more than one screen open at a time. For much of what I do, it's often best to be able to refer to data on another screen. In Volgistics, only one window can be open at a time.

It's very functional and relatively cost effective.

"Phenomenal Software for Volunteer Management "

What do you like best?

I loved the ease of scheduling my volunteers and my volunteers loved the ease of tracking their hours.

What do you dislike?

There was limited support available when needed.

Volgistics is an exceptional program. My organization had over 300 volunteers a year and Volgistics made scheduling a breeze and keeping accurate records so simple. It also was great from a safety standpoint!

"Excellent Tool for any organization in need of volunteers"

What do you like best?

The simplistic ease of access with scheduling.

I wish there was a mobile app or a way to utilize the software offline

"Great for large and small Volunteer Programs "

What do you like best?

A lot of the built in functions meet very basic requirements for running a volunteer program. There is no need to get add ons or additional items built to work with the software.

What do you dislike?

The reporting mechanism is clunky and does not always work as intuitively as I would have liked.

"Volgistics needs to update"

What do you like best?

It adds assignments and organizes pretty well. You can add a ton of information which is helpful. You can also separate by certain events, which is nice.

What do you dislike?

It's pretty outdated. It feels like software that hasn't been updated in the last decade. Could be more user friendly and efficient to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It's easy enough to track volunteers, but it's difficult with the 100 volunteer limit. Not sure if that's for everyone, or just the account my organization has, but it's difficult to constantly need to update and remove "old" volunteers.

"Functional, but not the most attractive"

What do you like best?

Volgistics provides quite a few functions but looks like it was designed in the 1980s.

What do you dislike?

The format is very outdated. It's difficult to toggle between screens or look outside of the calendar format.

"All your volunteering logistic needs!"

What do you like best?

It's easy to customize to fit your needs, has built-in reports, easy for not only the staff to use but the volunteers as well, and that we can send emails and text using Volgistics.

What do you dislike?

Though it has great features, there are free alternatives that work for us.

We use it with our volunteer program for our students and if we have any special events we need volunteers for. It saves us time between coordinating with everyone and sending out reminders as need.

"Basic programing"

What do you like best?

It does allow you to keep a variety of information on your volunteers.

What do you dislike?

It is very basic and not always user friendly. Needs a lot of updating in the programing and how things interface. It reminds me of working with Windows 95

"Good product for volunteer managment. Wish there were live support."

What do you like best?

Large database available for volunteer management needs. Can have multiple users. Vicnet is useful for allowing volunteers to track their own hours.

What do you dislike?

There is no live support via telephone or even chat. All communication is done via email. No training offered.

"Ok but not great"

What do you like best?

It's pretty simple to use - simple functions. Ability to tag and email tagged group is nice.

What do you dislike?

The fact that it is really limited is difficult. The inability to currently make offices paperless by not offering a place to upload documents is frustrating.
