What do you like best?

The power of theses differents tools like the new boolean , or the polygon modelisation tools and the new guizmo (4r8 version)

The workflow with different levels of details .

His possibility of customization .

His high level of tweaking in his differents tools .

That is not just a sculpting software but also a good renderer

The large amont of tutorials , tips ,help etc.

What do you dislike?

His complexity for the new users .

It's not perfect for low poly and uv mapping

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a very good software for the sculpting ( in details ) , and his new updates make it much easier and fun to use

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Zbrush , I could create character from scratch for many of our projects . And it's a good showcase for the customer.

"Wonderful and Powerful Sculpting Tool"

What do you like best?

I like that I can sculpt just about anything with almost no polygon limit. It has allowed me to bridge my artistic skills and problem solving into the 3D Printing industry. I currently am a freelance 3d modeler creating sculpted prototypes for clients. I started out in the visual effects side of the industry and use those technical skills everyday when I'm using zbrush. It's my favorite and most reliable program in my arsenal. I've recommended zbrush to 3 friends and they love it.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the lack of layer features compared to Mudbox's layer system. But I realize zbrush is designed for sculpting and some texturing. It's not the best for blending photoreal textures in 3d space like Mari or Mudbox.

Recommendations to others considering the product

In the beginning, it has a bit of a learning curve like Maya does. But it is easier the more you use it and get familiar with the ui as well as all it's essential menus.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm solving ways to create hollowed parts, as well as key and socket fitting 3d prints for easier prototype assembly.

What 3D Modeling solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Best tool for sculpting, but UI needs an overhaul."

What do you like best?

It has a great high poly workflow for sculpting. Every iteration of the software improves upon its abilities. The GoZ workflow is great too, allowing an artist to move assets freely between other applications and ZBrush. The whole sculpting process feels very intuitive while working. Any skilled artist can quickly iterate and create concepts with ease.

What do you dislike?

The UI is very dated- It has a steep learning curve, but can be overcome with time and experience. The steep learning curve of the UI makes it difficult to teach. The texturing workflow could use some updates, other programs like Mari do a much better job. The program automatically sets itself to fullscreen mode which might be annoying for multi-taskers. Its also hard to move the the program from window to window because you can't grab the title bar and move it without restoring the window down first.

Recommendations to others considering the product

ZBrush's concepts are easy to learn once you've overcome the UI. The software continues to improve every year with many new features... just no UI improvements. Once you buy the software you get free upgrades for life which is awesome.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Zbrush makes sculpting high quality assets very easy once you learn the program. I use it most for character concepings, you can take a sketch and turn it into a 3D model very quickly with some experience. We can also create final character models and textures with high production value as well.

"The best sculpt software"

What do you like best?

The simplicity, versatility and the infinity web resources. Also the integration with other 3D softwares.

What do you dislike?

The think that i dislike is the render enginebut you can solve it with other softwares. One of the best complementary softwares is Keyshot

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is much easier than other softwares. All the features are great, including the organic and symetric tools. Also, yo can integrate third plugins, textures, tools, subtools, just the best.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Zbrush you can create more realistic models. The displacement map technique, allows you reduce the amount of polygons, crucial in the 3D industry.

"The best software on the market for 3D Sculpting."

What do you like best?

Custom brushes creation and the extend amount of possibilities combining the alpha feature. It also has the ZRemesher and Dynamesh features that other 3D programs does not bring.

What do you dislike?

It can definitely be very daunting to use at first and very difficult for beginners to learn so many features all at once.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have patience with topology and read a lot about topology and subdivisions and how they work in zbrush before trying to dive in to the program directly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The sculpting part is way better than many other programs that have the same features. Making it more accurate for realism, and more high end results and also how subtools and layers work.

"Brush is the Sculpting application"

What do you like best?

Whilst ZBrush does have a habit of making the reviewer feel like an untalented idiot, there is no getting round the fact that for 3D object creation there is no application which even comes close to the versatility that ZBrush offers, while Mudbox may come close, and in many ways s easier to use. The refinement in ZBrush and the amazing new toolsets which Pixologic keep on adding (for free) mean that ZBrush is unequalled in the market as a connecting tool, This has become especially true with the latest couple of releases which have added a robust polygon modelling toolset and tight integration with the Keyshot Render application which means that for certain kinds of 3D work, ZBrush is the only application that you will ever need

What do you dislike?

ZBrush offers a unique way of working, the problem is that is in many ways TOO Unique, while the new toolsets have got much more intuitive, you either love or hate ZBrush's UI and if you hate it don't expect it change anytime soon. ZBrush's price has started to head upwards, but as the application has never had a cost to upgrade that is understandable. A lot of Brush for many tasks is potentially superfluous and new workflows don't always replace old ways of doing things, and Pixologic isn't very good at getting reid of the old from their application

Recommendations to others considering the product

the best trick to leaning Zbrush is to treat is an analogue toolset in a digital environment and to try and not get too lost in the application and concentrate on a small selection of tools which will help you get the most out of this amazing application

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Any kind of bespoke 3D sculpting challenge, character creation adding extra details into modelling. Any kind of concept or rapid volume development

"Complete 3D modeling package"

What do you like best?

