"Zuora implementation went smoothly, functionality meets our needs"

What do you like best?

I was extremely impressed with the Zuora team who lead our implementation. They were experienced, knowledgable, patient and kind. Excellent follow-through. It's been over 3 months since we've been live with Zuora for our billing. It's definitely a step up from our prior home-grown solution which involved integrating Stripe & other tools. With Zuora, we have greater visibility into the status of our billing, and greater functionality to price our products and services, employ discounting, and bill our customers. The API is powerful. The permissioning works well, and there are plenty of custom fields.

What do you dislike?

Zuora has a very robust database / data model and functionality to meet our needs. However, the user interface leaves a little to be desired. The API is powerful and useful, however, I find myself wishing for more powerful in-app editing capabilities - such as the ability to bulk edit accounts. We wish the integration with the Stripe gateway had more functionality such as auto card updater and ability to void credit card transactions. Not sure if this is a Stripe API limitation or not.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ensure you have allocated an internal resource (and plenty of time) to the implementation, especially if you are migrating customer data.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Since implementing Zuora, our business now visibility into our outstanding balance (in collections). We now have a clear source of truth for our Product Offering (Product Catalog). We've gained more trust in our account and billing data, and we no longer need to rely on our senior engineers to report on billing-related metrics for our business. A big win!

"Zuora "

What do you like best?

Pretty straight forward application and user interface. Works well with basic setups. For basic subscriptions the system works well.

What do you dislike?

No flexibility for custom schedules. Cannot handle multiple currencies for a single client. Have to create too many work-arounds to get billing completed. Out of the box compadibility with other products is only one way. Need to attach other products to ensure proper functionality. Lack of system controls and history for changes and updates.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to test all scenarios that will be utilized with this Product. Also test instance where you would need to investigate a certain invoice or payment across systems, ie. SalesForce to Zuora or Zuora to the ERP, especially if there is a change from the original quote.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Subscription billing. Simple process and for the most part it does work well with basic subscriptions. It works with majority of our subscriptions however it causes too many issues with the remainig part of our business.

"Zuora is enabling us to scale as a growing start-up"

What do you like best?

The ability to quickly pass through large amounts of usage data for our clients is allowing us to perform billing in a time-effective manner. Once usage data is loaded, a few clicks and all of the invoices for our client base can be generated. Invoices are clean and detailed which help us maintain a good customer experience even with our somewhat complex billing model. The reporting is extremely helpful in calculating end of month commissions, recognizing and deferring revenue, and overall bookkeeping. The quoting tool that Zuora has integrated with Salesforce is also a huge plus. Our sales team can now easily create nice looking quotes by selecting various product / rate plans through the Zuora / Salesforce Quoting tool. The quotes are then immediately sent over to our clients and the subscription data synced to Zuora so that the client is ready to be billed. Prior to this process, it was a hassle manually inputting billing information into our legacy invoicing platform, which also offered no room to manage term dates / billing dates or any other subscription related data.

What do you dislike?

Be cautious of dates and how they can impact billing. I.e. if a customer signs up in the middle of the month, will their billing be prorated? There are many different dates that can be tracked in Zuora which make the tool complex, but also sophisticated. Additionally, the on-boarding and learning curve is extensive and steep - the training and implementation requires a lot of time and attention.. for a while it felt like my sole job was Zuora. However, working with Zuora's Global Services team that handles the implementation made it all worth it. The team at Zuora want to see you succeed and knowing I was in good hands, with people who were ready to help, made me all that more motivated in making sure I could implement Zuora to the best of it's capability at our company. I'm still not getting it all right / some subscriptions are more complicated than others, but I'm confident that with Zuora's support we will get to a point where invoicing is done seamlessly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We signed onto Zuora without much standardization to our billing process, subscription management, or even a formalized product catalog. We were rapidly bringing new customers on at many different pricing schedules and payment terms. Now with Zuora, there is clear insight into the different rate plans customers are subscribed to, as well as their MRR and other reporting measures.

"Wonderfully Integrates with salesforce"

What do you like best?

