"Look more professional with your graphs! "

What do you like best?

yEd graph editor is a very essential tools to draw your own block diagrams and graphs. As a computer science personnel, I personally use different block diagram and flow chart to explain different algorithm. yEd provides easy customized blocks to draw your block diagrams. You can also add different logos such as user, computer, workstations, etc. easily in yEd. It is a very useful software for drawing and building scientific figures. Another best thing of this product is that it is completely open source and free.

What do you dislike?

The overall experience with yEd is very satisfactory. One small problem that one might face is that, sometimes the line graphs seems broken. Also this only supports the image files (not .eps and .pdf).

Recommendations to others considering the product

The overall assessment of this product is good. But as a research professional, I want to add some recommendation for this product. First of all, while writing peer-reviewed scientific papers, it is recommended to use .pdf or .eps file to maintain the resolution. yEd can find it useful to add these file extensions. Also, yEd should add importing option to import different pictures in the system. Another good way to improve this software to add customized drawing option where users can draw their own preferred figures and shapes with eas.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main purpose of using yEd is to draw different flow charts and block diagrams for research purpose. I also use yEd for figures which is used in peer-reviewed scientific publications.

"Too useful"

What do you like best?

You can make diagrams, you can often organize the information and get your point through ways that the text alone can not. Good graphics editor and Ed is an easy-to-use tool, it is a tool that allows you to create diagrams, flow charts, and many other visual representations of processes and relationships.

What do you dislike?

It is quite a sophisticated program and new users have to spend some time to get acquainted with it, but the reward - endless graphic possibilities - is well worth it.

Es un programa bastante sofisticado y los nuevos usuarios que tenga que pasar algún tiempo para familiarizarse con él, pero la recompensa - un sin fin de posibilidades gráficas - bien vale la pena.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make corrections adapted to new users who start using the interface, since loyal users are lost due to the time it takes to adapt to the software.

Realizar correcciones adaptadas a los nuevos usuarios que empiezan a usar la interfaz, ya que se pierden usuarios fidelizados por el tiempo que conlleva adaptarse al software.

"Easy to use diagram, flow chart creator"

What do you like best?

It's very easy to use and has a clean familiar interface, so if you have used other programs like photoshop or illustrator you would find it easy to navigate and use.

You are not stuck with standard looking diagrams, you can customize most of the features and create lots of visual variations to them so you can create your diagrams with very specific details and visual needs.

You can also drag and drop image files into the projects so you can use them as parts of your diagrams which can be huge and detailed as you need since you can zoom in and out without apparent restrictions.

It has quite a lot of features than it appear for a free application.

What do you dislike?

So far maybe the lack of tutorials, but being a simple application you might not need much information to use it, but it would be nice to have.

I would also like to see a few more style choices for fonts and effects customization.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a great tool to create diagrams with a high level of customization.

If you are a game developer, this is a great tool to preview or establish the interactions of your games in pre-production.

You can also use it to analyze other game flows and learn from them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm using it to visualize interactions, key inventory item and npcs placements and scene structures and portal directions for video games (quick prototyping or mockups).

Using yEd has helped me create and preview the flow of the games without using paper, its easier to keep track of and implement, move or remove items, scenes, portals and npcs and it's better to manage instead of paper.

"Free Diagramming Tool That Will Get The Job Done"

What do you like best?

Its free over Visio and will make graphs. Seriously that is the best thing about it. My workstation didn't have Visio and I needed to make some flow charts. Quick download and it works just fine. Has all the basics.

What do you dislike?

UI can be overwhelming at first and (subjectively) ugly. You can tell its a situation where if it isn't broke they don't want to fix it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would not choose if over Visio if both were given to me free, however yEd is free and Visio is not so you take what you can get.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Making flow charts and graphs can be done relativly easily. You just drag and drop the shapes you want and connect the lines. Exporting is pretty easy as well so you can create an image or PDF file to print and hand out for a meeting.

"Valuable Tool- easy to lean"

What do you like best?

It is an intuitive configuration and it does not take too long to get the hang of. The snap feature, connecting different nodes is an especially useful feature, which means you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the snap feature, or linking different nodes can be a bit cumbersome, especially if you are trying to flow multiple nodes to the same box.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take it one step at a time. Start simple, then play around with the advanced functions.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Helps me visualize workflow, map out processes. I think visually, so it's a great tool to think and sort out whatever is swirling in my head, before i forget it!

"A great free graph tool"

What do you like best?

Yed provides good graphing for free. I has a good starting base of shapes and connects the shapes well. Grouping is also available.

What do you dislike?

Limited graphing options and tools. Connecting the shapes could also use improvement.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a free solution for a small company, it works great. If you have a larger budget, I would go for another paid product like MS Visio.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating designs and system technical architecture graphs.

"Rather cumbersome interface hiding a gem of a graph software"

What do you like best?

Great ability to import data files and present them as graphs. Efficient engine that rearranges nodes.

Did not find any better free software for making graphs

What do you dislike?

Interface is cumbersome and not very easy to use. The initial learning curve is a bit steep. The help sections could use a little bit more of work in terms of user-friendliness.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are not afraid of initial steep learning curve - this will be your go-to software where graphs are concerned.

Be aware - importing data for large graphs (biggest files of mine were over 20k nodes so far) will require you to launch this software with memory limit expanded (search google)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating algorythms and workflows.

Visualizing imported data.

"Good for maping new processes"

What do you like best?

My team and I are building a new HR process. This program gives us a visual aid for the various parts including recruiting, on boarding, payroll and benefits.

What do you dislike?

I wish it could be a shard working document in Google Drive. Other than that, it works just fine for a free program.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its free and easy to use. Give it a try!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

New process building. The program makes putting concepts on paper a lot easier for visual learners.

"yED on the smart side"

What do you like best?

Ease of creating complex diagrams and workflows.

What do you dislike?

It is, somehow, unusual to use... Odd shortcuts and mouse + keyboard combination.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For some purposes yEd is better than commercial products like MS Visio (business flow diagrams), but I noticed that lack of some usually methods of using UI and tool, or just a different way you need to take for accomplish some tasks, draw me to the LibreOffice Draw.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Business Analysis, Workflow documentation