What I like the most about Zbrush is the complete set of modeling tools it has, It is the perfect tool for complex organic modeling, you can create almost anything you have in mind, you can easily create a mesh and UV cordinates from your models and with the click of a few buttons you can even export accurate normal and displacement maps, saving you a lot of time.

What do you dislike?

I think some features need an upgrade, like the UV mapping tools, in general UV mapping tools are easy to use, but there is not the possibility to edit and tweak UV coordinates, and when I work with several subtools it gets a bit complicated to pack all of the subtools in just one UV map.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend Zbrush to anyone in the CG industry, because it allows artists to create almost anything, It really is a complete 3d Modeling package, with all the tools needed for this task, and Pixologic is always doing a great job in every update, even creating new workflows for the CG industry, Zbrush did revolutionized the 3D industry with its powerful features and intuitive workflows, and I'm pretty sure they will keep on doing that for a long time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I work creating and modeling 3d characters for animation, I found out that Zbrush is the best tool that exists out there for this, It really is a software created for this task, and it's complete set of tools allows the artist to create almost anything, I find Zbrush really intuitive.

"One of the most coplete software of 3D modeling"

What do you like best?

In past years, do hard surface character was not made in ZBrush to do this i preffer Maya or 3DMax instead of ZBrush to make armor or other accessories it was hard to get nice edge flow with extraction but whit the new Zbrush version all this change.

One interesting thing to note is that the preview you get isn't just a simple overlay, it is doing a live projection, so spec works like spec, bump like bump etc. The live projection is pixel accurate too, if you zoom the model before painting you'll see the pixels you've painted at the correct resolution, ditto with resizing textures before projecting.

What do you dislike?

Nothing specific, but Zbrush for game texturing isn't that convincing for me. I know that there is other software that make more easyli to do this procces, and it feels outdated. I think Mari is the way to go with texturing.

Zbrush for sculpting, Topogun for retopology, Mari for texturing. For normal maps I don't know what's the standard.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Excellent in any modeling aspect, both organic and structural.

Great program to do all dinamic 3D modeling an graphics.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have good experiences with ZBrush to work whit 3D printers.

Zbrush be able to export your 3D Model in STL and VRML file formats, opening you to the world of 3D Printing.

Who has never dreamed about having your virtual sculpting in “real” 3D, standing on your desk? Now it’s possible.

"Very good!"

What do you like best?

almost everything about it. the price, free upgrades, great community, free tutorials, Zbrush summit, etc.

What do you dislike?

Maybe the ui could use could be a little better, but as it is it works ok.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zbrush is In my opinion the most creative and best software for sculpting. It takes some practise, but when you learn it, it's a very quick program, where you don't have to think very much, you just sculpt. It's great with hard surface as well, especially with their new polygon modelling tool zmodeller.

Some other features as decimation master is great too. I use it every time i need some heavy polygon models to be lighter, as long as i don't need it to be animated. it's possible to keep the uv's of the model and i can barely see a difference between my high poly and low poly model. The community 'zbrush central' is amazing as well, I learn something new every time i go there. Also Zbrush have their own free video tutorials. Their tutorials are ranged from beginner to advanced which makes it very easy to learn some new stuff. If you are stuck, you can shift-hover over all the tools in the program and it will give you a text of how to use it. I have never had any troubles with their customer service either.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

it has some great tools to get a lower polycount and I use it for everything with organic shapes

"Review of a ZBrush user with only modelling experience"

What do you like best?

Best side of the ZBrush is simply dynamesh. Leaving all the restraining rules behind at first and being able to shape the form freely, gives the feeling of real sculpting experience; it makes the ZBrush clearly number one. Starting with low and gradually taking it to higher resolution while dynamesh is active, lets the artists to exploit themselves with ease. Also possibilities driven by zsphere are great. I mostly use for the first rough silhouette, posing and topology editing. Plus, having multiple subdivisions under the same mesh is a great approach for the possible rigging and texturing stages. Having the maps never been so easy. I like both sculpting and alpha brushes; my favorite one is default clay build up brush. I love its sketchy feel.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the Zbrush's inherit and indirect way of saving and my biggest problem with Zbrush is at their interface. It is a bit complicated; why the menus are looking stacked so much, why they are slippery and why the tabs are messy and uncategorized? Although you get used to it after a while, I would rather to see the related ones together instead putting them in an alphabetical order.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have always been at the development stage and ZBrush was a big help, even for my 2D works. Whenever I needed a character design, after the first draft the second stage has been occupied by modeling in ZBrush. In 3D world, the other sofware consume time and effort with vertexes, quads, extrusion even hasn't started anything yet and I feel limited while dealing with them. But in ZBrush, it communicates and simply let's you flow to have the form first. You can consider about the rest later. This is the proper workflow unlike the others.

