XenDesktop is a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) tool that allows users to access virtual desktops from the datacenter and access personalization benefits of VDI to open and run programs that may not otherwise be compatible with their computer. The tool features access to Windows and Linux Hosted-Shared desktops as well as access to Windows and Linux virtual (published) applications. Primarily, XenDesktop is used by remote business professionals. Due to the product’s capabilities and features, employees are able to work remotely and securely with Windows, Linux, web and SaaS applications remotely. Citrix also offers the tool XenApp, which is an application virtualization solution. The difference between XenApp and XenDesktop is minimal. XenDesktop has the same capabilities as XenApp and additionally, the ability to implement a VDI solution.