The integration with salesforce is very robust and allowed our organization to fit zuora to our specific needs. The implementation team did a wonderful job of setting us up for success and even though we had unique requirements they offered workable solutions.

What do you dislike?

It takes training across your organization, which is expected, but there are quite a few places where users can mess up billing. I suggest sending each user through the Zuora university which I hear they are upgrading soon.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Having your own developers is a great idea since the API connection is very powerful, you can customize it to almost any degree.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are a subscription business but did not have good visibility into our billing. Now we have great reporting and can quickly build reports in salesforce. Especially useful is being able to track discounts our sales reps are giving and the impact on revenue.

"Sophisticated billing platform to scale growing Saas businesses"

What do you like best?

Zuora provides my business and I the flexibility we need to make pricing and product changes on the fly. The object architecture allows us to customize and configure the platform the way we run our business.

What do you dislike?

The complexity is a blessing and a curse. The learning curve is a bit steep. But once you're in, the possibilities are endless. I compare it to a CRM. A good CRM isn't easy to set up. However, once you understand the ins and outs and configure it to meet your needs, you're able to move at a much faster pace.

Recommendations to others considering the product

As mentioned above, Zuora is complex to set up. However, once you're up and running, you're able to accelerate your business and not waste engineering resource on billing (and instead use those resources on your business). If you have a really simple billing / business model, then Zuora isn't for you. However, if you have a somewhat complex business model, or if you want flexibility to grow and adapt with you business, Zuora is a fantastic fit.

We launched self-serve usage based pricing for our software offering. Additionally, we have an Enterprise Sales team that sells "unlimited" access to our products. Zuora allows us to customize their system to support both pricing models simultaneously.

"Rough Start with Zuora"

What do you like best?

One thing that's great is how it can integrate with all of our software. It can integrate with Salesforce and our admin software.

What do you dislike?

It seems outdated. There are also many clicks I have to make to accomplish a small task. Of all the software I have used for work, it is easily the one that took the most training. I still don't have it figured out a few months in.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I haven't seen any updates to the look or any improvements for making it more user friendly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Trying to make our data and tracking of what customers are paying for simpler, but we haven't really gotten that out of it quite yet. Hopeful we will once it is fully implemented.

"Great tool for simplifying your billing / invoicing needs"

What do you like best?

Zuora makes billing and invoicing simple - especially for sales-assisted businesses. It helps to create a unified flow around all products and services that you may be selling.

What do you dislike?

Implementing Zuora is not a plug-n-play experience. Having a technical team in place is a must to get this right.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zuora is a powerful platform - you need to make sure you define your business processes ahead of time; otherwise, the implementation may not be easy or effective to solve your business challenges. You also need to be comfortable with changing your internal business processes to make the overall solution more effective (technology + process).

We wanted to simplify our billing and invoicing experience and ensure we had a unified flow across our products. We were able to create a single flow for all of our products and renewals.

"Falling in love with Zuora...."

What do you like best?

I love the clean, simple design of the Zuora UI. From the first time I logged in, I felt like I was home. It has been simple to learn and simple to teach my team.

What do you dislike?

Reporting in Zuora is not the most user friendly to pick up. Knowing which data sources will yield the right results is not always easy and reporting can be cumbersome at times. Also, not being able to view full results without downloading can slow the process down as well.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to have a solid product catalog before you begin! It is the backbone of everything!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Zuora has integrated well with our existing Salesforce platform. Also, in our old sytem, we had "orphan payments" that could not be matched up to customers. Zuora's subscription/invoicing capabilities have solved that!

"Great New Invoicing Platform"

What do you like best?

The easy ability to change pricing and subscriptions by the click of a single button. I also like the syncing capability between Salesforce and Zuora making it very seamless. The ability to be able to pull up multiple reports from data pulled in is also great.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that at some points of the software there are too many options. It can be a little overwhelming at times unless you really familarize yourself with the software and all of the options available.

Currently, alot of our invoicing is very manual so moving to Zuora we were able to automate alot of the tedious processes in regards to end of month invoicing. This saves alot of time as our customers are able to get their invoices in a timely fashion.