"3d modelling as it always should be"

What do you like best?

-Work on very complex geometry without killing performance

-ZRemesher : Fastest way to retopo high poly geometry

-Dynamesh : Sketch fast ideas like real clay

-Hard Surface modelling: Brushes for all purposes

What do you dislike?

- His baking engine. The fact that you need to project one surface to another sometimes is very annoying and can produce ugly results

- Lack of Painting tools (layer painting for example).

Recommendations to others considering the product

- Develop your Artistic skills! Forget about technical issues regarding software usage, those stuff will always change, bt the art foundation wont.

- There are 2 similar softwares: 3d coat and Mudbox. I believe Zbrush is superior generally speaking, but those 2 might have some cool features worth taking a look before choosing your weapon of choice.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

- The best way to keep an artistic point of view of the production pipeline.

- There are some goals that are just impossible to achieve in any other manner.

"The only program that does sculpting right."

What do you like best?

Zbrush is an amazing sculpting tool for 3d designers and artists. If you have no idea what topology is and how to keep it clean then Zbrush is probably best for you. You can have endless fun creating and messing with forms and shapes without having to simultaneously think about the technical side of 3d.

What do you dislike?

The one big flaw to Zbrush is it's UI. I don't understand the organization. They put keys you use all the time in places you cant get at and also have no hotkeys to get at them. I understand that a lot of it is build thinking about a Wacom tablet but at the same time it could be so much simpler to use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's easily the best sculpting program I have used. I've played with many of the industry modeling tools and Zbrush is by far the most useful when it comes to roughing out creative ideas.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This will solve your every day sculpting needs for print, texturing, game assets, and animation.

"Can be frustrating, but worth it for organic sculpting"

What do you like best?

I like the sculpting tools the best because there are a wide variety of brushes that can help you achieve certain effects and it's great for organic sculpting as opposed to more hard-surface oriented modeling like Maya. The Dynamesh and Zremesher tools are also extremely helpful for merging forms and quickly retopologizing. Subtools are also great for grouping objects together or sculpting pieces separately.

What do you dislike?

If you know what you are doing, you can do many fantastic things with Zbrush. However, it can be very difficult to learn for beginners because there are many menus, tools, and plugins to figure out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely look up tutorials and explore the interface first to get the hang of it. Also start modeling with lower subdivisions first before adding more polys to really get the shape right.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Zbrush has helped me sculpt organic models that I would have trouble making in other programs. It also gives me another option for UVs, textures, and rendering.

"Amazing"

What do you like best?

The way that this program lets you sculpt feels so traditional and I am in love with it. I look forward to making new sculptures and constantly look for new things to learn in the program so that I might make my work even better. I also appreciate the ability to add custom content!

What do you dislike?

When you open this program for the first time, you will be totally lost. It is like an alien interface and the controls are so similar to maya, yet not the same. Your hand has to relearn its habits and then again once you switch back to maya. I wish there was a way to change this in preferences!

Recommendations to others considering the product

For a brand new user, I suggest attending a class or a well-chosen online tutorial. There seems to be a certain order to learning this program that works much better than others. For example, learn the difference for save as and save document first as this is imperative! This can easily trip you up. Also, do not let this progoram intimidate you in any way. Yes it is initially confusing, however do not give up. Zbrush is the difference between just a model and a masterpiece. It has changed my life as a modeler forever! No sappy-ness intended.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Whenever I need to make a character more realistic, I rely on Zbrush. Normal maps have fixed so many modeling problems that my team and I have had. With them, more detail is allowed in renders and gives your work a much more professional look.

"3D Modeling Revolution"

What do you like best?

No doubt my feature of choice is the "pixol" technology which allows me to add a phenomenal amount of details in a model with unparalleled performance. The fluidity and organic modeling workflow also stands out as a creative sculpting beast. Under 3H of sculpting you can prototype ideas almost to a final stage of refinement.

What do you dislike?

I really don´t like the light system. Coming from a look development background I miss the freedom of positioning precise lights in the scene. I wish I could have a better light and camera workflow that I could see in the 3D space my sources and cameras, that would be wonderful.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Really spend some time at the zclassroom. It really helps clarify the basic workflows inside zBrush and will help you get up to speed to explore the app. Also watch the webinars promoted by Pixologic and check out how the senior modelers do it, it is insightful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Excellent for Sculpting"

What do you like best?

I like being able to work with dense meshes and create things without having to worry about technically limitations. ZBrush really is a digital sculpting program because of that. The new ZModelers have made it 100% more exciting to work in ZBrush. I use quite a bit of Zbrush's features such as: Transpose for posing models and making fixes on multiple subtools at once; Zspheres for blocking out models, posing models and retopo for dense models; polypaint for painting my models and/or setting a base texture paint to work on; BPR rendering for my 3D illustrations; and 3D Print Exporter for exporting models that are 3D print ready.

