What I like most about inkscape is that it has the tools you need to get virtually anything that you may need to do for vector work done. They may not always work like other software packages, but if you understand the basics of using a vector based d software, you can accomplish whatever is needed.
My main gripe is the instability that I've experienced. There are some times when inkscape will just crash. To be fair, it does this less when I use a more powerful system, but it can still happen. Thankfully there's a pretty useful autosave feature that can be enabled.
Just try it out. It's a very full featured software that has allowed me to do commercial work without any initial investment other than taking time to learn the tools.