"Seamless Migration, Great Features "

What do you like best?

I have been impressed by product catalog. I would call it a smart product catalog with future amendments etc. Also UI is great and corresponding API is flawless. We have been able to connect our middle tier/microservices with zuora api without a hitch.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was a way to make email more dynamic. Such as if zuora is sending an email to user for failed payments - maybe we can insert upcoing new content that user might be interested in - thus user will quickly update the payments.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Successfull payments. We are tyring to maximize our successfull payments. We are also trying to keep churn in check.

We also wanted to expand our product catalog to offer more products for promos etc.

"Easy integration"

What do you like best?

integration into salesforce was easy once we got the rules and limitations down.

setting roles and what each user role is allowed to perform certain tasks is helpful where many eyes can view the billing data.

confidential, no full credit card number is displayed.

What do you dislike?

whiel their reporting has come a long way in the last 5 years, the interface in which to create reports is not very pleasing and you need to hunt for things. the 'example' display is not accurate at all, and for some reason mine is set to spanish instead of english.

for a first step into a billing system integrated with crm this is a valuable tool.

i recommend paying the extra money had having Zuora do the integration for you.

adding zuora to our business has allowed us to have a customer facing store where they can shop for services for their subscriptions. using api calls into salesforce, zuora has allowed us to give our customers a more personalized shop experience with easy billing.

"Sounded Perfect, till it Wasn't."

What do you like best?

SalesForce Integration, Billing Tools, Reports

What do you dislike?

The lack of support from Zuora in general. Poor job at follow through and after launch bugs.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Zuora is all sales and no follow through. They can sell the hell out of this product, but the programming process is a nightmare. Be prepared to get billed tons of hours for incomplete work. As soon as they are done with the billing hours, poof, they are gone! Some insight for anyone who needs a subscription based fulfillment needs....Hire smart people to customize Salesforce and use Salesforce as your main source and data center. Avoid these types of companies because it will just be one headache after another.

Hire in-house staff with Salesforece and business knowledge. At that point, create salesforce as your source for all data, including billing, fulfillment, renewals, ect

"A year-long nightmare"

What do you like best?

Zoura offers a lot of flexibility around how products and "rate plans" can be set up.

What do you dislike?

Where to begin.

The implementation process was awful. We were forced to use a 3rd party consulting group for implementation. They knew very little about the product and were more interested in tracking hours and building spreadsheets than doing any work. After our prepaid hours (about $300/hr) with them ran out, we realized that we would be better off on our own since the only real help we got was from an internal contact at Zoura.

After a while we gave up on the full integration, setting for a very manual billing process. Our CX manager at Zuora wasn't able to offer any help or best practices for us in our industry (B2B SaaS). On more than one occasion they said to us "I'm not sure, nether of my other customers do that".

After a year we decided that we needed to move to another platform. We left behind blood, sweat, tears, and a whole lot of wasted money. Perhaps we were doomed from the beginning due to an inept implementation team and the software is actually great. Hard to say.

We were hoping to integrate our billing system with our CRM and product to automate billing and reporting.

"Automating revenue recognition is now easy"

What do you like best?

The Zuora platform takes a lot of the guesswork out of what revenue to recognize and when, simply by entering the rules in each product and allowing the product to carry the rules.

What do you dislike?

There is surprisingly little customization in places one would expect there to be ample ability to customize. I'm hoping new updates solve some of these issues.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you have a process engineer involved, who understands your current CPQ so you can more easily migrate products.

Revenue recognition rules in subscription billing--saves time for our analysts so they can work on models and prediction rather than reconciliation.

"Zuora Review"

What do you like best?

Zuora is a fantastic billing system that easily integrates with Salesforce.com. The overall ease of use, configuration for recurring / one-time billing charges, and easy hook-up into Salesforce.com makes Zuora an easy choice for many companies in the software / SaaS space.

What do you dislike?

The API for Zuora is a bit confusing for the average user / developer, and it takes time to become acclimated to their data model. Also, the pricing for Sandbox environments is somewhat unreasonable, but overall that's about the only downside I can think of for Zuora.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend companies looking for a new billing system to give Zuora a shot; they make excellent software and have been a great vendor to work with.