What do you dislike?

Not having subtool groups. It makes organization cumbersome. Also, having to initialize a project to delete subtools is a bit of a pain. I'd like to see a version where I could delete subtools within a project without having to initialize.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Solid program and Pixologic is very responsive when it comes to support.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've used ZBrush at a work a few times to create illustrations for marketing art. I love working with it in regards to 3D Illustration because I can experiment with different perspectives, views, and lighting combinations without having to redraw an illustration over again.

"Best Program for Organic Modeling"

What do you like best?

Z-Brush is an excellent program for organic modeling. It is very intuitive and easy to use compared to programs like Maya and Blender, and can be used for almost everything other than animation. It provides excellent tools for 3D printing, retopologizing and texturing. Using a drawing tablet makes for a very natural sculpting experience, without any of the complicated vertex-by-vertex movements of other programs designed solely for low-poly modeling.

What do you dislike?

I does crash with some regularity. It has an autosave feature though, so even when it does crash, not much work is lost.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try Sculptris. It's free, made by the same company as Z-Brush, and offers the same easy to use sculpting, though without any of the advanced features and many of the tools that Z-Brush offers.

The latest major update of Z-Brush also adds low-poly hard surface modeling. I don't typically make hard surface/ non-organic models, but from what I have tried of it, it is very straight forward and easy to learn.

Less important but also a nice feature- You can change all of the colors on the interface, and set up custom UI layouts, so the tools you use most are readily available..

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I deal largely with 3D printing sculptures, and Z-brush's sizing, shelling and decimation tools make it very easy to prepare sculptures for print.

"Esoteric but Excellent product."

What do you like best?

It is absolutely superb at high-res modeling, especially organic modeling. It's fun, expressive, and is like digital clay. It plays well with other 3D programs as well (Maya, Cinema4d, etc). I have been using the program for 2 years as a student/professional, and there are still more good qualities that I find month-to-month. Handles high-poly count very well.

What do you dislike?

The UI is a nightmare. The learning curve is incredible. I've introduced the programs to others and the rage they get trying to do basic tasks is palpable. It takes a lot of handholding and reminding in the beginning to get people going.

Also, the color texturing is not very good. It's hard to paint hi-rez textures.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Learn another 3d program first, like Maya or Cinema 4D. Using Zbrush before any other 3D program is going to confuse and anger you. However, once you get the hang of the basics, then you can learn how to model 'better' in Zbrush.

Also, have a good computer. This is not a low-powered program. You get extra mileage out of the program (ie, polycount) if your memory and other hardware is better.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I model, typically either for cartoon animation or for scientific modeling.

"Zbrush is definitely the best software for high poly mesh sculpting, this tool is essential."

What do you like best?

Dynamesh, you can freely sculpt your model without worrying about subdivision deformations, you can adjust the resolution for more details and the model can be remeshed when you decide it's the right time.

Zremesh is one of the best options for retopology, you can get a base mesh that you can adjust later according to your needs.

Keyshot integration for product rendering or turntables.

The Quicksave button is always a good way to save your progress if you are going to make a critical change in your project.

What do you dislike?

The time it takes to do some processes and sometimes it does not show the amount of progress. Some times zremesh gives you weird topology with spirals instead of loops.

Lights can be difficult to customize at first you need to select the correct material.

Sometimes there are many options that you dont know what they are made for.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You do not need to know the whole pipeline at first to use the software, you can make very cool artworks and you will learn ahead the steps you need to follow for the animation pipeline.

Try to know the difference between subtools, tools, projects and files, they are all part of the process.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Zbrush helps me with fast highpoly modeling and retopology, you can make very cool details for your models and then create normal maps for low poly models.

"the most awesome software for sculpting"

What do you like best?

the incredible easy that zbrush make to model anything that you can imagine inside your head

What do you dislike?

almost anything but if I have to write something I´ll say that can´t do animation

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would definitely recommend to use zbrush to anyone in the business of 3D sculpting, it give to you a experience of freedom than non of the other softwares can give to you.

Zbrush will let you to be an artist, and make you art without restraint. it give to you so much features to make easy your job, and day after day his company and team of production is updating the software more and more.

It is really easy to use, sometimes a little tricky if you come from others softwares like maya o 3d studio max which are more technical, but ones you adapt to zbrush you can´t let it go, i promise.

"Easy sculpt!"

What do you like best?

The pure basics of actually sculpting. There are a wide range of brushes to use and you can even import your custom alpha brushes which is so great!. I picked up sculpting to a strong entry level standard in 2-3 weeks, so easy and adaptable for sculpting details.

What do you dislike?

Navigation. The keyboard keys and mouse usage was pretty daft!, Maya, 3DS Max navigation, brilliant. Z-brush, no good. I had to use a small rotation tool to navigate around my model. I didn't really go to war with learning Z-brush much so I didn't have the chance to learn sub tool handling etc. I will be back with a bang though because I would love to learn Z-brush to an almost expert standard like I have with 3DS and Maya.