Zuora helps resolve the typical issues tied to subscription billing. We've experimented with many different pricing models over the years, and generally speaking Zuora has been able to accomodate them all (one time pricing, recurring, billing based on credits, discounting / promotions, etc.). It's greatly expedited the typical process for setting up customer subscriptions.

"Repeatedly Positive Experience"

What do you like best?

Zuora is flexible and extensive and often times has a solution in place or a solution engineer can quickly offer a solution to help scale or stabilize the business

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the Zuora interface can be cludgy or confusing - especially when there are very complex deals being entered into the interface.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are in the process of migrating all of our products from one subscription platform to Zuora. Our consumer products, since they are simple and straight-forward, are i nthe process of being completed. We will continue to move our mid-market applications and services into Zuora by Q4 2019.

"Zuora: Payment Solution for All"

What do you like best?

I enjoy the ability to review the platform through several search filters. The software is very user friendly and allows you to learn every day the more time you spend in the platform.

What do you dislike?

I find that the biggest struggle with my company today is linking Zuora to our ACH gateway.

Great software for smaller companies looking to grow and expand.

A few business problems we have solved with Zuora are combining multiple softwares into one. We have now rid of two other softwares including Auth.net and are working on getting rid of one more once we can pair our ACH gateway to Zuora.

"Wokring with Zuora during Saas Transformation"

What do you like best?

The excellent level of support from every arm of the organization. From sales to implementation, to support and customer success management, it feels like Zuora values its customers and does not shy away from tough questions. In addition, the system is intuitive and easy to manage.

What do you dislike?

With a rapidly growing company like Zuora, sometimes necessary features seem far away from production. For example, we are expanding our international offerings and some features (such as translated product names, VAT fields, etc.) are either not yet developed, or in limited beta. Despite this, I will give Zuora positive feedback for allowing companies easy access to betas if the features are needed for business operation.

Additionally, its REST API is lacking, and even simple functions have to be done via SOAP. This leads to less responsive and flexible e-commerce and and custom integrations.

Reports and reporting are less than adequate. However, Zuora is investing a tremendous amount of money and resources into fixing this, and it seems that the new solution, Z-Spotlight, will address most of these issues.

Be very clear in your business requirements and make sure that Zuora has the features you expect and need.

We are transforming our traditional sales offerings into a complex SaaS portfolio, helping our customers take advantage of only what they need through different tiers of service made possible through Zuora's system of products and rate plans. In addition, the system has the flexibility to handles multiple rate plans and products on a subscription, so we can up-sell support or license add on, so a customer can adjust their level of engagement at any time.

"Zuora = Favorite Invoicing System "

What do you like best?

I love that Zuora allows us to put clients into batches, this allows for easier invoicing. We can put clients who pay via credit into a credit card batch, clients who pay external into a external batch. Zuora makes invoicing quick and easy! Zuora can send automated email notifications to clients and they recently implemented dunning emails which has been very helpful. Zuora has excellent support that is ready to assist anytime, they are very quick to respond to any issues or questions that might come up.

What do you dislike?

Zuora needs to improve reporting features. Currently the reports are data dumps and take a while to get the information you really need/want. I would like to see improvements in the reporting features that Zuora offers. Currently Zuora allows customers to create their own invoice templates, this is a great feature, however I wish making the templates were easier and more streamlined.

Zuora is great at listening to their user’s feedback and working to implement suggested improvements.

We save so much time using Zuora! It is so quick and easy to navigate, it is really user friendly, easy to learn, easy to navigate.

"Incredible rating billing engine"

What do you like best?

It allows you to view your customer's usage and rated amount with discounts, free tier and overage in real time. Great use case for upselling customers and notifying them if they past their contractual rate so they are not surprised of large invoices.

What do you dislike?

No support yet for large scale usage models and requires usage to be aggregated.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SaaS usage based billing for customers that have prepaid amounts, free tiers and overage billings. The platform makes it easy to implement billing rules for usage based customers and future changes to rules and pricing.