Recommendations to others considering the product

There's probably a fair bit to learn. But its all worth it, it will improve skills and experience so much and maybe open up much more job opportunities.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It simply gave me easily created details to extract for my 3D models, details I wouldn't have got else where. I had to work on Z-brush for my details with no cutting corners.

"Becomes an artist with Zbrush"

What do you like best?

Zbrush potential whenever I see is unlimited. I think it's one of the programs where you can let out your inner artist in the easiest way. You can shape everything that is in your imagination and then play with thousands of textures that you can create. I'm still learning every day more and always surprises me. It is a Top program

What do you dislike?

Honestly I have not found many things that I do not like this program, but it could be that perhaps can improve a little material creation system and increase their quality of final render

Recommendations to others considering the product

As a final point I think this is a program that can also help as I prefer that model with a solid figure to create multiple meshes. It really is something that I really like. Creating materials is really spectacular !! It is a program that you must have as a working tool

"For the artist, this is an intuitive application to use offering tools to make design process fluid."

What do you like best?

Sculpting at reasonably high resolutions with the use of Dynamesh. An artist can choose freeform approach to modeling/sculpting while consistently maintaining the mesh integrity, more specially the meshes 'topology.'

Essentially, this aid the creative process when exploring ideas or experimenting.

What do you dislike?

The absence of multiple viewports like any other traditional 3D applications. This would be a great feature to aid navigation when viewing multiple angles or positions. Tricky user interface for a beginner. This takes some getting use to; exciting examples from the Transpose and Scale tools

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software is recommended to the designer with a truly artistic flair.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"The Ultimate Sculpting Software"

What do you like best?

Zbrush is hands-down the most advanced modeling/sculpting software on the market. It is designed in such a way that it can handle millions upon millions of polys even on bad laptops (like mine), it is intuitive to learn, and within a few days you can be making things you're really proud of.

What do you dislike?

Like all my problems with software, I'd have to say it's its UI design. Not intuitive, and a lot of key functionalities are hidden within submenus I won't even know about unless I stumble across it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Do the trial, and then really decide if it's something you'll find essential-- it's an expensive program!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use zbrush for my daily job when making models for clients. I've realized its a great concept/iteration tool, as you can make fully fleshed out models relatively quickly.

"Professional sculpting"

What do you like best?

ZBrush allow you to have a deep control over your mesh. You can follow different methods to achieve your result and, since I use the software for creating game asset, I enjoy the possibility to move and export from hi-poly to low-poly mesh.

Moreover, you can combine meshes and overall, after you get to know the software, it allow for a flexible workflow. Also, while working you can help your sculpting by grouping and masking mesh parts.

What do you dislike?

I disliked the software at the beginning, because I did not enjoy the User Interface and at a first glance the software seems very complex.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

ZBrush mainly help me to detail hi-poly mesh, that then I need to bake to extract details information for the low-poly version.

"Fun and Powerful"

What do you like best?

Lots of fun. You can make and do almost anything that you can imagine. There are very few limitations when i comes to 3D sculpting with ZBrush

What do you dislike?

The learning curve was steep! You need to take the time to learn the interface and features and stick with it. The interface is pretty unique compared to other 3D design software and is easy to forget. Once you know how to control it, it's a lot of fun.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zbrush is the best tool to sculpt characters, environment to use as an asset for a movie, videogame, animated serie, or even to print toys, is the best. The Dynamesh tool, remesh and goz are the perfect combo to use with any other software such 3dsmax, Maya, Modo, cinema 4d, softimage (you can find the goz in the zbrush central forums).

The community of this software is amazing, so, if you have any problem you can go to zbrushcentral.com and get an amazing feedback or help from other users.

What do you dislike?

More polymodeling tools, and texturing for low poly.

"3Dimensional sketching tool"

What do you like best?

I like the freedom the software grants in order to model complex geometries and apply details and patterns to it. It is basically a software to sculpt. I also appreciate the good connectivity/relation Zbrush has with other softwares like Maya;

What do you dislike?

I miss the precision you get in Rhinoceros or Sketchup. It is really difficult understand the scale of the objects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a perfect tool for sketching on 3d and give form to the ideas you have on mind. It is a good tool to have a first contect with your design.

"Zbrush allowed me to flesh out my ideas more quickly"

What do you like best?

What I like the best about this program is how it feels to sculpt and model. This program allows you to quickly flesh out ideas or concepts into models. This program is a must when creating organic objects weather for movies or games.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that it can often crash on you(Always remember to save!). It can also be scary for first time users, the UI can be a little overwhelming for beginners.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I can now create organic shapes with ease. I can add very intricate detail with the help of brushes and alphas.

"Zbrush is my favourite tool for doing high-poly models with lots of details and texture painting."

What do you like best?

The best features of Zbrush are the sculpting metod (which is very intuitive and powerful, especially for doing organic models) and an easy way to paint textures. As the software name indicates, you are going to use a set of fully costumizable brushes to sculpt and paint directly on your models with an excellent performance. Also, the meta-balls are a very fast way to sculpt skeletons or a base to begin your models.

What do you dislike?

If you are going to do hard-surface models Zbrush is not your best option, because it is focused on detailed and organic modeling (although you can do hard-surface modeling as well). Also, the render engine is not very powerful in comparision with other render engines (V-Ray or Corona), so you are probably going to do them with other software.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zbrush is a great option to start with 3D modeling because it is very intuitive. It is also the best software for character designs and organic modelling. So if you are planning to do architectural desing or product manufacturing there are other options that will fit better your requirements.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I mainly use Zbrush for painting textures and adding details to my models, because it is fastest and the results are better than doing it with other software (like 3ds Max).

"The Ultimate Digital Sculpting Solution"

What do you like best?

Zbrush is hands down the best 3D sculpting solution on the market. It's 2.5D approach allows even average pc's to handle sculpting millions of polygons without slowdown. It has a vast array of sculpting tools and multiple ways to get the job done. Zspheres are a cool way to create a base model without the need of another 3D package, and Zbrush makes posing models a breeze. In addition to just using it for modeling high-res models or creating normal maps for game use, you can also use it to texture your models by painting directly onto the model. It also has built-in materials and and a rendering solution for still images. It's an excellent addition to any 3d package, and quite capable as a standalone.

What do you dislike?

The interface, tools, and controls aren't super intuitive and can be quite unique requiring a higher learning curve and more time to get started with it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Higher than average learning curve, but once you get past the learning curve there really is no better solution for digital sculpting and detailing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Zbrush for creating normal maps for use in various game-engines and with Zbrush's sculpting tools it makes the process very fast and efficient.

"Automotive Modelling in Zbrush"

What do you like best?

I enjoyed how easy it was to quickly create complex 3D shapes and surfaces in this software. Zbrush is great for trying out different ideas, applying textures. I am also fond of how painless it is to make major proportion changes to a model at any stage of development. I can quickly skew, warp, or resize selected areas, or even the entire model.

I also found the transparent shader useful for differentiating between layers, as it was a good representation of glass on my vehicle.

What do you dislike?

I found it incredibly hard to create smooth, automotive quality surfaces in this program. It is obviously not the intended use at the moment, however it would be a great area to improve. The user interface was also rather hard to become accustomed with, why on earth are all the taskbars / options listed alphabetically, instead of the more logical manner in which most other programs are laid out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend this software to any users in the entertainment industry. I believe it is still a few years away from becoming more mainstream in the automotive world.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used Zbrush to create a fifth scale model of my car design. I loved that in Zbrush no matter what was created, I would be able to easily 3D print my design as it was a solid object from start to finish. whereas patching tiny holes in surfaces in programs such as Alias has always been incredibly frustrating and time consuming.

I found Zbrush to also be much quicker than traditional 3D modeling software, though less precise, at changing certain areas, or proportions of my design. I spent much more of my time cleaning up a surface, rather than creating it, before I could properly evaluate it.

"Zbrush is a Fun TIme"

What do you like best?

Zbrush is an incredibly powerful tool that allows you all kind of freedom to create some excellent and truly amazing works of art for use in a variety of purposes. Zbrush doesn't hold your hand through any of it, and gives you complete control over every last aspect of the work you create, and if you're savvy enough you can create anything you can imagine.

What do you dislike?

Zbrush is incredibly intimidating. There are buttons and menus and stuff everywhere all in your face all the time. With time, you will come to learn what all of these do and you'll come to wonder how you ever used Zbrush without them, but for someone just starting out it can be an incredibly intimidating experience and one which may prove too frustrating to pursue.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend using Zbrush, almost every game company worth their salt uses it in their games. There simply is no alternative when it comes to creating visually sophisticated and complex game models and characters. You can use it to create just about anything in 3D and for that reason I recommend that anyone wanting to get into high poly modeling become very familiar with it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As I mentioned, starting out was a real task. It took me several years before I became comfortable using the program and the only thing that can help that is work work work. After enough dedication and effort is put in, you will be able to create anything you desire, but only if you're willing to drop hours and hours of your daily life to spend creating.

"Made modeling organic shapes and painting textures a breeze!"

What do you like best?

Zbrush is definitely geared towards making 3D modeling less of a task and letting the user create a model that feels more organic. Having the free range to mold a 3D object like clay opens up far more opportunities for the user to create a model closer to the original concept without having to make sacrifices in the details. Zbrush also allows the user to paint on the sculpted object allowing beautiful texture work that is seamless.

What do you dislike?