"Billing System Cut Over"

What do you like best?

Robust product with a lot of capability, and which aligns well with our business processes and needs

What do you dislike?

That the "out of the can" reports do not work well enough to be useful without expert knowledge and/or additional cost to get set up.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Spend extra effort to try and identify exact needs and reports, and make sure the exact reports you need are part of your deal. DO not rely on canned reports, every business and process flow is different and things need to be tweaked, its almost a certainty.

"Great Product"

What do you like best?

Really appreciate the efficiencies Zuora offers. As a team that touches billing and accounting, we're huge fans of Zuora billing and are in the process of implementing Zuora Rev Pro. There are some features that are missing, but Zuora does a good job keeping its customers informed on what's in the pipeline and what they're working on improving.

What do you dislike?

The support process could be a little more seamless - I find it difficult sometimes to get insightful responses about issues I'm having with the product.

"Zuora Review"

What do you like best?

The integration between Salesforce and Zuora is great. I recommend zuora for those only in the subscription services.

What do you dislike?

One-time sales are difficult in zuora. It requires you to create an evergreen subscription. Late payments are an additional product. Cancelling large bill runs requires custom api code.

"Very effective cloud based solution targeted for Enterprise customers "

What do you like best?

We moved to Zuora from an on-prem solution that was cumbersome to use, complex to understand and very inflexible to the new requirements.

The best features of Zuora are:

1. Easy to crrate a custom workflow with custom product families, rate plans and subscriptions

2. Easy integration with Salesforce

3. Easy access to customer details, subscriptions and invoices

4. Insightful reporting and analytics

5. Sandbox

What do you dislike?

1. Zuora is inflexible when it comes to highly custom requirements - they suggest to use their professional services which makes their entire offering expensive

2. The support is good but it takes longer to resolve an issue

Recommendations to others considering the product

1. Improve support. It's not best use of customer's time to read through the knowledge base all the time to come up with the solution.

2. Minimize the dependency on the professional services

"Simple system to use, however ...."

What do you like best?

Can handle a lot of bill runs (we have a lot of small value customers).

Good at quickly changing prices

Easy for sales team to build quotes

Locks down month end reporting and recognizes revenue automatically.

We have Zuora as our Nth billing systems, so the exposure to it is relatively weak. However, it is built for recurring billing and invoicing, which makes our lives easier by being able to batch the invoices together.

What do you dislike?

The reporting part is both a blessing and a curse. I like the fact that we can drill down on reporting, but I dislike that there are no standard reports.. There are many fields that you can pull into a report but it is almost overwhelming and some fields are redundant. The billing can be frustrating when the system does not align with the revenue schedule.

In addition, it would be nice to be able to bill based on subscriber activity rather than simply flat rates.

Definitely consider a trial version before you jump in.

By implementing Zuora we have minimized many manual processes that our company had been accustomed to. We had used a previous system which was not designed to handle hosting/subscriptions to harbor them. Zuora has allowed us to isolate our subscription business for the better.

"Great platform for Scaling Your Business"

What do you like best?

Coming from legacy billing systems, Zuora increased our ability to scale tremendously. We've optimized our processes and are able to automate in a way we never could before (automated bill/payment runs, upload transaction functionality) .

What do you dislike?

While Zuora is growing quickly, just as we are, the customer support we've received (post go-live) could be improved. We've already had a number of CSMs, and we aren't sure where to turn when we have questions.

Integration for automated invoicing and credit card payments, removing the need for manual processing.

"Powerful tool, but not necessarily "plug and play""

What do you like best?

Out of the box, Zuora offers a large feature set with a lot of functionality. Based on your specific requirements, you may or may not be able to use it out of the box -- or more likely, you may need to make customizations to the software, process, or your way of doing business.

What do you dislike?

The training and technical documentation are better than most software providers I've used before; however, there are too many things that are not well-explained (or even explained a lot), that can result in frustration in implementation.

"SaaS Software"

What do you like best?

Zuora is one of the easiest billing and AR software's that I have ever used. From an AR perspective, it's simple to navigate around and processing a payment is really simple to do.