UI can be a bit of a mess sometimes and becomes hard to find tools unless you familiarize yourself before using the program. Getting 3D models and maps out of Zbrush sometimes can be a pain, and I usually have to try it several times before it comes out correctly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for a more 'hands on' feel to your 3D modeling programs, then I would consider using Zbrush. It can be a bit intimidating at first, like most programs, but once you familiarize yourself with a few tools you like, the program is fun to use as well as useful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Zbrush has allowed me to not have to make compromises with my work. I don't have to review my original design and ask myself what details might be best left out if traditional box modeling won't allow me to get the shape I'm after without having to put in hours of work that might not even turn out.

Zbrush in the end saves me a bunch of time.

"Extremely fun software with no limitations"

What do you like best?

I love the ability to sculpt organically with no slowdown. There is no other software that allows that kind of freedom. The ability to work in layers makes complex projects easy to deal with. The retopology tools are excellent.

What do you dislike?

Hard surface modeling has come a long way, but it could still be improved. I would one day like to consider ZBrush my go to software to create an architectural scene from scratch.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take plenty of online tutorials and learn from the experts. Get comfortable with all the tools this software has to offer. If you can think it, it can be done in this software. If it can't be done and other people need it, ZBrush will likely include the feature in a later software updates. The software updates are always useful and not just an annual release like other 3D software companies.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I create architectural visualization renderings and I use ZBrush to make objects look photo real. Objects such as furniture and fabrics can be taken to the next level in ZBrush because it is so much easier to manipulate the polygons.

"Best tool for hi-poly sculpting"

What do you like best?

Zbrush is a very flexible tool that offers a lot of possibilities for making hi-poly models. Starting from creating hi-res details with brushes and alphas to making complex shapes with boolean operations, instancing and projections. You can also use vertex-painting for texturing, z-spheres for quick 3d sketching and making retopology right in Zbrush. It has tons of useful features that can speed up your workflow a lot.

What do you dislike?

UI design is traditionally a weak point of Zbrush. You'll probably want to customize your interface and rely more on hotkeys. Zbrush appears to be intuitive on basic level, but it has a lot of hidden features that you can hardly guess.

Better functionality for texturing would be useful.

And also there are not so many convenient ways to work with your UV layout inside Zbrush.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zbrush has become a standard for the industry and I can hardly imagine a better alternative for creating high-quality 3d models.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Zbrush mainly for making high resolution models and baking details back to lo-poly meshes.

"Great tool and easy to create 3D characters"

What do you like best?

Fast and simple to use, doesn't require a very heavy computer, it's, similar to sculpting in real life and painting models couldn't be easier.

The view throw interface and spotlight, allows you to have references and textures fast and handy. Different methods of modeling and workflow depending if you want a high res or low poly model, the same applies for hard surface or organic modeling. For example shadow box, zmodeler brush and panel loops are a good and fast way to create hard surface concepts, but if characters design is what you are looking for; then zspheres, zscketch and dynamesh are very nice tools to get your ideas flowing fast. I have and old MacBook Pro from 2008 and I can go to subdivision 6 no problem, manipulating millions of polygons and the computer doesn't crash. I think is the closest to digital painting in Photoshop but for 3D assets. Also Zbrush works seamless with other applications importing and exporting assets into Maya, keyshot, Photoshop and many more, with just one click. Zbrush has different methods and the most amazing algorithms for retopology that I have experienced, and all of them very easy to use and fast, giving you control of every polygon or doing it automatic, depending on your need.

What do you dislike?

The material editor is a little confusing for a new user, but it compensates with the mat cap and mat library for downloading materials if you don't want to make your own.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it out, you will love it, and check pixologic website for quick tutorials.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating 3D assets ready for animation and games is fast and simple and you can focus on the design instead on technical issues. The workflow is much faster and there is no need for external applications to complete the assets and the texture maps, like Normal, specular, diffuse, bumb maps and many more are very simple to create and export.

"zBrush"

What do you like best?

I really like the simulation of using real clay to push and pull a single basic object in zBrush into something organic. With all the new features such as dynamesh its easy to sculpt an entire organic figure from a basic sphere with details and all.

What do you dislike?

The software is great but the interface is a little frightening as well as the required horse power for your computer in order to sustain the required level of subdivision to hold the detail you want.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get it if you do a lot of organic or hard surface modeling, once learned it will make your usual daunting tasks much easier.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

Zbrush works with advanced tools for sculpting your 3D meshes and get the details you need to achieve that wow factor you need in your work.

It's performance is exceptional. Even when working with more than 6 millions of polygons, the 3D space won't be slowed down easily, allowing me to keep working fast and with no stress.

What do you dislike?

"Zbrush is the best 3d Sculpting Software on the market. "

What do you like best?

In terms of 3d sculpting, there is no other software package that offers more flexibility and options than Zbrush. Pixologic is constantly updating their software package to ass new and better features that allow artists to create evermore complex and intricate models for games and movies. When it comes to asset creation, you are really only limited by your imagination and knowledge of Zbrush.

What do you dislike?

This is an age-old argument on behalf of artists everywhere when it comes to Zbrush's ease of use: it's a program that was designed by programmers for artists. In that way, there are ways that Pixologic could improve their interface and usability to be more intuitive and streamlined with other asset-creation packages. It can be a little painstaking switching between Zbrush and other packages in terms of controls and interface.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am always pushing myself to learn more about Zbrush and to try new and exciting things to make the most incredible assets I can for my company. Again, it is really only a limitation of my knowledge of the package since it is so incredibly vast in scope.

"ZBrush is still the industry sculpting standard"

What do you like best?

Organic creativity doesn't flow any better in sculpting than in ZBrush. It's workflow and tools are still the industry standard, and are being improved on every day.

What do you dislike?

The biggest complaint is the UI and navigation, especially for new users. It's not the most intuitive and definitely has a learning curve. I do wish more resources were put into revamping it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take time to learn it, get familiar with the plugins and extensions (like Subtool master and Keyshot), work more on your natural creative flow than the functions of the program since they go hand in hand.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Everything from conceptualizing a 3D work, to completing high end sculpts for production are made easier with ZBrush. "Fantastic Digital Application that Emulates Real Life Sculpting"

What do you like best?

The innovative use of "pixols" allows for an inventive use of this program of essentially sculpting whatever you intend to create within 3D design. It works well with other 3D design applications to import and fine-tune creations, with textures and improved graphical details. It has a good amount of features to really allow the user to create whatever concept they have in mind. The ability to paint on a surface without first applying a texture mask is great. If you have an intensive computer it can render models at massively high polygon counts, which is great even if it's not always applicable to average usage. The integration with most of the main applications (including the common Maya and 3ds Max) allows a lot of freedom.

What do you dislike?

Not much to dislike with my current level of interaction with this application. Maybe better importing and interactivity with more 3rd party applications.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is great for sculpting and fully realizing your ideas. It allows your ideas to run wild, it brings 3D modeling to a whole other level.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've taken 3D models from 3ds Max and completely created entirely new concepts and brought more life into the designs by adding texture and bump maps that fully realize the model's more intricate designs. It goes from a storyboard concept phase to the almost the final structure of the imagined model using this application to sculpt the creations.

"Zbrush, never stop learning"

What do you like best?

ZBrush has a massive community of artists and while I've used it to for a few years, there is still so much under the hood that I have yet to learn. Furthermore, artists share techniques, tutorials, brushes and alphas so often that I haven't come across a studio that isn't stockpiling ZBrush resources for projects.

The software is powerful but the community is fantastic.

What do you dislike?

The legend states that ZBrush began as one thing and, over time, eventually became what it is today; but went about that approach by adding features instead of adapting to the new direction. What that looks like is an interface full of hidden menus that are very daunting to beginners. Best way to begin is to watch beginners video and take lots of notes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

ZBrush's main competition is Mudbox; a competent software for sure and being an Autodesk product, allows a more intuitive control scheme. Unfortunately is doesn't have anything like the ZBrush community and as such, I'd recommend diving straight in to ZBrush and learning to swim.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Personally, I use ZBrush for almost all of my organics, tileable textures and damage to hard surface models. The sculpting allows me precise control over placement and depth of my model much more than running a photo through nDo would.

"Zbrush is the best tool to express your ideas"

What do you like best?

How very customizable it is so you can adapt your work space to your needs.

How similar it is to traditional sculpting, letting you be more creative instead of focusing on more technical things.

You can quickly do a speed sculpt of an idea or work on detailing a model using various great tools like alphas and brushes you can customize and do them yourself for any special need you may have.

Tools like Zremesher and Dynamesh are great to help organize your geometry.

The recent Keyshot Plugin for rendering is amazing.

What do you dislike?

Some tools still need better upgrades, like the Transposing tool, which need to be used very carefully so we don't damage much of our model. The original rendering system that comes with it could have some more and better options. The Fibermesh is also something I still think it's a little bit hard to handle.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Zbrush for creating characters and some environments for illustrations or concept art and also use it for modeling for 3D printing.

"God Damn Zbrush"

What do you like best?

Just the feel of the sculpting, many competing software have tried to copy this by adding additional features or bluffed the feel but none have came close to Zbrush. There's something magic about pen sculpting in Zbursh.

What do you dislike?

The UI, its super not friendly for a new person but even for someone experienced like me it still gets messy. Occasionally you'll want to use something you haven't in some time and it can takes minutes to find it which is ridiculous.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Just do it, staying with anything else after using Zbrush is the digital version of Stockholm syndrome.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

IT development and pipeline design

"zBrush"

What do you like best?

The interface is pretty easy to navigate. Being able to change the colour and gradient of the canvas really helps when you need a slap export quickly. Built in brushes are solid and Support is fantastic.

What do you dislike?

Even though its easy to navigate, the default interface is horrible to look at. There's not much wrong with the software itself. Texturing could be more straightforward.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Its a very solid standalone peice of software, easy to get up and running in. Saves a lot of time.