What do you dislike?

The A/R reports are in an Excel format and you have to filter the spreadsheet in order to get what you need. Also, you can't backdate an aging report, so it makes it difficult for pulling old reports for auditors. As suggestions, buy the accounting connector. It's worth it.

"Simple to use"

What do you like best?

I'm not on the finance team, so I mainly use Zuora to look up my clients' subscriptions and invoices. Its very easy to quickly find any information I'm looking for. I can also edit minor details that may have been input incorrectly when creating the subscription (which I do in Salesforce).

What do you dislike?

I'm not as heavy a user as someone on, say, the billing team would be. So, for my needs, there isn't really anything I would change.

If you want your Account Managers to have easy insight into outstanding invoices, payment history, and subscription status, this is a great product.

It helps me easily track client payments, invoices, and subscriptions. I can also easily pull invoices to resend to clients.

"Good basic product with growing add-ons"

What do you like best?

The Workflow (Collections) add-on has helped with collections automation, allowing our specilists to spend more time interfacing with customers and solving their issues and less time compsoing and sending emails

Making chages to subscriptions is combersome because we sell subscriptions as well as phsyical products.

If you have a simple and basic pricing plan for your subscriptions you will have little problem implementing. Added complexity brings added difficulty.

What do you like best?

I love the continual innovation that is delivered to my clients. The application is every evolving and keeping its customers in mind. I love the new CPQ functionality and it is very user friendly.

What do you dislike?

The sales reps dont stay in touch with its clients. When it is time to upgrade clients are often confused on how they can improve their environment. Clients really need more affordable help and training for upgrading their environments.

What do you like best?

Is very customizable and allowed us to configure the platform to support all of our unique subscription rate plans.

The portal user interface can be a bit slow and there is a fair learning curve for new customer support reps to learn the system.

What do you like best?

I like the capability of customizing each account to fit each customer and not having to worry about information changing. Also like the reporting and payment Lockbox. Very easy to use and saves a lot of time.

What do you dislike?

I did not like that you did not have the flexibilty to move payments and create credit or debit memos but you are offering that now.

What i like best about Zuora is the fact that it is pretty intuitive and it streamlined a lot of our billing and payment processes

What do you dislike?

I dislike some of the reports in Zuora - we are having to customize a lot of reports. And there is also not a general search option. You have to go to each section in order to search for transactions

Business problems that we are having are just setting everything up and determining new business processes that we need. The benefits are still becoming recognized as we learn the system. A lot of our manual AR processes are becoming more efficient.

I like that it is extremely customizable. You can create anything you like in terms of billing. It also helps you understand how things work on the backend of billing/invoicing.

What do you like best?

Zuora allows ease of managing subscriptions by providing integrated function to multiple users across the company. It is essentially streamlined communication from sales to operations to billing to revenue recognition.

What do you dislike?

As a new user, I find that changes are difficult. For every change, every area that uses the tool is impacted. So while communication across areas is helpful, it also means more areas that are impacted by changes.

The initial move to Zuora eliminated a tedious process of spreadsheets and tracking billing through multiple systems. The integration with salesforce and CPQ will be the ultimate in coordination of sales opportunities and invoicing.

What do you like best?

A fairly turnkey solution, which seamlessly integrates with our existing web store solution. Strong SalesForce (SFDC) integration, PCI Compliance, with API access to most data points. A Plug and Play setup with very flexible structures.

What do you dislike?

Documentation not always up to date. Lag time to get responses from Customer Service, and responses not always helpful (Customer Service acts as an inside sales group, up-selling other products rather than fixing the ones already purchased.... although this has gotten better). Not all data points available in SFDC. Growing pains with quote process meant we had to invent workflows for non credit-card based transactions/quotes/invoices. . Price. The fact that the term is either on a monthly or annualized basis. Complicated to build out solutions such as "14 months for the price of 12" or "1st month free, auto convert to annual subscription". Pro-rating anomalies between cancelled charges and pro-rated charges, especially surrounding leap year. The inability to merge customer accounts, in a mature product.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure all of your requirements are specified up front. Do not be afraid to ask questions, and make no assumptions regarding terminology. If something is not explained/clarified, follow-up. Understand which features are "must haves" and "like to haves" because concessions will be necessary to maintain budget and timeline.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The biggest benefits are consistency in our data exchange/reporting, and invisible/seamless credit card processing. Subscription Management was our biggest challenge. We had multiple entitlement types, and our internal teams were not always working from the same customer lists. This has been solved. We know who our customers are, and continue to be. The benefit has been a consistent view of our customers from Sales, Marketing, and Operations (no small feat). Deployment of discounts and other incentives has also become easier, with the Zuora model.

What do you like best?

"Zuora has helped us streamline our billing and sales quoting process tremendously"

What do you like best?

The integration with Salesforce is great. We can see all our critical subscription metrics using standard reporting. The quoting module has helped us build a robust process for Sales and provided us with a ton of visibility on how well our pricing/discounting strategies are working.

What do you dislike?

The revenue recognition features in the first iterations of the product were not robust enough however there has been a lot of innovation in this area and it's improved significantly.

Our old home grown billing engine took well over a week to process a monthly invoice run. Zuora has helped us reduce that to several hours. Honestly, I can't say there is any aspect of Zuora that I dislike. They provide a fantasitc experience across all lines of their business.

"Awesome billing system"

What do you like best?

Integration with Salesforce. Great tool for creating subscriptions and products. It has payment gateways for credit cards which can be integrated with Salesforce as well. We have done a lot of implementation with Zuora and Salesforce.

What do you dislike?

Maybe just a few incompatibilities with Salesforce but these are not a big deal.

"Project Team for implementation @ multiple companies"

What do you like best?

My first experience with Zuora was good, They were friendly, responsive, open to our ideas, and let us openly discuss our needs v what was available. The second time I worked with Zuora, they had taken a large number of our changes and customizations and integrated them into their product, showing me they really listen to their customers. Having a company take action and then change their product based on their customers, led to me feeling like I was heard and understood, and that is what I like best. That,a dn the fact that subscription management in SF is difficult and Zuora really made our lives easier.

What do you dislike?

The second time I worked with them they were less responsive, and had a number of bugs, due to what I felt was a lack of testing and need to push fast and hard, rather than focus on quality with changes.

Make sure they understand your business needs before going forward, not just that they can repeat them back to you

Don't jump on the release day one

Add time to the estimated implementation, both of my experiences have been multiple weeks over.

Subscription management. Being at a number of High Tech SaaS companies, I have learned that subscription tracking is one of the most difficult parts of the process. When to make renewals, how to make renews, price books, discounts, approvals, it is so complicated and despite best efforts there are pieces that don't quite fit the puzzle. Working with a company that has experience, although no solution is perfect, really helps simplify and streamline the process. Another benefit is realizing that it isn't' necessary to reinvent the wheel, there are plenty of unique companies just like ours

"Assisted with implementation and oversaw administrative activitites during adoption period"

What do you like best?

The ease of subscription activation and schedule creation. The daily revenue calculations are automated and require no manual touch. It is also nice that the subscriptions interface with all of the booking information allowing us a quick validation prior to activation. The turnaround time to invoice post activation is immediate.

What do you dislike?

The reporting is a bit difficult to work with. There are many fields that you can pull into a report but it is almost overwhelming and some fields are redundant. The billing can be frustrating when the system does not align with the revenue schedule.

By implementing Zuora we have minimized many manual processes that our company had been accustomed to. We had used a previous system which was not designed to handle hosting/subscriptions to harbor them. Zuora has allowed us to isolate our subscription business for the better.

What do you like best?

I have used Zuora at 2 companies now, its a great tool for products with a subscription business model. I like the simplicity of the implementation, the level of customisation you can achieve.

Not a huge amount, it would be nice to be able to bill based on subscriber activity rather than simply flat rates.

Open a trial and you wont be disappointed, it should feature in your evaluation.

We use Zuora as the sign up subscription part of our iPaaS and I have also used Zuora at a Marketing Automation company for the same purpose. What do you like best?

I like that it has a nice and clean user interface. Lots of reps have been complimenting on how easy it is to navigate and self explanatory.

What do you dislike?

There was no ability to make/change multiple quotes at a time. I also disliked that Zuora did not use the latest SFDC contact release where you're able to associate a single contact to multiple accounts causing duplicate contacts to be created if the single contact owned multiple businesses.

"Needs some work for companies that sell through partners"

What do you like best?

Integration between salesforce and Zuora is good. Nice to have the subscription information get populated and tied to the Accounts. Integration with Oracle was not bad either. It's built to handle all the calculations of a subscription model, and does so quite well.

What do you dislike?

We sell through partners, and unfortunately, this is not ideal for that. We had to do a lot of customization to the zuora for Salesforce in order for it to work within our business model, but even with the customization, we face constant challenges. The lack of integration between Salesforce products line items and Zuora Quote lines has proven to be cumbersome and we had to create additional code to copy perform this functionality.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're selling direct, then this is a great product. However, if you're selling through partners, then be prepared to do some customization.

Now that we have an offering which is in the Cloud, we needed to provide billing as a subscription service. It was important that we integrate with Salesforce since our trial information and all customer information resided there. The biggest challenge, however, was the fact that we sell through partners, and we found that Zuora was much better suited for selling direct. If we were selling direct, then it would be near perfect for us, however, the fact that we utilize the Salesforce partner portal, we had to add quite a bit of additional code to support this needed requirement.

"Not your normal billing system"

What do you like best?

I enjoy the ease of use and ability to adjust the recurring billing.

What do you dislike?

Unable to process flat payment amounts with remainder to a credit card. CBA application is difficult to follow through on customers with multiple subscriptions. Support takes too long to get back on issues. We have a couple of customers that will not print invoices due to volume of subscriptions.

I like how accurate and automatic the proration function is when it comes to subscription billing. I know that when the desired dates are in place my bill will be generated accurately.

The payment rules can be restrictive if payments if payment was applied incorrectly and cannot be easily moved if needed. Many of the cash application is done manually and amendments must be made .

The ability to see who has done one within an account; from creating an amendment to billing the customer, everything is transparent.

"A good cloud based billing & subscription service"

What do you like best?

Scalable and flexible, and enables teams to work together well. The linked entities are easy to navigate and it supports multiple windows well.

What do you dislike?

Limited data export can make linking different data set difficult. The search is good for records, but could be better. The breadcrumbs to go back to the previous screen could be better implemented and more obvious.

"Great for our subscription-based SaaS business!"

What do you like best?

Zuora is user friendly and has a great user interface. It's great for managing subscriptions and integrates seamlessly with Salesforce quotes.

What do you dislike?

Reporting is ok, but the fact that various fields reside in various data sources and cannot be combined is a hinderance. Also, subscription amendments can only be done one-by-one, which will hopefully change with their new Zuora Orders tool.

What do you like best?

I love the simplicity of the Billing integration with Salesforce. It is easy to interpret and easy for the end user to understand the customer's billing.

The sync between Zuora and Salesforce sometimes requires two or three tries but overall it integrates well.

Feature and functionality... taxation was a breeze, and I also like the fact that their SE team guided me through the product.

There isn't much to dislike, but I would say an area of improvement is definitely in laying out a more clear roadmap of what features will be solidly offering in the next six months.

Overall controls, bill & payment run functionality.

What do you dislike?

Getting support for plugin services like Avalara when I have issues is much more difficult than it should be. Modifying subscriptions for changes is very time consuming. Reporting can often prove difficult.

One reason I like Zuora is that the subscriptions are easily managed through amendments. The Zuora community also provides great resources for any type of information I may need.

Reporting is Easy and super user friendly. Zuora is perfect for any subscription business. The product is ever evolving too.

What do you like best?

The ability to manage subscriptions is extremely helpful.

What do you dislike?

I love Zuora but dislike the cost. I would love it if Zuora had other pricing models that fit SMB's.

We moved away from a legacy system which was very inflexible in terms of its rate plans and charges. We now are able to add new rate plans and pricing structures in significantly less time.
